The art and the Artist
Ricky loves drawing. He loves being able to forget who he is for a good few hours as music blasts through his ears and his pencil never leaves his sketchpad. The only thing he loved more than drawing was his parents and his best friend. Penny Lamb.
---
That's why her birthday present to him was his favorite, a new sketchpad, some coloured markers and pencils, and some proper artist pencils. He was more than thankful he opened in one on one with her in his bedroom or everyone would have seen him almost sob out of excitement.
"Oh my god, Penny this is so cool! Oh my god thank you!" he signed quickly before pulling her into a tight embrace. One they could have both leaned into for hours, in fact, they did, drifting to sleep peacefully. This did not help his crush on her one bit
---
Ricky sat at his desk after school, not even changed out of his uniform, the sketchpad sat in front of him as he brainstormed what to draw, god damn art block always appears at the worst point. That's when it hit him, how about he draws something for Penny as a thank you!
He spent hours on it, his earphones definitely causing some sort of damage at this point. He looked at his drawing proudly.
Penny's favourite doll sat up on a countee next to Ricky's favorite cat, honestly, did it look more lovey than something a friend would do, but Penny was quite oblivious to people flirting with her specifically, but if someone flirts with someone else she'll be all over it.
---
For the first time in a while, Ricky was excited to go to school. He had the drawing neatly folded in the front pocket of his bag, just being unable to wait for when he sees her.
He saw her walk through the doors of choir and his face lit up immediately as he rummaged through his bag to find the drawing.
He tapped Penny's shoulder and excitedly watched as her face lit up as her eyes scanned the page.
"Holy shit, did you draw this?" Penny asked, staring in awe at the drawing.
"Yeah, look it's your Jane doll with Freddie Meow-cury!" Ricky signed, to which Penny hugged him tighter than ever.
---
After school, Penny came over, just to watch Ricky draw. She watched closely as Ricky drew every detail so dearly. Another drawing of one of Penny's dolls and one of his cats.
He gleefully handed her the drawing a few hours later. Penny had the same reaction as before.
"Ricky, I could watch you draw for hours" Penny said.
"Well you just did" Ricky signed whilst laughing.
"Really? Feels shorter with you. Anyway, I love this drawing so much, I have to go so I'll see you tomorrow yeah?" Penny said, Ricky tried so hard to not blush at every compliment. He watched Penny leave as he sat on his bed, wondering if he'd ever confess to her.
So, he decided his next drawing would be something slightly different. Both of them, with a heart in the middle. Was it obvious? Yes, a hundred percent. But, Ricky could literally cover a page with 'I like you' written all over it and she still wouldn't get the hint.
---
The next few weeks were spent with Ricky slowly adding more and more sweet details, more loveable details. So much so that Constance saw one and asked if Ricky had confessed to her. She was actually surprised when he said no.
Penny proudly kept every drawing on her desk or wall at home, showing the wall off to Ricky when he went over. The first drawing stood out, it was in a bright purple frame, different from the others that were hung up neatly with thumbtacks.
"Holy shit, you did this? " Ricky's device echoed around her room.
"Yeah! You're drawings were just too cool to not show off" Penny said. Ricky was trying to not draw attention to the fact that her hand was resting on his knee.
"Thanks" Ricky replied, lying down on Penny's bed, tracing the lace outline of Penny's blanket with his fingers.
"Why did you start drawing for me?" Penny asked sincerely as she made eye contact with Ricky.
"You bought me the sketchpad and I wanted to make you a gift, I couldn't believe how much you liked it" Ricky signed, not being bothered to get his iPad that had his text to speech on it.
"Liked it? Ricky I loved it! Your drawing skills are so good it's insane! You should make money off of it!" Penny excitingly said, Ricky blushed at the compliments.
"Do you want to know why I drew them? Like the real reason?" Ricky asked, feeling bold.
"Of course!"
"I like you Penny. So god damn much. Not even in a friend way. A love way, I really like you. Even if you don't like me back, I just wanted you to know" Ricky admitted in one quick sign, so quick even Penny had to take a minute to understand what he just signed.
Penny sat there for a moment, surprised, yet absolutely ecstatic. She's loved Ricky for so long you dont even know.
"I love you too, you're such an adorable little dork that it's hard for me not too" Penny admitted, turning red as she moved some of Ricky's hair out of his face.
"Can i?" Ricky asked, staring at Penny's lips.
Penny nodded, smiling wider than what is probably normally possible.
She smiled even more when her lips met Ricky's. A spark burst between the two of them. A feeling of love and joyus affection rushed through the blood stream of both teens as Ricky put his hand on Penny's face before leaving the kiss. Staring at Penny as if she was the only thing on earth.
"Out of all my drawings, you're my best piece of art" Ricky signed, to which Penny laughed slightly.
"God you're so corny" she laughed. Ricky just smiled as they kissed again. Probably the best moment of his life by far. God does he love this girl.
