chapter four
Back at the school, something came to my mind, about what the omnitrix had said to me about my powers, so, I excused myself to the bathroom and asked, “Omnitrix, you told me my powers a while back, but what about sticking to walls and spidey sense, don’t I have those too?”
“No, user, these abilities were amongst the ones that were purged by me, due to them having faulty dna”
“Thank you omnitrix, now, let’s get back to class”, I rushed back to class, where the teacher was just explaining that we were going to ride the bus towards Oscorp labs. She did a headcount and once she knew we were all there, we boarded the bus, I sat in the back, next to Peter and Ned, who were talking about something or another, honestly, I didn’t pay it much attention, I was just so amazed for actually landing a date with a beauty like Gwen Stacy. My gaze, every so often, drifted towards Gwen and I couldn’t help but smile, I was so lucky that she accepted my invitation. But that wasn’t important right now. We arrived at Oscorp where the tour guide was waiting for us. She lead us inside and started talking, “Here at Oscorp, we aspire to bring changes in every possible field of science, biology, physics, chemistry, bio engineering, crop modification, medical science and so much more, first on our tour is the robotics department, where we aim to enhance our lives with robotic workers and functional, high-tech prosthetics. Here you can see our newest robot, it may not look like much but it is able to walk on two legs, which is practically unheard of in the scene, it can also do simple motions such as drawing cards from a deck or putting objects from one place to another. Observe the joints, which, due to their robotic nature, have much greater flexibility than the human fingers, though we still have to work out the fine motor skills, this robot is still a bit jerky in its movements, stiff if you will”
“Woah, cool”, Peter muttered, as he took a picture of the bipedal robot which was being moved to walk from side to side.
“Next we have…”
An hour later we finally arrived at the spider exhibit. Peter had been taking pictures of everything up until now and that wasn’t going to change in this exhibit. Peter stood close to the terrariums, taking pictures of the various spiders. Right about now, he should be bitten by a radioactive spider but no matter how hard I focused on him, I didn’t see the spider but that just meant my eyes weren’t all that great. I am sure that it still happened, after all this world needed a spiderman, it was a canon event… though I am not entirely sold on the actual validity of ‘Canon events’ but that was a discussion for another time.
After that, we toured a few more labs before it was finally time for us to leave again, the last lab we went to was the lab of doctor Connors, where he demonstrated for us his new regenerative formula on some mice, who had lost a limb. One injection later and the limb was fully healed, “It is nowhere near the point of human testing but in time, we will have the ability to regenerate almost all limbs”
Something that I noticed was that this Doctor Conners had both his arms… strange, that was different from how I remembered it but some variations are to be expected, after all, this world wasn’t the same as any other world, it wasn’t any of the worlds I recognised.
Back on the bus, I asked Peter, “So, parker, what was your favorite exhibit?”
“Oh- em- I- I think dr Conners’ exhibit was fascinating, the ability to regrow lost limbs is something that would help many people and would improve many lives”, he told me, “B- but why are you asking me this, I don’t even know you”
“Ouch, that hurt, Parker, I sit behind you in maths, we even worked on a history assignment together”, I told him, though of course he didn’t remember, I was just a background character after all.
“Really-? I don’t remember that at all… wait… Star? Alex Star? Weren’t we in the same kindergarten together? G- good to see you again”, Peter looked like he had just had an epiphany, “What was your favorite exhibit, then?”
“I don’t quite know… it is either the spider exhibit or the robotics exhibit, you know, the one lead by doctor Octavious, I just find robotics and other machinery fascinating, you know, I am starting my own app company, I am currently working on my first game”, I told peter, smiling at him.
“Really? That is so cool! What kind of game will you make? How will you finance it? What-”
“Woah, Peter, calm down”, Ned interrupted his rambling, “We have to go out now, it is our stop”
“oh… okay”, he looked dejected, “see you tomorrow at school”
“See ya!”, I waved to them as they left the bus.
When I arrived at my place, I went inside and continued coding as grey matter.
The next day, at school, I checked in on Peter but to my surprise, I didn’t see any outstanding changes to his physique, like I did to mine. I just shrugged it off though and just assumed that his spider worked different than mine. After all, the omnimatrix said that my spider would’ve given me more arms and fangs and his spider obviously didn’t do that, so I just chucked it up to different spiders.
Over the next few days, I finished coding candy crush and was ready to release it, now all I had to do was wait for the company to be registered. So, that thursday, I walked over to the local dump and got ready to test my new spider powers. My web fluid shot out of my wrists at command, they were durable and seemed to continue sticking for up to two hours. My strength was by far the most outstanding quality of my new body. I could -with some difficulty- lift ten tons worth of scrap metal. My strength also allowed me to bend metal like it was nothing and punch through massive stone, it truly was an upgrade. Now, with my new powers and the omnitrix combined, I would be unstoppable, at least until the heavy hitters like hulk would start appearing.
