An annoying sound caused Gambit to stir in his sleep. The sound suddenly stopped and he drifted back to sleep only to be shaken lightly a few seconds later. “Rems,” He heard someone say as the light shaking continued. Opening his eyes, he saw Rogue leaning over him with a gentle smile on her face. “You’re gonna be even later if you keep falling asleep, hun.” She said quietly.
“Dammit.” Gambit muttered as he sat up and rubbed his face vigorously to wake himself.
“I’ve never known you to sleep through your alarm.” Rogue said, getting off the bed and watching as Gambit got up and started to get dressed.
“Well, las’ minute plans to have me watch these damn kids wasn’t my idea.” He said, grouchily as he slipped on some sweatpants and a tank top. “Tellin’ me after a patrol when we getting in at four in the mornin'.” He continued to mutter.
“Are you really gonna wear that?” Rogue asked.
He looked at her and saw her eyebrow raised. “What’s wrong with it?” He asked. “This how they got me today, especially tellin’ me so late.”
“Well,” Rogue said, walking around and meeting him at the foot of the bed. She placed her hands on his chest and ran them to his shoulders. “Just remember to be patient with these kids, alright? And don’t be such a sourpuss.”
Letting out a deep breath, he calmed down looking into Rogue’s green eyes. “I’ll try.” He said, sliding his hands up her sides before resting them on her hips. “Sorry.” He said, resting his forehead against hers.
“I get it.” Rogue said. “I’ll swing by and stick my head in if you want.”
“Merci .” He said before kissing her softly. “I’m grabbing some coffee on the way in and they can just deal with it.”
Rogue smiled, shaking her head, as she followed him out of their room, slipping her hand in his as they headed towards the staircase. Gambit ran his right hand through his hair as they eventually entered the kitchen. Storm was at the island counter reading a magazine and looked up at them as she took a sip of her tea.
“Good morning.” She said to them.
“Morning, hun.” Rogue said, walking over to her and leaned her elbows on the island counter across from Storm before putting her hand up to block her mouth from Gambit. “Remy’s a little grumpy this morning, so don’t talk to him.” She said, almost whispering.
Storm smiled as she glanced over at him, seeing him making a large cup of coffee. “I won’t, even though he is late.” She quietly said.
“I ain’t deaf.” Gambit said, shooting a glance at the two women over his shoulder as the machine stopped and he threw the pod out and into the trash.
“I hope you have a wonderful day, Remy.” Storm said, leaving it at that.
Turning around with his large mug, he looked at Storm for a moment. “You look beautiful today, Ro.” He said emotionless before turning and heading out of the kitchen.
“I’m pretty sure that meant ‘go to hell’.” Rogue said, making them both laugh.
Walking down the hall and into the room where detention was being held, he saw four students laughing in the corner watching one of their phones and three more students in the other corner chatting. “Seats!” He said loudly, making them all jump and look at him.
“You’re twenty minutes late.” One of the students said. “Did you have a late night with your wife?” He wiggled his eyebrows with a smile, making the other students laugh.
Gambit narrowed his eyes at the student as he sat down at the desk. “I was on patrol last night and got in at four this mornin' so yeah, I did have a late night.” He said, setting the coffee mug down on the desk. “Get your homework out.” He rubbed the back of his neck where it was tight with tension.
Sitting back in the chair, he leaned his head back and closed his eyes as he felt a headache coming on. He started to rub his temples when he heard a knock on the doorframe. Opening his eyes, he saw Rogue at the door with a smile and her hand still in a fist from knocking.
“Mrs. LeBeau!” A few students exclaimed, excitedly.
“Shh.” She said, putting a finger to her lips and winking at them before walking over to Gambit and leaning against the desk. “How’s it going?” She asked quietly, crossing her arms.
Gambit shrugged. “Okay, I guess.” He said, looking at the students and seeing a few of them watching. “Somthin’ wrong?”
“No.” The students shook their heads and looked back down at their homework.
Still smiling, Rogue looked back at Gambit. “You hungry? I can bring you somethin' to snack on.” She said, reaching her left hand out to him.
“You already did.” He said with a smirk, taking her hand and kissing it.
“Okay now.” She said with a playful smirk as he started to gently rub her knuckles with his thumb. “But seriously. I can bring you somethin’.” She repeated.
“Eh, only if you want.” He replied as she gently pulled her hand away and kissed the top of his head.
“I’ll be back.” She said as she turned, walked to the door and disappeared to the right.
Letting out a deep breath, he saw one of the female students looking at him. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
The girl shook her head and smiled, “You two are literally relationship goals.” She said, “I hope I can be as happy as you two, one day.”
A smile appeared on Gambit’s face. “Hasn’t always been easy or happy, fille .” He said, reaching for his mug and taking a sip of coffee. “Besides, you got a long while before you need to go worry ‘bout all that stuff.”
“I know,” The girl said. “It’s just fun to think about.”
Ten minutes went by before Rogue returned with a plate. “Here you go, sugah.” She said, placing the plate down in front of Gambit on the desk. “Enjoy.”
Looking down at the plate, Gambit smirked. “Buttered toast with jam. My favorite.” He said sarcastically, seeing Rogue put her hands on her hips.
“I can take it back, Mr. Scrooge.” Rogue said, putting her weight on one leg, causing her hip to pop out.
Gambit shot her a smirk as he placed his hand on her hip. “I kid.” He said, “You know I ‘ppreciate you, sha. Love you.”
Rogue stood there for a moment before she leaned down and kissed him. “Love you, too. Have a good day. I’ll be back later to check on you.” She said, giving him a wink before she went for the door.
Gambit watched her walk off before she disappeared around the doorframe. He let out a silent sigh as he picked up a piece of toast and took a bite.
“Mr. LeBeau?” A student asked.
Looking up, he saw one of the girls in the very back raising her hand. “Yeah?” He asked.
“Um, what do we do when we’re done with our homework?” She asked.
“I don’t know. Read a book?” He said, taking another bite.
“I didn’t bring a book.” The girl said.
" Pourquoi moi? " Gambit said as he raised his eyebrows and closed his eyes before pinching the bridge of his nose. The headache was definitely coming on now. “Do whatever you want.” He said. “Just stay quiet and behave. You’re in detention, so you’re supposed to be in trouble.”
As three hours slowly crept by, his headache got worse and worse. The bright sunlight wasn’t helping, streaming through the large windows and pouring down on him. Taking his phone, he shot a text to Rogue before laying his head back and closing his eyes. A few moments later, he heard footsteps getting closer. When they reached the door, he opened his eyes to see his wife walking in with a smile.
“What’s up?” She asked.
“Got me a migraine.” He said, eyes halfway shut. “Can you grab me some aspirin or whatever we got?”
“Sure.” Rogue said, touching the side of his face before she left and then returned five minutes later and handed him the pills, “There you go.”
“Thanks, sha.” He said, taking the pills and the bottle of water she brought and downed them. “Mm.” He moved his head side to side, trying to stretch his neck muscles.
Rogue smiled, walking behind him and placing her hands on his shoulders. “Dang, you’re really tight up here.” She said, massaging his shoulders and neck.
“Don’t doubt it.” He said, closing his eyes, “Didn’t get no sleep.”
“Well after you’re done here, you can hop right back in bed.” Rogue said, leaning over and kissing the top of his head. “You’ve got a nice knot here.”
Gambit closed his eyes and furrowed his brows as she worked on the knot. “Mm.” He winced at how tender it was. “There we go... Right there... Mm.”
“How’s that feel?” She asked, moving to his shoulders.
“Perfect.” He said, turning his head left and then right.
“You know,” A student said, getting their attention. “For those of us who have our heads down, it sounds like you're having sex.”
Rogue lightly laughed. “Leave it to a teenage boy to say that.” She said, patting Gambit’s shoulders lightly. “Hope that helped.”
“It did.” Gambit said, looking up at her. “Thanks, mon amour .”
“No problem.” She said, leaning in and giving him another quick kiss. “I’ll see you later, sugah.”
Letting out a sigh, he checked his phone and saw that he had forty-five minutes left. "Wish I could time travel right about now." He muttered, seeing a few students look up at him.
"Can we leave early?" One student asked.
"Hell no." Gambit said, narrowing his eyes at the boy. "You in detention, so you don't get no privileges."
"We're all done with our homework, Mr. LeBeau." A girl said. "We've been quiet. Can we please leave early?"
Taking the bottle of water that Rogue brought him, he slowly unscrewed the cap and took a few sips before screwing the cap back on. "Lemme get this straight," He said, placing the bottle in his lap. "Jus' because y'all been quiet, you think you get to leave early?"
"Well, yeah." One of the male students said.
Sitting up straight, he placed the bottle on the desk. "Listen," He said, getting their attention. "I don't wanna be here any more than y'all do, but rules are rules. If I wanted, I could keep y'all longer." They started to complain. "Ey, stop complainin'."
"We won't tell anyone that you were late." Another female student said.
"Or maybe we will, if you don't let us leave early." A male student in the back said with a smirk.
Gambit shrugged. "Go ahead and tell on me. I don't give two shits." He said, leaning back and crossing his arms over his chest as the student looked crestfallen that his plan didn't work.
The students started to mutter and complain about how unfair he was being towards them, even after they had been quiet and done what he had asked of them.
"Y'all the whiniest kids, mon Dieu ." He said, seeing someone approach out of his peripheral vision.
"What's all this bellyaching about?" Rogue walked in and stopped under the door frame, placing her hands on her hips.
"Mrs. LeBeau, we've done everything your husband asked and he won't let us leave early." One of the boys whined.
Rogue raised her eyebrow before crossing her arms. "And why should he?" She asked, seeing them look at her in surprise. "Y'all are here, because y'all got in trouble this week. If you ask me, y'all don't deserve to leave early."
The students complained. "Ha! She always on my side." Gambit said, smirking.
Rogue looked over at him and winked. "Y'all need to do your time." She said, walking over and sitting on the end of the desk and looking at the clock on the wall. "Ain't got much longer, anyway."
"But he was late!" A girl said.
"And y'all ain't never been late in your life?" Rogue asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, well..." The same girl trailed off.
Gambit kept smirking as he placed his hand on Rogue's thigh. She smiled down at him and placed her hand on his. "How's your head?" She asked.
"Feeling better, now." He said, raising an eyebrow. "I think maybe after we done here, we head upstairs."
"Yo!" One of the male students said, "PDA!"
"Oh hush up." Rogue playfully said to the student. "Y'all are old enough to handle two adults talking." She turned her attention back to Gambit. "What did you have in mind?"
"Well," He stood up and faced her, placing his hand on both of her thighs before leaning over and whispering into her ear.
"Mr. LeBeau," Rogue said in a theatrical voice, pushing him away playfully, "I should wash your mouth out with soap."
"No spankin'?" He asked, hearing the students start to mutter uncomfortably.
Glancing at the clock, he saw they had fifteen minutes left. Looking back at Rogue, she gave him a wink and a playful smile.
"Class dismissed." Gambit said, running his hands up Rogue's thighs and pulling her closer to him. "Y'all get outta here and stay outta trouble."
They gazed into each other's eyes waiting for the last of the students to leave before Gambit pulled Rogue up to stand.
"Let's go on back to bed." He said in a husky tone as he kissed her lips, turning on the passion.
