Research

On Tuesday Peter googled “How to flirt”, but felt too embarrassed to actually read any of the articles that popped up so he left the tab open, buried behind his research for class. This was so stupid. He should know how to do this!

It wasn’t like he’d never been interested in anyone before, never flirted or had sex. Wade was just so different, the experiences felt incomparable. He had been friends with MJ before they dated, but she hadn’t exactly been super into him like that from the start. Wade had been all over him from day one, and it was Peter who needed time to realize how he felt. It was confusing to be on the other side of it.

There also hadn’t been this competitive feeling with MJ. It had been a sweet, high school romance that simply couldn’t last the shit into adulthood and Peter’s double life as Spiderman. Peter wasn’t sure why Wade sparked this side of him, but he knew it was part of his draw in the first place. Peter had a lot more in him than just your usual submissive Omega (although he certainly had that in him too).

Over the weekend he found himself looking back at his initial Google search. The top article was titled “Top 5 Ways To Get The Alpha Of Your Dreams”. He hesitantly clicked on it.

The article contained exactly what he thought it did, a list of things like ‘dress to accentuate your curves’ and ‘show respect through submission’. He cringed internally. The article was published recently, but its narrative couldn’t have been more out of date. Unfortunately, most of the articles he read had similar tips and tricks, all of which felt uncomfortable and unhelpful to him.

He sighed, frustrated, leaning back in his chair. After a moment, he leaned forward again and typed ‘how to flirt with an omega’ into the search bar. He hit enter. Once again, the articles were filled with stereotypes. However, it felt less degrading to think about doing these things. These articles talk about acts of service, like cooking or offering to fix broken household items. One particular piece of information he found interesting was a list of places to touch Omegas.

Nothing inappropriate, but places like ‘the underside of the chin’ which apparently held ‘biological significance’. Peter could infer what that was supposed to mean. They were places of arousal, sure, but more that than. Being touched there, in a certain way, was incredibly meaningful. Even though he was alone, Peter flushed just reading the term ‘back of the neck’ at the bottom of the list. The article noted that while this place was somewhat easily accessible, it was the most significant place and should not be handled lightly. The article of course elaborated that this was because it was where a mating bite should go, eventually.

Peter thought back to one of the first nights he’d fallen asleep on Wade's lap during movie night. It was a fond, albeit sleep-hazed memory for him. Even so, he remembered how it had felt when Wade's fingers had brushed the hair at the base of his head, barely even really on his neck. It had been like a line of electricity through his body, and he’d shifted his neck open to Wade on instinct. Peter had tried to quantify the feeling in words before, but it felt impossible. It felt warm in his body, like deep trust, safety, and belonging. His sleep had felt like more. It had felt like a willing surrender to Wade, a promise or a vow of some kind.

He touched his lip at the memory, worrying it with his thumb. Did Alphas have places like that? Why hadn’t he read that anywhere? He googled ‘Alpha places of biological significance’ and not much that was actually relevant presented itself. He was about to give up when he stumbled upon a forum talking about ‘places of significance’ in general.

He scrolled through the comments, seeing a lot repeated about Omegan places of significance again. A few comments in, someone addressed the Alpha side of the equation. Bingo!

The commenter described calming her Alpha with soft touches to his inner wrist and the sides of his neck. The neck was a common thread no matter the designation- including Betas. Even without the mating significance, it was just an arousing area. The wrist and forearm mention was interesting to Peter. That should be easy enough, shouldn’t it? He also planned to try more of the tips for Alphas. The ones for Omegas were so passive- he didn’t want to do that anymore. He wanted to do the chasing, not be chased.
