Chapter 5
She returned to Jake’s room, and when she was in the doorway, he threw the ball at her.
“ thank you.”
“ for what?” Jake asked.
“ for telling me how to trap the wolf.” She gestured to the ball.
“ I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“So, how’d you know it would be that easy, huh? Khonshu told you? Better yet, maybe he was controlling the wolf to just go after Steven. Probably as collateral for Marc disobeying him? You can correct me if I’m mistaken. But I’m not.” She leaned confidently in the doorway, throwing the ball in the air.
“ you think Khonshu would let something that dangerous in here and hurt me?”
She stopped throwing the ball “ but it didn’t, did it? It didn’t even go after you. Even when Steven was hurting it, it kept it gaze on him. It didn’t even go after me and I’m not exactly a light snack for it. So, it was just trying to go after Steven. That’s how you knew Marc wasn’t in danger. Steven wasn’t either, really. Just a little form of lame punishment.”
Jake smiled “ What a good theory.”
“ try to anticipate your opponents moves. Like chess.”
“ we should play some time.”
She nodded “you’d kick my ass.”
He laughed “ I probably would.”
Dawn began to close the door on her way out, but Jake stopped her.
“No, Dawn. I want it open.”
