It still remains painful.
The past few days.
Nothing had happened, other than a new report saying a few cadets are missing that there doing everything there can to find them. And leading this search was Sargent Anacostia Quartermain second in change of intelligence. Which didn’t help any. Before the wedding, Quartermain had warned Raelle to stay away from Scylla. It one thing to say ‘stay away for her’ it other to made it difficult to see each other. This only made Raelle more, angry about the situation. A reminder of what the army did to her mother, because of her choose in love.
But know she was missing. So, she guests there have their wish of her not seeing Scylla.
The last few days, Abigail has been off training. Trying to push past her grief.
Raelle could see it was just a matter of time before the flood gate would open and she would have no choose but to face her emotions. And Tally was of god knows where. Most probably with her childhood best friend, Glory.
And Raelle was sitting under there tree. Her mind racing a mile a minute. She knows not to worry just like Quinn had taught her over the years. Also, her pop had also taught her but with to disassemble a car engine and fix anything when it comes to cars. Bring a small smile to face.
“there you are”.
With that she looks up following the voice. It was none other Libba Swythe.
“hay, Libba”.
She could tell straight away that something wasn’t right.
“what eating at you”.
“can I ask you something outside that question”.
With that Libba sit down in front of her with a smile. “shot”.
“why don’t you put me in my place, like all the other high Atlantic do”.
Libba thought for a second before relaying, “when we meet, I didn’t know you where an outcross.” She paused realising that she misspoke, “not that I care much about that”.
“ever said you did”.
With a chuckle from both of them Raelle allowed Libba to continue.
“All I know that what those people that was speaking down at you. Like, you were a slave to them. That wasn’t right.”
She places her hand on Raelle hand, “if knowing that your father a civilian, then I would do it again, until my last breath. That want witches do for each other. That want friend to do”.
“I wish you were a part of my unit.”
“bedwetter, giving you trouble.”
“more like, her loss is clouding her judgment. Craven avoiding me, Plus, other things”.
“I don’t what to say to that”.
“not to put my foot in my mouth but why are you here”.
“since you tried to save, Porter. You been distance and I was worried with everything else.”
“I told you after Beltane I was ok, it was more that Scylla was being distance with me”.
“what about yesterday, you said you would join us for dinner but never come. I just saying I’m worried”.
“my unit, wanted some unit unity stuff”.
“that sound like Craven.”
She did say that the real reason was that Abigail want her to heal a fellow witch in the woods. Libba could see her face drop very subtlety.
Libba looked at her questionably, “what else is going on.”
She fully looks away, trying to hold herself together. But failing badly.
“it my mother birthday”. She barely got out.
Without needing more, Libba just pulled Raelle into a side hug.
Since she meant Libba weeks ago. After a long day of training, a few cadets pulled Raelle aside and was beating her up. Saying words that the goddness herself would have been shaken by. Libba had stood up for her making the cadets run of scared.
It took a while for Libba to calm down Raelle once down and got taken there was no going back. Since that day there had grown closer together. Beside talking to Scylla about her family she also told Libba a little as well. Mainly about her father but had said one of two things about her mother death.
There stayed like that for a while before finally Libba noticed the time.
With a heavy sigh, Libba moved a bit make Raelle sit up.
“sorry”.
With that Libba jump up, stretched out her lower back. Before looking down at Raelle. Her eyes clouded with an unmissable sadness.
“don’t say that you my friend have nothing to be sorry for”.
Libba rushed down and pulls Raelle to her feet before Raelle could reject her good well.
“let’s go”.
“where are we going.”
“lunchroom”
“I’m not hungry”.
“I am and you coming with”.
With a sigh knowing that she could get out of it, moving with her. “I’ll come but afterward I’m heading to my dorm room.”
With a smirk, “deal”.
Libba hoping that she could distract her a little.
Lunchtime or any mealtime for that matter. Raelle hated joining her fellow witches. The perfect place for others to stare and just be their “friendly” self’s. She really wasn’t paying attention as Libba grabbed her food and heading of sitting with her unit. Raelle dragging behind and sitting next to her.
Her unit luckily wasn’t there just yet. She could feel herself relax. It not, like she didn’t like her unit it was just complicated. Ok, so there didn’t stick up for her at all. But then she hadn’t done the same. Not like there had been confronted. Only real time she spends with them is in training or though food time. Or that want Tally calls it.
Before the wedding, Scylla would join her, mostly at dinner time. That become her favourites time of the day. She could remember the first time she asked Scylla to join her for dinner. Her southern charm had come out full swing. She can picture her, her little chuckle. The way she dunked her head down a little while flirting. Everything about that her, was amazing.
She could remember the way Scylla looked around the place. Making sure idiots wasn’t around. And kissed her for the first time in public. Before they had made out but in her room after a fight she had with Abigail. on her first week here. Ok, it was more then kissing.
But this moment both of them realised it was more then a charge, it was deeper. She also remembers the sadness that she could talk to her mum about this. Her dad was ok, it wasn’t the same.
Tears started to burr her vision.
It wasn’t until Libba nudged her that she realised she had been daydreaming. About her.
Rubbing the back of her neck, “sorry, what was you saying.” Hoping that she noticed the strain in her voice.
Libba looked at her a little worried, only people that have got close to her could read from her very subtle facial expressions. Libba and Scylla was the only two in the army that could.
Libba herself had very guarded facial expression like Bellweather. Not like she would say that out loud. Their rivalry being very intense.
“Nothing, why don’t you head of. We catch you later, for dinner”.
With a sigh of relief, she said her goodbyes, meanly to Libba. ‘saying she would see her later’ and headed off towards her shared dorm room.
She managed to get back to her dorm without seeing her unit. Not like she disliked them, but she really didn’t want to talk about what she was feeling, extra.
She stripped down to her trouser and top. Removing her boot and jacket.
Finally, alone after her mind wouldn’t shut up. But know she could lay down. Once her head hit the pillow, she could feel her tiredness.
Yes, for the last few days is allowed herself worry. Out of her norm for her. Normally she wouldn’t worry this much. But something about Scylla just made her worry. Fine she knows why. But to trust anyone with this information is her death sentence. Smiling to herself, knowing how she felt and know.
Sleep finally got up with her.
