Blood pooled around the discarded body. It had been easy for Clint to lure a pretty girl from the bar. Phil had been waiting for him in the abandoned alley, waiting for their prey. They had tried this in their apartment before but cleaning the blood stains was always a pain in the ass.

There was something very pleasurable in sharing food with his mate, thought Clint, licking his lips. He looked at Phil (his Phil, he thought possessively), looking as radiant as ever, not a speck of blood on his white shirt.

They had met around four hundred years ago, when Phil was just turned, not yet accustomed to the ways of the vampires. It had been just him and Tasha before Phil. The moment Clint had set eyes on Phil, he had recognized his mate and then spent more than a decade wooing that mate; he thought with fond smile on his face.

In the early days of their courtship, Phil had been reserved and hesitant but Clint had always been patient with the things that mattered.

Phil took a bit longer to embrace his bloodlust; it was different for him, coming from a family of bakers. Clint had been raised in a Circus of crime; he had killed men even before he had been turned. The circus folks were nothing if not superstitious, acceptance had come easy for Clint. Natasha’s was a different story all together; she had been groomed by vampires from when she was a kid. She along with a few other girls had been trained as assassins before they were turned and sent to do their sire’s bidding. The Red Room cover story was not far off. Clint met Natasha during one of her missions and convinced her to join him, giving her the taste of freedom.

They always went from town to town, leaving after a few years so that no one suspected them of never ageing. It was going to be difficult, he mused to hide from SHIELD, as much as Phil considered Nick Fury a friend he was never going to be trusted with this secret—their secret. Clint reckoned that they would have to fake their deaths in the next five years; moving on to a new place, a fresh start. Maybe he should be a farmer he thought.

Others said that vampires were happy in solitary, but the reality was they just lived too long for them to trust anyone, unable to form connections. Clint was glad he found his family, the three of them against the world.

“Hey fellas”, came Natasha’s voice from behind him, shaking him out of his thoughts. Phil had already taken care of the body when Clint was lost in his thoughts.

“Let’s go home”, said Natasha linking her hands with Phil’s and Clint’s as they walked towards their apartment.
