Chapter 4
'What if I stopped loki from being taken back to asgard?' I thought, 'would that be too much change?'
My tail dangled over the tables edge as I became a 'loaf'. I never really knew why cats did this, but it is extremely comfortable. I did read somewhere they did it to keep warm...
I was too unwrapped in my thoughts to hear much of what was around me. My tail swayed as I felt someone's hand on my back. I placed my head down on the table as it felt like steve, I purred quite loudly in content.
"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Banner said sarcasticly.
"Loki's gonna drag this out." Steve informed, "So, thor, what's his play?"
I looked over at thor, worry etched on his features. His arms crossed as he stood.
"He has an army called the Chitauri." Thor explained, "they're not of Asgard, nor any world known."
I huffed as I moved my way out of steve's touch and jumped down. I didn't like how boring the conversation was. I wanted to see where tony would be. I sneaked my way through doors and past people. I didn't see fury, so I thought that was good. Well, that was until I heard someone clear their throat from behind me.
I jumped as I spun around. I hissed at him, and he had an unreadable expression. He pulled me up by the scruff of my neck, and I went limp. Great, I hate this more than anything.
Fury then walked back to where the rest of the Avengers were, making sure he held me out as long as his arm could reach. I now just wished I had stayed with Tony. Fury pushed me onto one of the agents and told them not to let me out of their sight. He then walked into the room.
"Dr. Banner is only here to track the cube." Fury stated, "I was hoping you might join him."
"I would start with that stick of his." Steve pointed out, "it may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon."
I growled lowly and bit the agents hand so I could get free. I then jumped down and started running to the lab where they would have kept it.
"I don't know about that, but it is powered by the cube." Nick's voice rang out across the ship.
...
I sat at the desk waiting for tony and Bruce to arrive. I sniffed and poked the stone in the septor. I let out a huff as I looked at it from different angles. A strange whisper emanated from it, a low background whisper, but it unsettled me none the less.
The mind stone... I narrowed my eyes at it as I looked at it intently. My red eyes glowed slightly as the stone pulsated a blue glow. I tilted my head as it I was waiting for it to say something, but before I could do anything else, i was swatted away from it by Tony. I jumped down and curled up on the floor under the table. The glowing of the mind stone felt familiar and warm... comforting, but unsettling.
I heard Bruce pull out a hand-held machine that had an orange glow to it. He waved it over the stone in the septor to try and do... something with it? I didn't fully pay attention to what he did in the movie.
"The gamma readings are definitely consistent with selvig's reports of the Tesseract." Banner stated.
Right! Readings.
"But it's going to take weeks to process." Bruce continued.
"If we bypass their mainframe and direct route to the homer cluster, we can clock this at around 600 teraflops." Tony suggested.
Bruce chuckled, "All I packed was a toothbrush."
Tony let out an amused breath, "You know, you should come by stark tower sometime." Tony suggested, "top ten floors, all R&D. You'd love it, it's candyland."
"Thanks, but the last time I was in New York," Banner went on to say, "I kind of broke Harlem."
"Well, I promise a stress-free environment." Tony responded, "no tension, no surprises."
I narrowed my eyes at the object he had in his hands, I growled. He's such a...
Tony then turned around and shocked the banner's side. He jumped as the electricity hit him and muttered an 'OW'. That's when Steve walked in, I would definitely agree with Steve even if I hated to admit it.
"Hey!" Steve yelled as he came over.
"Nothing?" Tony asked as he placed the object down.
"Are you nuts?" Steve asked, exasperated.
"Jury's out." Tony mumbled, "You really have got a lid on it, haven't you? What's your secret?" Tony then continued his yapping, "mellow jazz, bongo drums, huge bag of weed?"
"Is everything a joke to you?" Steve asked.
I huffed, 'Yes, it is. I mean, you in those tights...' I thought because I couldn't actually voice them in this form.
"Funny things are," Tony grumbled.
"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship isn't funny." Steve countered, "no offence, doc."
I hummed in a purr, and I agreed with him on that. Though, I didn't like the way he put it. Banner wasn't exactly dangerous, but Hulk was a liability.
"It's alright, I wouldn't have come aboard if I couldn't handle pointy things." Banner explained.
"You're tiptoeing, big man. You need to strut." Tony said as he moved away from banner.
"And you need to focus on the problem, Mr. Stark." Steve bit back, his expression serious.
"Do you think I'm not?" Stark stated. He did have a thing for multitasking, quite good at it too. "Why did fury call us in? Why now? Why not before? What isnt he telling us?" He questioned.
I really wanted to tell them about the council, or whatever its called, talked to fury. The same people who would have just sent a nuke rather than sort out the battle of new York. I huffed in irritation as all i could do at this moment was wait and watch.
