Chapter 3
It had been six months since Clint had spoken to Phil, since Clint had heard Phil’s voice.
Clint and Natasha had been assigned to help with the repairs and training the baby agents. Fury knew neither of them wanted to be away from Phil.
Clint was sitting by Phil’s side when suddenly the monitor started beeping, the nurses and doctors rushing in.
Clint could not help but feel a slight hope that Phil was about to wake up, he crushed that thought before it could fester. False hope had only led to tears and sleepless nights, he thought.
Clint waited outside for god knows how long before he was called in, he hadn’t even noticed when Nat crept by his side.
Taking a breath Clint braced himself as he entered, his heartbeat rising.
“Clint,” he heard a choked sound; Phil, he was finally awake, Phil was back; Clint would not be alone anymore.
Clint rushed to his bedside, he did not notice the tears running down his cheeks before Phil, with shaky hands wiped a stray tear.
Clint gently rested his head on Phil’s shoulder, feeling his warmth as Phil ran his hand on his back.
“It should be me comforting you”, said Clint pulling away after a while, taking a good look at his beloved’s face.
“I love you”, Clint blurted out, feeling overwhelmed by seeing Phil awake. Phil was going to live, he was alive. Clint was not going to waste this chance; he was going to make Phil feel like the most loved man on earth.
“I love you too Clint”, replied Phil with a smile gracing his face, even like this Phil looked good thought Clint.
Phil let out a yawn, Clint immediately helped him in a sleeping position despite his protests.
“We have forever Phil, rest now”, Clint said and Phil was out in a second.
They had a lot to talk about, Clint’s trauma, Phil’s injury; but all that could wait. All that mattered was Phil was awake now, Clint was never letting go; everything else came latter.
I love you Phil, was the last thought Clint had before he slept peacefully for the first time in months.
