Greek Mythology AU (Jason x Kory)

“You are here today being accused of murder and theft. How do you plead?”, questioned the God sitting atop his onyx throne. Shackles confined the soul that was brought forth to the podium, his arrogance seeping out of him,

“I am no murderer, King of the Underworld. And I am definitely no thief either.” The God’s icy green eyes pierced through the accused,

“So you are saying that you did not peddle your stolen herbs to a child barely into pubescent age, which resulted in his early demise?” He quickly began to lose his temper. He judged countless of newly departed souls and never once bat an eye, but when women and children were involved, not even Bruce could protect them from his rage.

“The boy stole from me! The little vermin took a cornucopia filled with the freshest fruits harvested this season. If you ask me, he should be here, not me.”

“So you poison him?” Jason boomed, his voice carrying through the halls of his temple, startling the sleeping Goddess in her chamber.

“You are hereby sentenced to Tartarus. May the furies decide your fate.” The sound of a grovel alongside the screams of the accused ringed through his ears. He sunk back into his throne and waved his hand to signal that he was finished with judgments today. His court dismissed themselves and left him to diffuse his rage. Unbeknownst to him, the Queen had snuck into the now empty room and hummed a soft melody alerting the brooding King of her presence. He raised his hand from his furrowed face and softened his expression at the sight of her.

“Kory. Did I wake you? I’m sorry my love, you know how court can be.” He stood and bowed his head as if to worship her presence. Since her arrival to his realm, she had been the only person to receive such ‘worship’. The God of the Underworld bowed to no God, no mortal, not even death itself, but the young Goddess was the exception and forever will be. A fond smile appeared at her lips as she mimicked his gesture.

“Shall I bestow wicked dreams upon the man that caused you such anger? Or concoct a toxin from the laborers of our garden?” A deep chuckle grumbled in his throat. Who knew that the virgin Goddess of Spring could be so vengeful? Deep down they both knew that she had always been this way. A beautiful proper lady on the outside, but a burning fire within, secluded until her anger was brought forth.

“Careful Goddess, you are starting to sound like me. I am sorry for waking you though. I know how much you enjoy your slumber.”

“I’d much rather spend the time with you Jay.” Her warm aura filling the room, her touch grazing his hands. It was rare that they were able to spend alone time together.

With Jason’s responsibilities presiding over the Underworld and Kory’s own duties, paired with the fact that Kory was only allowed to remain in Hades for ⅓ of the year, it made private time difficult. Jason often felt guilty for their arrangement. He felt like he was keeping her as a prized pet over wife and equal. Upon her arrival, he had made it his duty to arrange the realm to please her. The souls erected a vast garden in her honor, as well as learnt her customs to make her feel better at home. Loneliness and boredom still plagued the young Goddess as she was isolated from all her friends and favorite pastimes, but her love for Jason outweighed everything. Kory befriended the fates or Rachel as she liked to be called these days and their friendship is what kept her occupied for most of the days.

“I forgot to mention. Bruce sent old Hermes down here with an invitation to his annual gala.”, the fiery haired Goddess spoke gently, not wanting to upset her husband by the mention of his estranged family member.

Bruce or Zeus, whatever he was going by these days, had been Jason’s paternal figure, teaching him the ways of Godhood until the war with the Titans broke out. Coronus had killed Jason who sacrificed himself to save Bruce. Ultimately, Jason was resurrected, but Bruce had damned him into ruling the realm of the Underworld, upset by his kin’s lack of ‘purity’. Thus began the conflict between the two. Jason visibly shuttered at the thought of having to leave the comfort of his realm to socialize with the society that damned him, but he also knew Kory would love to go. Not only would she be reunited with her family and friends, but she flourished at these kinds of events. Her natural charisma charmed the crowds and her beauty was rival to even Aprodite. He sighed knowing that he would swallow his pride and take his beautiful Queen to the gala.

“I will tell Bruce that we will be in attendance.” Once again the Goddess smiled overjoyed at the small gift offered by her husband.

Amber flames from her hair surrounded them, a sign of contentment Jason had learned. Since the first day he laid eyes on her in that flowery meadow, he knew that she was special. That dumb Dick- sorry Apollo, tried to court her first. To think that Bruce actually blessed their union made him sick to his stomach. He could offer her nothing more than his infidelity, yet she played right into his hand. He knew he had to win her over somehow and he would. He waited patiently for the right moment and pounced. He split the Earth in two and emerged from the pits of Hades offering her the keys to his kingdom and something even better… Freedom. And well the rest is history.

“Jay, you spaced out on me again. Hello.” she spoke, waving a hand in front of his face.

“Sorry Kor, I was thinking about how lucky I am to be your husband and have you here by my side. I know I may not always be the best at communicating, but I do love you and I’m so happy that I can share my life with you.”

“I love you, too pretty boy. You taught me what it means to be free, no boundaries, no limits and I am forever grateful.” Their lips met for a passion-filled kiss that left them both dizzy. Jason yearned for his Queen, she was his blessing sent from the Gods above (literally speaking). If you asked the Dark King if he ever pictured this for himself he would’ve said no. He would’ve laughed in your face and sent you to an early demise, but here he stood madly in love with Kory and she with him. If only they had more time.
