I'm (in)Famous
Gwen looks down from the ledge of the Stark Tower helicopter pad, having major second thoughts about just jumping off.
This seemed so much easier when I was in the lab… probably has to do with the fact that it is a little over 1,000 feet up.
“Hey! I thought I was supposed to be the slow one this time” Peter calls from the doorway.
She looks back to see Peter leaning against the doorway with a playful smirk gracing his lips. Peter continues, “You know if you want to play a game of chase this will be a very quick game right?”
“T-t-that’s not it I was just um waiting up so I didn’t get too big of a head start” Gwen retorts.
Peter finally makes his way out of the doorway over to Gwen. “Sure that’s why you’re over here stuttering your words”.
Gwen gives him a look with a scoff and turns away, taking another glance at the drop below. As she thinks maybe they should try something a little easier her thoughts are cut off by Peter.
“You want to know the secret to web-swinging?” He whispers next to her.
“Sure, what wise lesson are you going to bestow on me now Parker?” She bites back at him.
Before she knows it Peter makes his right next to Gwen and looks down at the busy streets below. Taking a glance back at his girlfriend, he puts on the mask hiding a smirk, and backflips off the building. “It’s just a leap of faith Gwen”
Confusion flits across Gwen’s face at the statement, wondering how that is any help and if maybe Peter has taken too many shots to the head. She looks over the edge and yells down “How’s that supposed to he— ahhh” She feels a web hit her chest and pulls her down with Peter.
Once the ground below her feet was gone she kept chanting the same mantra over and over. Oh my god. I’m going to kill him.
Further down below she can hear Peter laughing about her predicament. As the wind whips around her as she plummets below, she quickly puts the mask in her hand over her head, with her frustration mounting at Peter, her eyes narrow and locked on to the red and blue dot below. As the ground starts coming toward her faster she throws out her hand and with a thwip she launches herself in the direction of her soon-to-be-dead boyfriend.
As Peter is still laughing he takes a chance to see how Miss Graceful behind him is fairing. As he gets a good look his eyes widen as Gwen is hurtling towards him at speeds he didn’t think were possible. Alright, Pete, you’re going to be fine. You’ve been at this forever and you know the streets like the back of your hand. His inner monologue was cut short when hearing a shout from behind “You’re dead bugboy” he grew more nervous. With a hard pull to the right through an alley, he believed he could lose her. How wrong he would soon be not realizing when Gwen had a goal or, in this case, a goal to acquire nothing ever really stopped her.
He made his way through multiple alleys, streets, signs, and bridges and was still having trouble losing her. Even with the hardest moves to dodge and maneuver around their playground, Gwen stayed right with him. I think what’s making this worse is that not a few hours ago she was hitting buildings. What the heck happened? With a last-ditch effort to escape the furious Spider-Woman, he went through another alleyway and cut back around. Looking behind him he realizes he has no pursuer anymore. With a sigh of relief, he let his guard down as he nonchalantly swung through the streets.
For Gwen, her frustrations from earlier were getting closer to rage-induced as she couldn’t quite catch Peter. So realizing she wouldn’t be able to catch up to Peter she decided to switch her tactics and let him gain a lead on her and she disappeared from his view.
She decides the best way to make herself scarce is to make it up to the rooftops to have the height advantage. As she looks down the street she sees the red and blue blur go past her. She continues to tail him until he slows himself down and like a lioness on the prowl for her prey she strikes. Ran off the roof flinging herself at Peter and tackling him to a nearby rooftop before she grabbed both his arms and pinning him to the ground.
With heavy breaths, she begins,” You know huff you’re the huff absolute huff boyfriend ever.”
With widening eyes, Peter manages to say, “How were you able to catch me? You couldn’t even swing without hitting a building earlier”.
After finally catching her breath, “Well I had a reason to not mess up”.
She goes on leaning towards Peter’s ear and seductively whispers, “You know what that means right?”
Peter being your average guy is left pretty much speechless whispers back, “What”.
Gwen lets go of his wrists as one arm pulls both masks up and over their mouths, ”this”
What Peter failed to realise as his eyes went shut was Gwen's arm reaching back and coming down hard on his shoulder.
“Ouch, what the heck was that for Gwen” Peter exclaims as he tries to rub his shoulder knowing that a bruise will most definitely form.
“That was for throwing me off a building.” comes Gwen’s snarky retort.
“Fair enough. But winces I believe you popped my shoulder out of place.”
Her mouth drops open not realizing she has put that much power into the punch to try to assess the damage. “Pete let me see it”
“Gwen shush” Peter whispers harshly back.
“Hey, if you didn’t-”
“I’m not talking about that Gwen listen” Peter carefully approaches the side of the building where Gwen is motioning to come closer. He points down below toward what seems to be a mugging. Just a single person but it looked like the assailant had a gun.
“So, I think I should take this so that you know what to do in this situation sounds good?” Peter asks Gwen.
“No, I’ve got him plus New York needs to know that there isn’t just one spider anymore”. She casts a wink his way before jumping off and sticking to the opposite wall. She slowly crawls towards the mugger and quickly shoots a web at the gun, pulling it towards her and yanking it away, sticking it to the wall next to her.
With sass only Gwen could bring, she says, “Has anyone ever told you how dangerous those are?”
“You’re not the spider freak” the thug states.
“Nope I’m not that’s more his job” she points above herself, where they can see Spider-Man watching below. Both hear annoyed “hey” from above. She looks back to her target before dropping down, throwing him into the wall, and webbing him up to leave for the police.
She looked over at the victim and asked if they were okay, which received a slight nod as she webs out of the alley and closer to the center of the city.
She eventually finds herself just outside of Central Park on a nearby skyscraper. She hears a thump of what she assumes is Peter.
“You know you handled that pretty well. Other than the disappearing act without really checking on the person.”
She glances behind her and humorlessly chuckles, “Sorry we’re all not perfect like you Pete”
“Well it’s been a long day and it seemed the suits made it through the test drive. How does it feel by the way?” Peter looks towards her with a hint of concern in his voice.
Gwen then pulls off her mask and smiles slightly,” It’s great. I couldn’t ask for it to be better. But I should probably get home now before my father freaks out. I’ll see you tomorrow.” She quickly makes her way to him pulling the mask up slightly planting a kiss on him and making her way to the edge of the roof plummeting below before rocketing back towards the sky off in the direction of home.
Peter checks his phone, realizing the time and mutters to himself, “Well I guess it's time to turn it in as well” As he makes his way toward the ledge, he sees a pop-up of a bank robbery in progress. So much for turning in… He then launches into the air towards the crime scene.
With how her days have gone recently, Gwen is expected today to be like any other. As she awoke, she was no longer tired. She felt great almost as great as when she woke up in Stark Tower many days ago. As she got herself ready for the day, throwing on whatever she saw first in her closet and putting the new spider suit in her backpack, she made her way to the kitchen. As she was making herself something before school her TV made background noise on the events of the last night and this morning. As she was cooking, a familiar voice made itself known in the background.
“This just in folks there are reports that say that there isn’t just one Spider-Menace but now we have another one!”
The sound of a spatula she was holding was heard throughout the small space as it hit the floor in a crash. She quickly turns towards the TV, turning the volume up to hear what appraising words Triple J has for her.
“This is the worst news I’ve had to bring in a long time people! Think of the destruction now that there are two as if one wasn’t bad enough.’ His eyes were blown out as he kept up the rambling. "This individual may be the one we heard about a few days ago about a vigilante stopping a mugging just the other day! They described their rescuer as a ghost as if she was there one moment and gone the next! It's ridiculous that there’s no such thing as a ghost spider…”
“Huh I guess I’m somewhat famous now” Gwen chuckled to the TV as she smelt something burning,” Oh no! Shoot shoot not the eggs!” she quickly made her way pulling her burnt breakfast from the pan and with a sigh, “Guess no breakfast today.”
Again the TV could be heard as Gwen was throwing away her ruined breakfast and making her way to her room to grab her things before getting to the TV to turn it off, catching the end of Jameson saying,” Hoffman get down the patent office and copyright the name Ghost Spider, I want a quarter every time someone says it!”
Even with superpowers, I can’t make anything off it, but everyone else can Gwen thinks before turning the TV off and heading out the door for school.
