Wedding plans

They didn't say any words...they shook their hands and Kate felt the same as when those hands were caressing her neck.

“Kate, are you ok?” Wanda asked, looking between them both. 

“OK, are we ready for this?” A blonde woman said. “My name is Aubrey Posen and I’ll be your teacher” She clasped her hands together. “Come on, I want every couple in a straight line in front of me” Aubrey looked at them. “Any problem here?” At that Wanda’s phone rang. 

“Hi, yeah, wait a minute, I can’t hear you…” She moved away. “No, nothing”

“Come on, we don’t have all day,” Aubrey said.

“Kate…you dance with Bel, I really need to take this call outside” Wanda left them there and Aubrey got closer.

“You too dancing together?” Before any of them could utter a word, Wanda screamed from the door.

“They are! And Kate, be careful with Bel’s thumb, she got hurt saving some old lady…”

Kate sent Yelena a glare and Yelena flinched. “Come on, there’s no time” Aubrey pushed them together.

“No no, I can’t…I..” Kate said.

“Yeah…and I well…I have a prior engagement..” Yelena said, and Kate laughed sarcastically. 

“Good choice of words..Bel” This time it was Yelena’s turn to glare.

“What I’m seeing here is fear…and I don’t accept fear in this academy…” Aubrey pushed them back together again. “Now…dance!” Music started playing and every couple danced except them. “No fear, just dance”

Reluctantly, they grabbed each other and started dancing. “Old lady huh?” They moved to the music in sync once more.

“Listen…I can ex…” Kate cut her off.

“You told me your name was Yelena” Kate twirled Yelena around and grabbed her again.

“It is, Wanda calls me by my surname…Belova. It’s a nickname” Kate rolled her eyes.

“I have a better name for you…liar..” Kate growled. 

“Hey, stop that…if you’re thinking…”

“I’m thinking of killing you,” Kate said and they didn’t notice everyone looking at how they danced.

“Listen..the day you had the accident…” Yelena started again.

“What a special day…”

“I was late” 

“How convenient of you” Yelena ignored her and continued talking.

“I was on my way to meet Wanda and our wedding planner…and then you..”

“Surprise”

“What are the odds?” Yelena asked.

“Don’t dance around the issue” Kate said, rolling her eyes.

“I do not know what you mean” The accent was a bit thicker and Kate had to control her legs not to give up.

“You didn’t show up because you don’t want to get married…” Kate pointed out. “ I see it all the time” Yelena scoffed. “If not…tell me…why did you tell your fiancee you saved an old lady?” At that Yelena didn’t have an answer, she gulped. “That’s what I thought…you think you want to get married but you don’t and then you go out looking for whoever you can get”

“You have no idea what you’re talking about Kate Bishop” She had a scowl on her face.

“Then enlighten me…why did you go to the movies with me?” Kate pushed.

“Why did I go to the movies? I like movies, I had a free night and you invited me, yes?”

“I didn’t invite you…Kamala did” Kate shrugged. “But don’t think you can double talk your way out of this..I smell you” another twirl.

“And I smell like cinnamon rolls and mac and cheese” Yelena smirked then.

“What?” Kate asked, confused. They kept on dancing like pros. 

“That is what you said to me before you passed out” Kate tried to control her blush.

“I did not” Yelena nodded.

“You did. And if we are being honest here…the one who is trying to get whoever she can, is you” Yelena fighted back.

“Me? You think I’d…That’s ridiculous! You’re not even pretty” At that Yelena smirked. Kate took her by her back and turned her around.

“Then, why did you ask me to dance with you?” Yelena asked with her back to Kate’s front.

“I didn’t” Kate knew she was lying but she couldn’t help it.

“You did, when we were in the tree,  you said, wanna dance?” Yelena turned around and faced Kate.

“I did not..but even If I did…I’m not the one who’s engaged” Kate accused her.

“It was a dance Kate, it did not mean anything” Kate hold her and push her down without letting go

“If it didn’t…why’d you almost kiss me?” Kate asked and they stood frozen looking at each other.

The music stopped and everyone applauded. They moved apart from each other and didn’t say anything else.

“These two…wow…what a lovely couple. They know what dance is about” Aubrey said and Wanda entered the room again. 

“We need to leave,” Wanda said, smiling at them.

Outside the building Kate was still trying to hold back her emotions while Yelena seemed to give extra attention to Wanda. 

“Your sister called, and of course, I’m not sure how I didn’t think of it before” Wanda grinned. “It’s the place”

“A vineyard? sounds perfect.” Yelena said, hugging Wanda.

“We have a reservation for this weekend. Would it be ok with you?” Yelena nodded.

“Sure, I can get Sonya to cover my Friday, yes” Yelena smiled. “Thanks for all your help Kate, we’ll let you know how it goes”

“What are you talking about?” Wanda chuckled. “She is coming with us”

“I’m coming? / She’s coming?” Yelena and Kate said at the same time and Wanda looked at them and nodded.

“Of course she is coming, she is the one putting this whole thing together” Kate and Yelena stared at her. “What?”

“Oh, nothing…it’s just..I’ve done a bunch of weddings there and I think it might be small for what you want” Kate said. I don’t want to go there with them both, she thought.

“Then I’ll cut the guest list,” Wanda said.

“You know what? I think I can’t go..there is a seminar and I signed up..” Yelena said and Kate couldn’t help rolling her eyes at the obvious lie.

“You said you’d go…what’s gotten into you both?” Crap. 

“Nothing! Let’s go to this vineyard” Kate said, smiling and saw Yelena suck in a breath. 

“Let’s do this” Wanda hugged them both.

“What?!” Kamala said. They were in Kate’s office. “You are not quitting this wedding” Kate sighed and looked down. “This is about the doctor isn’t it?” Kate looked up at Kamala. Does she know? “It’s my fault, she had such a nice face…who knew she wouldn’t show up to your competition” Kate sighed.

“It’s not that…” Kate bit her lip. How could she say this…It was embarrassing. 

“There’s only one good reason to quit a wedding and that’s if you break the golden rule” Kamala walked from one side to the other of the office and looked at Kate. “Which is absurd, because we both know you didn’t fall in love with the other bride”

Fuck.

Say something.

Kate opened her mouth but nothing came out of it. Kamala looked at her. “What..you didn’t…”

“Of course not…I play by the rules..you know me…” Kate defended herself. “I never get emotionally involved…never…ever…like never ever ever….except…this time” Kate put her hands in her face and sighed. “It’s the doctor”

“I’m very confused right now…is the doctor or the other bride?” Kate looked up.

“The doctor is the other bride, the other bride is the doctor aka Wanda’s fiancee” Kate rolled her eyes at herself. “Isn’t it great?”

“Shut up…that can’t be” Kamala said, sitting next to Kate and she nodded.

“Understand now why I need to quit?” Kamala bit her lip.

“Katherine Elizabeth Bishop, you are not going to quit this wedding. You know why?” Kate just looked at Kamala who got up and stood in front of her. “You’ve worked your ass off to be where you are now.” Kate nodded. “And this wedding, this wedding is your ticket to be Carol’s partner. And no one deserves it more than you”

“You’re right. What was I thinking?” Kamala smiled. “I need to get my head in the game. This is just another wedding and it will be over sooner than later” Kamala nodded. “I’m a goddamn professional”

“That’s my girl”

Yelena was sparring with Sonya, her hospital colleague, in their gym’s ring. “So you’re telling me, the dumpster girl is your wedding planner?” Sonya said as Yelena kicked her ribs.

“I am in hell” Yelena said, moving away from Sonya’s punches.

“And I’m in heaven, you can give her my number…set us up” Sonya grinned and Yelena punched her in the face. “сука” 

“I’m not setting anyone up. This is complicated enough” Yelena growled. She knew deep down that she didn’t want to see anyone near the raven hair girl.

“It’s not complicated. You give me her number, I call her…and then…” Sonya wriggled her eyebrows and Yelena tried to kick her again but missed. “What’s the problem here?”

“You’re not going to get near her” Yelena missed another punch but turned around and kicked Sonya who took a hold of her leg.

“Why not Belova?” Sonya smirked.

“я тебя ненавижу” (I hate you). Sonya smirked and let go of Yelena’s leg. “Look...that night…there was something…I do not know…It was different…but a good kind”

“Did you guys…” Sonya asked and Yelena flushed.

“No, of course not” Yelena got off the ring followed by Sonya. “It is not anything like that…It is something deeper” Yelena knew she was fucked.

“Are you sure nothing happened between you two?” Sonya asked again.

“We only danced…” Yelena smiled at the memory. “And now…I…”

“You’re having second thoughts” Sonya finished for her.

“No, Wanda is great…We’ve known her for a long time…she is my sister’s best friend…but my mind keeps telling me…that maybe, just maybe…there’s something greater?” Yelena took off her gloves. 

“Listen to me now, this is completely normal…this” Sonya pointed to Yelena. “Are wedding jitters”. Yelena nodded. “You’re the one for Wanda, you’re just having some anxiety.”

“Yeah…it’s all anxiety…it’s not chemistry” Sonya nodded.

“Exactly”

“And what I have with Wanda is so much more than one dance under the stars” Sonya patted her back. “What was I thinking?”

“You’re an idiot, always have been,” Sonya grinned. 

“I am,” Yelena chuckled.

“Now…would you set me up” Yelena glared at Sonya who lifted her arms and laughed.

Kate looked outside the car window. They were on Yelena’s pick up on their way to the vineyard and she couldn’t stand it anymore. 

“Come on honey, we need to have a song. Right Kate?” Kate heard her name but she could only hum in response. Wanda changed the song and All of me from John Legend started playing. Kate rolled her eyes, this song was a complete cliche.

“I like it,” Yelena said, driving. 

“I don’t know…maybe it’s too normal?” Wanda said. If they get that song this is going to last way less time that I thought. Kate thought. “What about this one?” Wanda changed the song and Running up that hill played. “Uhh I love this one”

“Yeah, it is good, yes,” Yelena said, smiling.

“Are you going to say yes to every song?” Wanda chuckled and Yelena shrugged. “Come on, this is important” Kate looked up and her eyes locked with Yelena’s thru the rearview mirror. Fuck, I’m a professional, I’m a professional, I’m…fucked. Why does she have to have such pretty eyes?  She heard Yelena clear her throat.

“The next one will be our song” Yelena said and smiled at Wanda who grinned and pressed play. A thousand years…really? Kate let out a chuckle.

“Is something wrong with that song Kate?” Wanda asked and turned around to look at her.

“Oh no no, it’s a great song. Perfect for you guys” Kate grinned. 

“See? Told you we needed her” Wanda winked at her and touched Yelena’s arm for a second. Kate’s insides burn with jealousy. I don’t have the right to get jealous…she wasn’t mine to begin with. “Oh Kate, what happened with that girl who got you all lovey dovey” Yelena turned the wheel to the side in a fast move and came back to their lane. “Bel! Careful with the road” 

“Sorry, I thought I saw an animal…” She cleared her throat again and looked at Kate through the rearview mirror. Kate gave her a stern look and then looked at Wanda.

“Well…it didn’t work out,” Kate shrugged. “No biggie” 

“No biggie? Kate you were shining after that night” Kate swallowed and didn’t dare to look at Yelena who was 100% sure smirking at her. 

“She…had someone else” Kate gave her a tight lip smile. 

“No! what a slut” Kate nodded. “You deserve so much better than her, right honey?” Kate looked at Yelena then who was gripping the wheel tighter than before. “Uh, what about Sonya honey? They’d be a good fit”

“конечно нет (Hell no)” Yelena said thru gritted teeth. 

“Honey…you know I don’t like it when you speak in Russian…” Wanda said and Kate looked shocked. Is she nuts? How can she not like it? “Your sister understands that…she never talks to me in Russian” Wanda crossed her arms.

“Sorry, I said that no…I do not think Sonya is right for Kate” Yelena said calmly. 

“Why not?” Kate asked. She looked at Yelena’s hands and they were white from her grip on the wheel. 

“Sonya is dating someone” Yelena shrugged. 

“How come? You didn’t say anything to me” Wanda said. “Do you know them?”

“No I do not”

“Well Kate…maybe we’ll find someone at the vineyard for you, someone nice and trustworthy…not like that girl” Wanda said, nodding to herself.

“Yeah Wanda, that’s all I want” Kate looked at Yelena and gave her a phony smile. “You’re really lucky to have someone like Bel”

They arrived at the vineyard and Kate started her usual tour with the couple. She showed them the gardens at the entrance and told them how they could decorate everything. Meanwhile, Yelena and Wanda listened without saying a word.

“What do you think?” Kate asked them.

“I kind of love it, don’t you?” Wanda asked Yelena, but before she could reply…

“Katy! Hey” God no…don’t let it be him. She turned around and there he was, running to them.

“What are you doing here?” Peter ran to her and hugged her. I’m so going to kill him

“And who 's this?” Wanda asked with an eyebrow raised. Peter let go of Kate but put his arm around her hip. Kate looked at Yelena who had a big scowl on her face.

“I’m Peter, Katy’s fiance” He’s dead. She looked down. She didn’t dare to look at them.

“I’m sorry…did you say…fiance?” Wanda asked. 

“Yes” Peter said and gave Kate a peck on her cheek. 

“You are her fiance…” Yelena said. Kate could tell her voice was cold.

“This is no..” Kate started but Peter cut her off.

“Come on Katy, don’t be rude and introduce us to your fiance” Yelena said.

“Hi, we are Wanda and Bel” Wanda said, nicely. 

One of the workers from the vineyard overheard them. “Kate, you’re getting married! Congratulations” Peter grinned and Kate smiled at the man. “After all the weddings we’ve done together…I’m so happy for you”

“We are all very happy for Katy” Yelena said, hugging Wanda from the back.

“Well, we should keep going…” Kate said, taking Peter’s arm away from her.

“Oh I’ll wait around here my love” Peter said. “There’s a boxing ring over there” He looked at the couple. “Have to keep my muscles” 

“Whatever…if we go through here, we can…” Kate said and Yelena cut Kate off.

“Can I join you? yes?” Yelena said to Peter. Wanda and Kate looked at each other.

“If you want…but I don’t really want to hurt you” Peter smirked.

“Funny” Yelena laughed and pointed at Peter. “He thinks he can hurt me…so funny”

“Alright, let’s do this” They left them there and Kate smiled at Wanda.

“What was that? You didn’t say anything before” Wanda interlocked her arm with Kate’s.

“It’s really not what you think…” Kate sighed. She felt frustrated. Not only for Peter but for Yelena as well. It was already difficult to have feelings for the blonde…but Wanda…she was a sweetheart and Kate felt like a piece of crap. She knew she could be friends…but she didn’t want to know anything from them after the wedding.

“Then, explain it to me” Wanda smiled while they walked.

“It’s what my…my father wants” Wanda nodded.

“I understand that…when my parents were alive…they wanted me to have a different life…the company was meant to be for my brother…” Kate listened…she didn’t know Wanda had a brother. “But you see, after my parents died…he lost control of himself and well…” Kate could see the tears in Wanda’s eyes. “I lost him too…” Kate gave her a side hug. “It’s ok…thanks” Wanda gave her a watery smile. “Nat was there for me…”

“Yel…” Kate corrected herself. “Bel’s sister” Wanda nodded.

“How do you know?” Kate froze. Think fast.

“You mentioned her before” Wanda looked at her and after a while she nodded. Phew.

“She was…she saved me from everything and gave me the courage to keep going” Kate nodded. That’s what Clint has done for her. “And because of her I met Bel” Kate smiled and nodded. “Anyway…what I’m trying to say here is that you’re you, and no matter what your dad wants you to do…” Kate knew she was right… of course she was. She wasn’t thinking of marrying Peter…but after Yelena she needed…something…someone to take her mind off of well, her.

“Thanks Wanda” Wanda smiled. “I’ll think about it and…I’m sorry about everything that happened to you” Kate smiled. “I’m glad you had Nat with you” They reached another part of the vineyard. “Let’s get to business”

Yelena walked next to Peter on their way to the gym. She knew the place had a place to train so she decided to bring her things with her just in case she needed them. It was a good call.

“So…you are marrying Kate yes?” Yelena said and Peter grinned. Why is this kid always smiling? It is very annoying.

“Yeah, at least I really hope so…she is great” They arrived and got ready to enter the ring. “It’s my dream…having a life with Katy…kids…a spider farm”

“A what?” Yelena looked weirdly at him. 

“Spider farm, you know…the little bugs with 8 legs…” Peter said and Yelena rolled her eyes.

“I know what a spider is…” Is he for real? “Why do you want that?”

“I’ve always loved spiders…since I was a little kid” They stood in front of each other. “I think it’s because of Katy…” He spoke while warming up. “She saved me when we were little…a black widow was next to me and she killed it before it stung me” He shrugged. 

“Huh…” Yelena wasn’t sure what the hell she was doing…but if this guy was going to marry Kate…she needed to know he was worth it. Not that she cared for her…because she didn’t…it was anxiety…”Fight?” Peter nodded and signaled her to come for him.

Yelena didn’t waste a second and launched herself to him. She tried to punch him, kick him, grab him…but nothing. He’d move too fast and it was getting annoying. “I’m kind of nervous tho” Peter said without breaking a sweat. “I think she loves someone else…” At that Yelena stood frozen in place and Peter used this advantage to kick the back of her legs and threw her to the floor. 

“чертов отродье (Fucking brat)” Peter smiled down at her and she got up. This is not happening…not even Sonya could get her on the floor. She knew she got distracted…she’s been like that since Kate appeared in her life. “Do you know who?” She dared to ask.

Peter shook her head no. “I only know that she was hurt when someone didn’t go see her competition” Yelena was up again. “But I went” He grinned like a maniac. “I know she appreciated that”

Fuck, the competition…Yelena had forgotten about it, she knew Kate invited her but let’s be honest here…how could she go. That would have sent the wrong message. She loved Wanda…she was getting married to Wanda…so…why could she only think about Kate…

Yelena threw a punch but Peter stopped it with his hand. “Wow, you’re very good at this” Peter said. 

“недостаточно(not enough)” Peter wrinkled his nose in confusion. “How are you so fast?”

Peter shrugged. “I used to wrestle in high school”. Yelena nodded. She’d give it to him…the guy wasn’t that bad…except for the spider thing…”Are you excited for your wedding?” Peter took the punch Yelena sent his way and threw her to the side. 

“Of course, it is my wedding” Yelena was getting frustrated. She needed to at least hit him once. If she was getting the girl…oh fuck… She took her mind off and tried again.

“Your fiancee is beautiful too” Peter said nicely. 

“Yeah I know” Yelena was going to continue but he stopped her.

“But no one can compare to Kate” Yelena growled and took this chance to hit him right in the face. “Ouch, that hurt” Yelena smirked, proud of herself.

“Sorry” I am not. “We go back now?” Yelena suggested.

“Sure, we can race there” Yelena arched her eyebrow at him. “What? Are you afraid you won’t be able to keep up?” She scowled at him.

“I can beat you at everything” Yelena said and Peter answered with a grin.

Yelena’s parents arrived where Kate and Wanda were and they greeted each other. Melina looked around the place. 

“This is a nice place, right Alexei?” Melina asked her husband who nodded.

“Yes darling, it looks good. Not as good as…” Melina cut him off.

“We are not there anymore, so stop saying things about Russia” Kate looked at them and now she could hear the accent in them. How did she not notice before? 

“I’m sure there are beautiful places there but I think this is what Wanda and…Bel..want” Kate said. “Let’s walk around a little” And so they did. She showed them everything she showed Wanda and they were in love with the place by the end. They reached the gardens and Kate stopped walking when she saw Yelena and Peter running and trying to stop each other. 

“Honey…what are you…?” Wanda said while Alexei laughed out loud.

Kate watched as Yelena threw herself to Peter and how Peter dodged her in the last second, sending Yelena to the floor.

“Well done baby” Kate screamed and clapped. She received a weird look from Wanda and she made an apologetic face.

“That was cheating” Yelena screamed after Peter who was now next to Kate.

“It was not, what you did was” Peter shrugged. “I’m faster than you…deal with it” Peter grinned and tried to side hug Kate who moved out of his reach. She looked at Yelena and saw the fury in her eyes. Wanda got closer to her and took her hand.

“Are you ok?” Wanda asked.

“Of course” She gritted.

“Why don’t we go inside and have a drink?” Melina said and everyone agreed.

Once inside Kate took a moment to talk to Peter in private.

“Peter…what are you doing here?” She asked, frowning. She looked behind Peter and saw Wanda talking to Yelena who looked pissed.

“Clint told me you were coming here and I thought I’d surprise you” He smiled and she sighed.

“I thought we talked about this Peter…I told you I cannot get married to you” He looked down. “This is not a surprise…this is stalking…”

“I’m sorry…I just wanted to be with you…” Kate nodded. “I can leave now” She sighed.

“Stay, we’re leaving in the morning” He smiled again. “But…cut the wedding crap” He nodded.

“Can I ask you something?” Kate nodded. “Why if you don’t want this…why didn’t you deny it before?” Kate knew why. She didn’t want Yelena to think she’d be alone…

“I just didn’t want to explain everything to them” Kate shrugged and walked with him to where Yelena’s parents were.

“Bel, what’s gotten into you?” Wanda asked her. Yelena was too focused on Kate and Peter talking alone and the way he grinned at her.

“Nothing, I am ok” She drank from her cup. 

“Are you mad that he won that stupid race you were doing?” Wanda pointed out.

“He did not win…” Yelena looked at Wanda then. She looked worried. “Hey…you wanted to show me the sitting place right?”

“The sitting chart, yes” She grinned. “Look” Wanda opened her phone and showed it to Yelena. “That’s us and your parents and…”

“Wait, why is Natasha sitting so far away?” Yelena asked.

“Oh, she said she preferred to be seated there…” Wanda said. Yelena knew she wasn’t lying but she wasn’t saying the whole truth. “Look, I know how much Nat means to you…but this is what we are doing” Wanda said. Yelena didn’t like that one bit. She looked back to Kate and saw her laughing with her parents. She couldn’t help the little smile. “See, you are ok with it” Yelena looked back at Wanda and nodded.

“Whatever you want” Wanda gave her a peck on her lips and Yelena smiled. This was getting harder by the day. 

Yelena’s parents decided it would be a good idea to go around the vineyard with horses. Kate didn’t like the idea one bit. She’d never been on a horse before but before she could say no, Peter was walking them to the stables.

Melina sang a Russian song which made Yelena roll her eyes but Kate could see the little smile there. Alexei got next to her and laughed.

“Relax, he is not going to hurt you. Do you want Yelena to teach you?” Alexei offered and Kate shook her head no. “She is a pro” Kate smiled but shook her head.

“I’m ok” I really don’t need her telling me what to do. “It’s a short trip anyway” Kate heard Peter talking to Yelena and she wanted to look but she was afraid to look anywhere but at the horse.

“I gotta say, you put up a good fight earlier Bel” Peter said. 

“Thanks” It was just one word but you could hear the venom coming from it.

“I like you, you and I should be friends. We have many things in common, our love for beautiful ladies…the fights” Peter said and Yelena almost slapped him right there. Of course he didn’t know how true his words were…

“That is ok” She said instead.

Wanda rode next to Kate and smiled at her. “You know, I have a surprise for Bel after the wedding” 

“And what would that be?” Kate asked.

“With the benefits of this year, I bought a whole pediatric hospital and I would make her CEO there. She won’t do any more call duties or spend 12 hours there” Wanda smiled but Kate didn’t feel like smiling.

“Is that something she wants?” She saw the blonde woman with the kids. She loved her job. The kids loved her…a job behind a desk…that was not for her.

“She does, but she doesn’t know it yet” Kate didn’t know what to say at that. “She’s been through a lot and her body needs to relax. Nat and I think it would be for the best” Kate dared to look at her then. There was something…every single time Wanda named Nat…she could not say what…but it was different. “She is always doing the right thing for everyone, we want her to do the right thing for her”

“I’m sure she is not always doing the right thing,” Kate snickered. 

“She is, that’s one of the things that made me fall for her” Wanda smiled. “Her heart…it’s just too big” Kate smiled to herself remembering that night with her…she could tell as well. “Melina please…could you just be quiet?” At that Melina decided to sing louder, and her pitch scared Kate’s horse which took off and she screamed.

“Don’t worry Katy, I’m coming” Peter said but his horse ran to the other side. 

“Shh boy, calm down…come on” Kate was panicking. 

“Pull on the reins” Wanda screamed after her.

Yelena took off after her. Kate’s horse kept galloping and made a few jumps. “Bad horse,  bad horse” Yelena speeded up, she could see Kate’s horse getting closer to the river. “Oh god, I’m gonna die” Before she could say anything else, Yelena was next to her and she helped her onto her horse. Kate’s world stopped. She was straddling Yelena and Yelena was looking at her while stopping the horse. It was like time had stopped and there was no one else around them. Kate looked at Yelena’s eyes and saw fear. She was scared for her. “You…you saved my life…again” Yelena seemed to realize her hands were still holding onto Kate and she let go.

“You ok?” Yelena said in a whisper. Kate didn’t respond, she just looked at Yelena.

“Katy!” They heard Peter screaming and everyone getting closer to them. Kate watched how Yelena’s face changed.

“My goodness me…you could have died,” Melina said.

“Thank you Bel, for saving my woman” Peter said and Kate felt every muscle of Yelena tightening. 

“I’m terribly sorry, I didn’t want anything like this to happen” Kate said.

“Nothing of that, Bel honey, ride back with Kate” Yelena and Kate looked at each other.

“Oh that’s not…” Kate started.

“Darling, keep an eye on her,” Alexei said. “Go ahead, we have a bottle of wine here to finish of” He laughed out loud with the rest.

They were on their way back, Kate on the horse while Yelena walked next to her with the reins. They could hear the rest of the group further from them singing.

“Thank you…for saving me again” Kate said.

“No problem” Yelena said, harshly.

“You don’t have to be like that about it” Kate rolled her eyes but Yelena stopped and looked up at her. 

“What?” Yelena asked. “Do you want to check what happened today?” Kate didn’t say anything. “After what you said to me and the way you acted, now…surprise surprise,  you have a fiance, who if you let me, thinks he is the next Spiderman” Yelena scoffed. “”What the hell is your problem?” She kept walking. “You are always so hostile”

“My problem?” Kate answered in the same tone. “You’re the one here with a problem” She nodded to herself. “I’ve been in this business for a very long time and I can smell how long a couple will last together by the way they interact, the color of the flowers they pick, and so help me god by the song they pick” She raised her voice a little. “A thousand years? for real?” It was Kate’s turn to laugh. “So based on everything you can already call the lawyer and ask for a date for your divorce”

Yelena stopped again and got closer to the horse and Kate. “You want me to confess?” Kate looked down at Yelena. She seemed vulnerable. “I went to the movies with you because I was attracted to you” Kate tried to keep a hold on her emotions. “Maybe I was not sure about this wedding and you with your eyes and your stupid hair fooled me…but that is it” Yelena’s face was stoic. “Now thanks to you, I am sure Wanda is the one” Kate swallowed. She didn’t want to cry. “So all your theories…I call bullshit” Yelena kept on walking then. “So stop whatever this is, marry Spiderman and leave me the fuck alone”

Kate didn’t know what to say…she didn’t even know if she could say anything…she was hurt to the core. But what did she expect? Yelena leaving Wanda and running to her? That thought haunted her…not only because of the impossible of it but because of Wanda…She didn’t deserve that. At that moment Peter got closer to them singing in what he thought was Russian, copying Melina’s words. Kate sighed and didn’t say anything. 

They arrived at their rooms, Alexei and Melina went into theirs and Yelena took a bit tipsy Wanda by her waist. She looked at Kate. “I’m going to put her to bed. Goodnight everyone…” Before Yelena could close the door she heard Peter.

“Shall we go to our room my sweet love?” Yelena gritted her teeth and closed the door.

Kate entered her room with Peter and pointed to the couch. “Your bed” Peter who was more than a little tipsy smiled at her and crashed into the couch. She covered him with a blanket and sighed. She knew she wasn’t going to sleep…not after everything, so she took a quick shower and went to the lobby’s bar.

She was drinking something, she didn’t even know what when she heard her. “Isn’t that the witch of wedding predictions?” Kate looked behind her and there she was, a very tired looking Yelena.

“I’m too tired for this…” She said. 

Yelena sat next to her and sighed. They both looked at each other and said “I’m sorry” at the same time. They chuckled and Kate spoke first “you go”

“I am sorry I was so harsh to you…” Yelena apologized. 

“And I’m sorry I doomed your wedding…” Yelena chuckled. “You and Wanda will have a happy life together” Kate nodded to herself.

“And you and…Peter too” A bartender gave Kate the food she ordered. “I’m sorry for calling you hostile…”

“And I was only half serious about the wedding song” Kate said and Yelena smirked.

“At least I have a 50% chance” Kate ate her food and offered a bit to Yelena who shook her head no. “Can we…can we call it a..how do you Americans say it?” Kate smiled.

“A truce?” Kate offered.

“A truce, yes” Yelena gave her hand to shake and Kate took it. “All good now?”

“Sure” Kate smiled and Yelena got up. 

“Goodnight then..”

“Goodnight Yelena” Yelena smiled and nodded.

The next day the drive home was spent in silence. Wanda asleep with a migraine and Kate and Yelena stealing glances at each other from time to time.
