Pinball wizards
Ok so when Penny first asked Ocean on a date, she truthfully didn't have an idea on where to take her. She didn't plan that far.
If anything, she didn't make a plan because she expected to get rejected, yet, here she is; sitting on the bus on the way to the mall to meet up with her... Well... They weren't girlfriends per se but they definitely weren't just friends. They hadn't kissed but they were literally going on a date so?
Ok, Penny was on the bus to meet her date and go to the arcade with her.
"Play it cool" she kept reminding herself as she thanked the bus driver and walked to the meeting spot they promised to be at.
"Hi!" Ocean said as she pulled Penny into a hug. It had a slightly awkward air but that's expected isn't it?
"Hi Oce!" Penny said, smiling and taking Ocean's hand (something slightly less awkward as they did that before Penny asked her out) and walking into the arcade.
It was probably the one of the best places in the town to be honest. They arrived just after seven so all the younger kids will be leaving soon meaning they'll probably also get more time on the machines. The heat was blasting (thank god, mid-January Canada isn't exactly the warmest place in the world) and the game tokens were around a dollar per 10.
The two girls put their money together and bought 100 tokens in total, so needless to say, they were going to be here for a while.
Penny was focused most on tickets though, as the best prize was an absolutely huge teddy for 50 thousand tickets. Penny wouldn't be happy until she saw Ocean leave the arcade with that fucking overly-sized bear in her arms.
They started off pretty basic on the spinny-ticket game so they could get a good start on tickets (didn't really work out, Penny won 4 and Ocean won 50) so they decided that was a scam and went for something easier.
Meaning the basketball game was next. Penny was amazing at basketball in PE, but this was only because she was tall and able to get to the basket easier and closer, so being the same distance from it made it increasingly difficult.
Ocean's math somehow came into play and got her to win the friendly competition, giving her 67 baskets as Penny only got 43.
"Hey! You cheated!" Penny teaser, folding her tickets and putting them in her pockets.
"Nah, I just used math!"
"Math?"
"Yeah? Once you realize the distance you can know how fast you need to throw it as to not miss the basket! Then-"
Penny shut Ocean up by kissing her softly.
"Come on Oce, it's a Saturday, take a break from math, yeah?" Penny smiled slightly at the sight of Ocean standing there, dumbfounded and blushing like an idiot.
Their first kiss.
Honestly, even if it was just for two or three seconds, Penny had to admit she loved it. Something about kissing Ocean just felt so... Natural. And that was incredible.
"Whatever" Ocean laughed putting her folded up tickets into her pockets before taking Penny's hand and taking her to a game she called 'easy money': the shitty flappy bird machine.
Granted, she wasn't wrong. They both put in 10 tokens each, giving them 20 goes each. They probably left that game with the most tickets. Around 21 thousand (21, 367 to be precise) so, they were well on their way to that teddy.
They played more and more games throughout the day, including 5 (rigged) claw machines, which always picked the item up, but would then have it slip out before it could get dropped into the exit.
Eventually, it led to Penny tipping the machine as she kept lookout for any workers (the only worker that saw was a sixteen year old who would probably be anywhere but work, so Penny and them made eye contact before the worker brushed it off. Honestly, worst things could be happening).
Ocean won a cruddy teddy which looked like a bit of those valentines bears you see in February, holding a pink heart.
Ocean kissed Penny on the cheek before she handed it to her. Now it was Penny's turn to be flustered as she blushed brightly and graciously took the teddy that was handed to her.
"Now look who's blushing" Ocean teased, poking Penny on the shoulder before they walked hand in hand to the other games.
These games went fast, some weird piano tiles rip off which got them a few thousand more tickets. Along with a Mario Kart game and air hockey including a few more rounds at the ticket spinner.
This left them at 32,000 tickets exactly. Still a long way off their goal. They had around six tokens left at this point, and Penny was silently panicking she wouldn't be able to get Ocean that teddy.
Then, Penny spotted a game that her and Ezra were surprisingly good at playing (cheating at) in the corner, pinball. This game could get them at LEAST 8 thousand tickets. Well, thats if they used a singletokens as the highest score got 8 thousand tickets at most per game.
"Come on Oce, let's go to pinball! Even if we don't win I know how to cheat!" Penny smiled
"Penny, we are winning fairly"
"But please!"
"Fine. Only because you're so pretty" Ocean smiled, kissing Penny's cheek again before walking to the machine and allowing Penny to do her thing.
Well, she wasn't wrong, Penny definitely knew how to cheat alright. She was shaking the machine so drastically that Ocean thought she might drop it and they'd be forced to pay compensation to the poor arcade owners.
Thankfully, that didn't happen and they left that game with the 8 thousand tickets. Only 10 thousand more tickets until Penny's goal.
They decided to try their luck with the ticket spinner one last time with their last five tokens.
First token was Ocean and she won a respectable 1000.
Penny then went and she won 500.
Ocean also won 500.
Penny won 3 thousand.
This is it, the last token. They need the 7 thousand ticket roll, which is probably impossible because of the incredibly thin line it was on between two 4s. This was incredibly low.
Penny inserted the token and watched it spin and how it slowed down.
It was slowly stopping and it was now incredibly slow on the 4.
Fantastic. Great, Ocean won't get it.
However, it just narrowly moved past and they did it. 7 thousand tickets.
They did it! 50 thousand!
Penny told Ocean to close her eyes as she spent the tickets. Ocean only Opened them again when Penny was holding a massive teddy, taller than her.
"Oh my gosh" Ocean said loudly once she saw what it was and she pulled Penny in for a kiss. A proper one. One where the cold breeze of the night didn't matter anymore as the warmth of each other's bodies acted as a heaters against each other. The snow falling around them, perfectly resting on the ginger eyelashes of the freckled face of Ocean O'Connell Rosenberg.
Personally, I say the date went pretty well.
