Chapter 5

Monday came and went, and the evening came. The whole SHIELD team had been working so hard they could all day investigating the attack on Tony.
Unfortunately no one knew more about what had happened last night. There were no witnesses, and Tony himself was still unconscious.
Things felt pretty hopeless right now when it came to finding the one or those who had done this..

During the day, all memebers of the team had visited Tony and supported Steve. He didn`t say much, but he surely was very thankful to everyone for showing that they cared.
Natasha and Wanda was the last ones to come.
Wanda couldn`t possibly visit alone, and Natasha had to comfort the younger girl all the way down.
They sat with Tony and Steve for a long time. Natasha even managed Steve to get some rest. She asked the medical team for one extra bed, and it was placed right beside Tony`s.
After a lot of protests he layed down on the bed, and he was so totally exhaused he felt asleep in the very moment his head hit the pillow.
Wanda had been crying all the time when they sat there, and at last she felt asleep sitting in one of the chairs.
Natasha stayed by Tony`s side the whole time while the other two slept.

One month later.

Life at the SHIELD team had slowly went back to a kind of normal four weeks after Tony was attacked and seriously hurt. At least for some of them.
Steve was still being most of the time with his boyfriend.
If he had to take care of some other things or needed to rest, there were always someone else sitting there with Tony. Most of the time it was either Natasha or Tony`s best friend Rhodes.
After two long weeks he had finally got the message about Tony, after being outside every possibility to achieve radio contact with the team. After three long hours he had come to the intensive care. He had really worked hard to find out something around the attack a month ago, but nothing new came up.
Everyone was just waiting and hoping for Tony to wake up, but the doctors had said it could take time.
His body had been through a really hard strain.

Three months after the attack.

It was late sunday evening and Steve was laying in the bed beside Tony, like he had been doing since all of this happened three months before.
He had just begun to dozen off, when he heard a moan.
He sat up and looked over at Tony. Suddenly he could hear Tony moan again, and it was like he tried to say something.
Steve pushed the emergency button, and jumped out of bed. He took Tonys hand in his, and squeezed it very carefully.

“Tony, baby...can you hear me?” he asked. “Please sweetheart, you have to wake up now...you have been away from me for so long now” he sobbed.
“Steve...is that you?” Tony whispered so low Steve could barely hear it.
He slowly opened his eyes and looked at Steve.
“Where...where am I?” Tony asked. “Why are you crying, baby?”

Then the emergency team suddenly came into the room. Dr. Helen Cho took Tonys hand in hers, and tried to find his pulse, as one of the other doctors checked up on the heart monitor.
“Mr. Stark, can you look at me?” she asked. Tony slowly turned his head and looked at her. “Dr. Helen...what are you doing here” he asked.
He tried to sit up, but he was too weak right now.
She sat down beside him. “Please, just relax, Mr. Stark.” she said. “You have been through a really serious incident, and it is very important to take one step at a time”. “But it seems like the worst is behind us now, and I must say you`re a real fighter, Tony”.
The fact that dr Helen Cho actually used his first name told everyone how grateful and relieved she was.
But that was nothing against what Steve felt right now. He just couldn`t stop either crying or smiling, as he held Tonys hand in his, while gently caressing his cheek with the other hand.
“I`ve missed you so much, baby” he said. “I`m so glad you`re back here with me again, my love”.
Soon Tony felt asleep, and Steve continued to sit with him until he himself fell asleep with his head on Tony`s chest.
