Part III
"Umm, Hi Pete"
"What are you doing here Gwen? This is dangerous! And you have no clue what you're doing!" Peter continues to whisper and yell.
"Hey I know what I'm doing I'm here to stop a drug deal some guys in the alley near home were talking about a meeting here and you are aware of it. Also, isn't it better that I'm here two people will make this whole thing end faster instead of just one".
"Yes theoretically it could be faster with two people-"
With a scoff and an eye roll, Gwen says, "Well that settles that so how about instead of lecturing me give me the rundown of the game plan"
"Bu-you can't just-*sigh*. I'm not persuading you out of this am I?"
"Nope. So what's the gameplan Spider-Man?"
"Well before I came in I've taken out the guards on the outside so we shouldn't have to worry about anyone else coming into the building just the people that we can see from here"
"Ok, so that leaves the 40 or so guys in here. Is there usually this many people for this type of thing I have a feeling it's a bit overkill"
"Yeah. This is odd there are usually maybe 20 people at best and that includes the outside security. I'm thinking we should probably pick off as many stragglers from the outside of the group before we go to the main group in the middle"
"Alright sounds like a plan Spidey." Gwen leaps over to the far wall where a couple of lookouts are.
"Gwen! What are you- never mind she never listens to me"
Gwen perches overhead the first thug quickly webs his feet and places a well-placed punch knocking him out and webbing him to the wall.
"Night. Night" Gwen says as she moves towards the next person and much like the first they're walking away and going toward the stairwell with the main group.
She spins a web that attaches to the thug's back brings him towards her and places a quick kick to the body before webbing him near his unconscious buddy. "you'll need to walk that one off" she says with a slight grimace.
"Need to work on the whole strength control Gwen," she thinks to herself.
As she looks back at the efficiency of doing this as many times as Peter has realizes they're down to the last 10 or so guys. She jumps back to the top of the rafters where Peter is camped out analyzing their next move.
"So are we going with stealth still or go in with a bang" Gwen asks Peter.
"I think we'll have to go with the latter since I don't think they'll split apart. You ready to make your big debut?"
"Heh about that I may have already done that the other day..." Gwen mumbles the last part.
"How could you have done that... wait you were the ghost that I heard on the scanner that night?"
"Ummm maybe... that's not the point let's just get this done cause I still have homework to finish and this wasn't exactly how I was planning my night".
"Well you could have left and let me do it but it's a little late for that"
"I know but I mean I was already here when I overheard them, I know you're always busy I thought I could help you out for once"
"You didn't have to I've been doing this for a couple of years now it would've been fine but I appreciate it"
Down below someone gets on the radio.
"Hey, Jimmy you there. How's it looking out there."
*Crackles*
"Jones can you check on Jimmy he seems to not be responding"
*Crackles*
"Guys I think the bug is here I'm not getting anything from the guys outside"
"I believe that is our cue. Wanna do the honors?"
"Oh really you sure? I mean I don't want to steal your thunder."
"Well you already stole the name ya might as well go the whole 10 yards" Peter replies with a chuckle.
"Alright but I warned you"
Gwen attaches a web to the ceiling and slowly makes her way down the group of thugs. As she gets nearer the closest one to her taps his shoulder.
"Hey," Gwen says
"Hey" the thug turns back around to the other before the realization dawns on him and you are back around to be met with a fist that topples the two standing by the product.
"I will say I am so sorry boys for raining on your parade but this is a red ribbon facility and your breaking so many rules"
"Who the hell are you supposed to be?!" stated one of the men.
"I don't know name is still in the works. But we can do this the easy way or the hard way."
A few of the thugs pick up what looks to be crowbars and pipes.
"Alri, the hard way it is but before we get to the whole swinging objects thing I have only one thing to say... Especially you." she points toward the man who was speaking earlier.
"Heads up!"
Before the man has a chance to comprehend what was said Spider-Man came in and kicks the guy in the back sending him flying at his buddies going unconscious.
"Ouch! That is gonna leave a mark." Gwen calls out " And for my last trick..." She web zips toward one of the men with a crowbar punching him and sending him flying into another group knocking him out in the process.
"Wait there's two of them now!?" yells one of the remaining members of the group.
As quickly as that left his mouth both Gwen and Peter knocked out all the members beside one who they believed to be running the whole operation. Gwen shoulder checks him into the air slightly more forcefully than necessary as Peter webs him and hangs him from the ceiling.
"Alright. We need answers and your going to tell me... or else" Peter tells their leader.
The man lets out a chuckle, "You're not going to do anything to me. Whatever bad thing you think would make me talk is nothing compared to what the Big Man would do."
"Big Man? So that's the head honcho. So why don't you tell me who that is and I may be able to help you with your current predicament"
"What part of you don't scare me Spider don't you understand? You won't do anything and lets be real you won't kill me so what should I worry about"
Peter turns to Gwen hoping she can read what he's thinking and just play along.
"you're right I may not but they will" he points toward the other spider.
Gwen slowly makes her way to the With one man. One hand in her hoodie she makes it seem like she is carrying a sharp object of some sort. With the hood shrouding most of her face all the guy can see is an ominous figure approaching. As she pulls out the object that seems to be in her hand the guy calls out.
"Okay, okay I'll talk. I don't know much mind you but the man you're looking for is Lincoln. No one knows who he is he keeps it a mystery but word is he's a higher-up individual."
"Thanks that's all we needed" Gwen lands a quick punch to the guy's temple knocking him out. "I guess you could say they've been ghosted... huh huh"
Peter blankly looks at his girlfriend. "Just because a police report said a person appeared and reappeared like a ghost doesn't mean you can make ghost puns."
"Well, I thought it was good" Gwen mumbles back. "But that's not the case right now... we should probably call the cops about this right?"
"yeah, I'll handle it. I'll see you in a second we need to talk before you get home"
"Alright, I'll meet you on the rooftop across the street"
As Peter makes the call to the authorities Gwen climbs across the street. Sitting down she ponders I wonder what they'll call me hopefully not Spider-Woman. I mean it could cause trouble long-term and could get Pete and me in trouble.
Peter ends the call and swings his way in the direction Gwen went. He quietly lands next to Gwen with a soft thud.
"Ya know as much as I don't want to admit it you did good. It was dangerous and stupid doing it but you did good"
"Thanks, Peter."
"Why did you steal my web shooter"
"Well I mean I never knew if I would need them or not and I would say that I did pretty well with them for it being a dry run with them."
"Yeah. So this was a one-time thing right Gwen?"
"Well..."
"Gwen."
"Yes?" she looks at Peter.
"You can't be doing this you need to be safe"
"See that's where you're wrong Pete. Every day you go out there I don't know if you'll be okay I just have to trust that you will eventually come home. You're like my dad I can't protect him but now I can! And I don't have to worry so much about you because then I'll have your back and you'll have mine!"
"Gwen that doesn't keep you safe"
"Well apparently when I was just 'normal' that didn't keep me very safe too did it Peter"
As soon as the words left her mouth she realized she made a mistake.
"Pete... I didn't mean-"
"That's enough! Okay, Gwen, I know that you'll always be in danger but with you out here with me that puts you at more risk and I can't risk that... Gwen I quite literally watched you die. You died Gwen. In. My. Arms. So don't try and criticize me about wanting you to be fine."
"Peter I'm here and I'm safe and if I'm out there I can help and I'll be able to protect myself. I won't be a damsel in distress." Gwen lets out a frustrated sigh.
"Gwen... just go home. We'll talk about it tomorrow. Maybe in a calmer manner"
"Pe- okay... just be safe okay?' she comes closer pulls off her mask and lightly presses a kiss toward his cheek 'I love you"
Peter brushed by her giving what Gwen thought was barely a hug and swung off.
Letting out a sigh Gwen made her way down the building after putting the items back in the bag and made her way home. Lost in her thoughts on the way home she realized he never said it back which brought a mist to her eyes.
She understood why he was upset but why couldn't he see that they could help each other? She made her way to her room took a quick shower and plopped herself down to try and attempt some of the work that she was assigned. She made it about three-quarters of the way through before she ended up quitting and going to bed. As she thought back to their argument on the roof tears formed in her eyes as she quietly cried herself to sleep. She never heard the buzz that came from the counter where her phone was lying.
