Summary
Sent on a mission the X-Men needed an unkillable target for, Wade finds a cryogenically frozen Bucky Barnes, so he brings him back to the X-Men facility where he's fixed up by Charles Xavier, befriending Wade, truth be told he saw the mercenary as a son of sorts. When Wade's boyfriend Peter comes to visit months later, Bucky asks if he lives in the same building as Captain America, needing to know if his old heart was safe. Reassured that Steve is still breathing, he asks to go back with Peter when he's going back to the Avengers Tower, which is where he is reunited with the love of his life, landing him back in Steve Rogers' arms.
Note
A/N: This was an old fic I found squirrelled away on my old USB that I fixed up in the last few days, I hope you enjoy it!

The X-Men had finally started letting Wade go on solo missions after the last team mission was a total and utter disaster (but hey, that shitshow hadn’t been his fault, or not entirely anyways).

HYDRA, the clusterfuck of still functioning shady, maybe modern Nazi scientists that absolutely shouldn’t exist in the 21st century, were still working on projects and experiments to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s, the Avengers and the X-Men’s disappointment and disdain.

So, of course they had sent Wade to see what was going down, since he couldn’t die, it was pretty safe to assume that if HYDRA did capture him, he’d be fine in a few days. It had been Wolverine’s idea, who had suggested that either he or Wade go.

So here he was, in an old HYDRA warehouse he had gotten the coordinates of from Professor X himself, thanks to his powers. The place radiated shady vibes, major horror movie moment and he wasn’t so sure he was a final girl or not.

He was looking around and found a chamber with some guy lying in it, so he picked the guy up, talking to him, “Not only would my boyfriend fucking kill me for leaving you here, it would be pretty shitty of me, and I’m trying to do better so, let’s go my metal armed friend.” He called Dopinder to ask for a ride, who brought him back to the X-Men facility, where he shoved his new friend into one of the spare rooms and had Professor X look over him.

Hours later, the professor had wheeled out of the room and went over to the mercenary, tapping him gently as he spoke, “Wade, your friend has been healed. He was programmed by an organisation called HYDRA, under something called the Winter Soldier scheme. I’ve healed him and restored his memories, but he could use a friend. He…he remembers you talking to him.” he told him gently.

He nodded, “I got it, I’ll go talk to him.” He got up and smiled at the professor, “Thanks, doc. He seems like a good guy.” he nodded and walked off to the brunet’s room.

He knocked and called out, “One armed Johnny? It is I, your valiant rescuer.” he playfully greeted.

Bucky snorted, getting up to open the door, “Look pal, I get you don’t know my name, but ‘one armed Johnny’ ? Really?” he sighed and nodded to him, “My name is Bucky, well no, it’s actually James, but most people call me Bucky.”

Wade grinned at him, “Okay, and now I know your name, so I don’t need to call you one-arm Johnny anymore. I’m Wade Wilson.” He told him with a grin, already feeling somewhat a level of kinship between the two of them, it was a weird feeling, but it was giving him warm fuzzies, so he figured, fuck it, and let it be.

Bucky asked, rubbing his right, flesh arm anxiously, “What year is it, and where the hell are we?” You didn’t have to be a genius to see the panic in Bucky’s eyes, he was in a strange place, and the last thing he remember was falling off of that goddamned train and falling to HYDRA’s grimy hands.

Wade inhaled dramatically, scratching his chin comically, looking confusedly with a slightly tilted head at him, “Oh boy, you’re pretty scrambled up there, huh buddy? It’s 2016 and this is the X-Men facility, a place where mutants go, you know, people who have powers, either since birth or not.” he explained casually.

Bucky’s entire face spoke of shock and fear, but he mumbled, letting out a low whistle, “Well, shit.” He asked, more so out of curiosity than anything, the kid reminded him of himself, he knew the guy wasn’t a kid, but he was a hundred and then some years old, everyone was a kid to him, “So, what can you do?”

Wade smirked, pretty chipper about being able to explain his abilities, honestly just glad to talk to someone who didn’t tell him to shut his cakehole after talking for twenty minutes for once, “I can’t die, I’m pretty good with guns and I’m awesome with swords and knives.” he rattled off with a bit of pride. Then, he tilted his head again, looking confused as he asked the brunet, “They had you all boxed up like a Ken doll, are you okay?”

Bucky panicked as he asked, wrenching his hands together, asking in a tiny voice, “That’s awesome and everything kid, but I need to know, is Captain America still alive?”

Steve, that had been his last sight before HYDRA got their filthy mitts on him, Steve looking utterly heartbroken, likely thinking him dead. He was desperate to know if his lover was still alive, he didn't know what the hell that that serum of Steve's was capable of, but he wanted, no needed to see Steve.

Wade laughed, smacking his arm good-naturedly, wondering why the guy was wired so tight like a slinky about this, “Fuck, buddy, don’t look so down! Cap’s all well and fine, he works with my boyfriend actually.” he replied with a sappy smile, he was proud of his sweet spider for getting to sit at the table with the rest of the Avengers, even if he thought the spider was better than anyone and deserved only the best.

Bucky blinked slowly, breathing as evenly as he could, it was still pretty ragged, but he tried to calmly ask, his voice cracking anyways, “Stevie’s okay? Oh, thank god.”

He slowly calmed down, taking a few deep breaths before he thought of something, and then hesitantly asked, “Is…is it still illegal to be gay? Or has the world gotten off its ass yet?”

The merc with a mouth laughed, “Illegal to be gay? Holy shit, you sound like Cap now– Oh shit . You’re from his time, aren’t you, Bucky? That’s cool because I bet you two were total besties way back in the forties!” he exclaimed, realising what was going on.

Bucky chuckled, a coy smile slipping onto his lips at the fact Wade only seemed to have caught on now that he was an old timer, “Only got that now? Yeah, me and Stevie were best pals, but we were also in love.” he smiled a little, a ghost of a sappy smile. He usually wouldn't be so point blank about his and Steve's relationship, but he trusted the kid to keep this on the down-low.

“Holy fucking rainbow rolls, you were Captain America’s boyfriend? I mean, shit, I’m dating a superhero too, but still! That’s so fucking awesome. I’m so fucking glad I rescued you.” Wade exclaimed, not believing his ears but  then did, and was super excited that he finally did something that would be seen as ‘right’ or ‘just’ by the Avengers, not because he sought their approval, fuck no, this was him being a spiteful little shit at it’s finest.

He figured he should ramble about his sweet spidery boyfriend a little, since he hadn’t told Bucky enough about Peter. A few weeks went by, the two becoming good friends, Bucky, who had never thought he’d have a family, kind of saw Wade as a kid to him, but kept that to himself, mostly..

Peter came to visit his boyfriend one Thursday afternoon, being invited into the X-Men’s facility by a smiling Storm, he spotted Wade, and without so much as another thought, he literally launched himself at his boyfriend’s open arms, not having seen him in over a fortnight because of a mission he had to do with the Avengers out of town. Wade had seen him and had opened his arms, mid-conversation as an invitation.

Peter catapulted himself into the taller man’s arms, grinning at him as he greeted him, “Hey, darling! I missed you.” Peter snuggled close to Wade as strong arms immediately picked him up.

Wade, who had been halfway through explaining the idea of a microwave oven to Bucky, since they were in the kitchen, stopped in his tracks and hugged his boyfriend tightly, picking him up on instinct and spinning him around in a Disney movie worthy motion, “It’s good to have you back in my arms, sugarplum. I missed you so much, mi amor. This is Bucky, a friend of mine.” he introduced without putting the shorter man down.

Peter had been about to kiss Wade, but stopped at the mention of company and blushed, looking at Bucky, “Hey, it’s nice to meet you. I’m-”

Bucky put up his newly programmed left hand as if to say ‘stop’ as he interrupted him, “Thanks, but I know who you are, your boyfriend loves talking about you, it’s real sweet.” He’d befriended Hank McCoy, who had re-programmed his arm with the help of Gambit, he liked that crazy son of a bitch too, he was funny.

Bucky stretched and smirked at Wade knowingly, he told the younger lovers, “I’ll leave you two crazy kids alone to be in love, but I do have a question for Peter first, if that’s okay?” he asked, plan in place to get back to his own lover’s arms.

Wade stuck his tongue out at the older man who had seriously become very paternal over him (which he wasn’t sure what to make of, but he thought it was sweet and he definitely wasn't complaining at finally having a dad that gave a shit about him, hell even one who seemed to care about him).

Wade grinned as he sassed his father figure gleefully, “Thanks, Sarge. Me and Petey haven’t seen each other in over a week and I start to miss his pretty face after like, twenty minutes.”.

The spider grinned at Wade, pecking his cheek, “I like talking about you too, you know. I’ve basically driven the team crazy ranting about you at two in the morning. It’s adorable that you’ve talked a lot about me, honey.” Peter fondly teased him as he sported a teasing grin. He looked to Bucky and replied, “Sure, go ahead.”

Bucky took a deep breath, psyching himself up to ask something extremely important to him, “It’s actually two questions, Peter. Do you happen to live in the same building as Captain America, and if so, would you mind bringing me back there when you go?”

The brunet looked at the older man as if to ask ‘what?’ but didn’t want to seem nosy, so he simply answered him, “Yeah, I live in a place called the Avengers Tower. The Avengers are a team of super-powered individuals who fight crime and help people, I’m one of them too, but I can’t disclose who I am.”

Peter couldn’t help himself, he had to know, so he asked curiously, “About bringing you back there, sure but also, why?”

Bucky sighed at having to explain himself, but he simply told him, “Sounds like the punk I used to know, starting a movement like that and all... I’m a pal of his from the forties and I’d like to see him again.”

Realising he hadn’t said anything on how heartwarming it was to him to see a pair of lovers so like him and his sweetheart get to be so in love and not have a soul say a word to them, he looked at Peter as he nodded, “Also, I’m glad you’ve got Wade, he’s a good kid.”

Wade explained to his boyfriend who looked quite confused, “Sorry sweetie, I should really explain and I will, cupcake.” He pressed a kiss to his forehead and explained, “Bucky here has kind of taken me under his wing as a son of sorts, which is nice, because he’s been more fatherly than my own dad ever was, then again, that dickwad was a fucking bum, but still. It’s something.”

The mercenary smiled but then turned to Bucky, “What did I say about internalising your past pre-conceived homophobia, old man?” he chided, he would have flicked him too, if his arms hadn’t been full with his adorable boyfriend.

Bucky chuckled at this and rolled his brown eyes, thanks to Charles, they were back to their original colour, “Alright kid, you’ve got me. I need to stop doing that kind of shit, because it ain’t good. Anways Peter, I’m actually your captain’s old sweetheart back when men weren’t supposed to have male sweethearts.” Bucky explained to the confused younger man.

Peter looked kind of blown away with the realisation but asked softly, “Kind of like with me and Tony? If so, that’s healthy and I’m happy for you, honey. It’ll help you, I know it will.” he kissed his cheek with a sunny smile.

He then looked at Bucky, squinting at him as he slowly told him, “Cap’s very closed off about his past but last pride month, he looked...kind of depressed when someone asked why he was wearing this nice bi flag shirt, but when Thor asked him if he had a partner, he literally broke down crying and went to his room. I actually think that’s the only time I’ve seen him cry.”

Bucky arched an eyebrow in curiosity, frustrated that he didn’t know what that was as he asked, “What the hell is pride month? Also, yeah Stevie probably just missed me. God, I know I’ve missed him, without realising it because of those assholes who trapped me in my own goddamn mind.” he snarled the last few words of that sentence.

Wade’s jaw dropped open, honestly shell-shocked that his fatherly friend hand’t heard of pride, “Fuck, you don’t know about pride month?! No wonder they called it the Great Depression, Jesus fuck, that’s just…fucked up.”

Bucky chuckled a little as he explained calmly, “Wade, kid, buddy, it was nineteen-forties. It was illegal to be gay in any way, shape, or form. Stevie’s lucky because he could get away with it, since he likes both guys and dolls, but not me.”

Wade looked absolutely shocked, as he exclaimed, visibly angry, “Thos motherfuckers! The museum that shows the lives of you and Cap, it mentions nothing even slightly homoerotic. This is fucking blasphemy. Okay, I don’t know about you, dad but I’m pissed off now.” he didn’t realise he had called him ‘dad’.

Bucky smiled softly at him, his tone fond but firm as he explained, “Kid, they don’t give a shit. They want their pretty little picturesque version of events.” He smiled smugly at Wade, nodding to him, “And by the way, I accept you as my son, kid. You’re a good kid, and your boyfriend seems like one too.”

He nodded to Peter, “Either of you let me know when Peter’s going back, if that’s alright?” he asked, he looked at the younger men fondly.

Wade nodded to him, “Those fuckers are trash and sure, I’ll let you know when I’m taking Petey-pie back to the Tower. Hey, I’ll even drive us, that’ll be totally fun.” he grinned at the idea, his idea was to take a car and drive to the tower, intending to ignore Logan’s words of hate.

Bucky gave him a wry smile, “Kid, what did that wolf guy that's friends with Xavier say about you driving again? To me, it sounded something like ‘don’t fucking drive ever again’” Bucky warned him, knowing that it wasn’t wise to fuck with Wolverine.

Wade pouted dramatically but then agreed, “Fineee. Then how are we getting back to the Tower, pops?” He used that term purely to be annoying, because he thought he knew it would work, since it struck him that Bucky woulnd’t like being called that.

Bucky laughed loudly, amusement in his voice as he told them, “Save that for someone else, I’m better to be known as your dad, thanks and I’ll drive. I can borrow one of Hank’s trucks and say we’re going for a drive or something.” he suggested, already headed in the direction of the garage where a small assortment of vehicles were kept.

Wade smirked at him as he replied smugly, “You know what, dad? That’s fine, I’ll keep that for my other dad, I’m sure he’ll be so fucking happy to see you. Okay, me and Petey are headed to my room now, so byeeee!” he waved with one hand, going to walk away with Peter, who left by saying, "See you soon, Bucky."

Bucky had to catch his breath so it would function properly as he replied, his heart hammering in his chest as he let out a low whistle, “Easy, kid. I haven’t seen my sweetheart in a long, long time and he might have someone else or might not want me, not after what I’ve done.” he replied dejectedly, knowing that his work as a Winter Soldier would probably disgust Steve.

Or at least, that's what kept him up at night thinking, amongst other things. The merc he had taken under his wing had been great company for that, watching movies with him and catching him up on a bunch of things he'd missed out on.

Peter told him with a sunny smile, “Nope, he’s single and I think, now that we’ve met, pining over you because he thinks you’re dead. He’ll be so happy when he sees you’re okay, that he’ll probably just kiss you without thinking. At least, that's what I would do if it were me and Wade, so I think it might be something similar.”

Bucky laughed self-depreciatively as he snarked, “Sure Peter, sure. Anyways, you go have fun.” he smirked, knowing that the two of them probably were about to go do a bit more than kiss.

“Oh fuck, it looks like self-hate runs in my family, Petey-pie.” Wade told him softly, understanding the whole self-hatred thing all too well. The boxes wouldn’t let him forget that he was a worthless, nothing, waste of space sometimes, but Peter had slowly gotten him to forget than and tell them to fuck off.

Bucky made himself busy in the garage, where he found Hank working away, so he chatted to him a bit, also working on a car while he chatted, the truck he’d picked out to drive back to wherever his heart was hiding in some tower.

He finished explaining to Hank, “So, after seventy fucking years, I’m going to see the love of my life again.”

Hank, who had befriended the assassin in his first few days of staying with them, let out a low whistle, “Damn, that’s…a lot, James. Will you be okay?” he asked, mixing chemicals for his latest invention, keeping a careful eye on the arm he had completely re-wired for the brunet’s safety and sound of mind.

The brunet chuckled lowly, “I’ve told you a thousand times, that it’s Bucky, Dr. McCoy.” he snarked, checking the petrol was all set up ready to go, and that the engine was running smoothly. He had read a few books on car engineering and found he was alright at it.

“Fine, okay Bucky , will you be okay?” Hank rephrased with a roll of his eyes.

The brunet thought for a second and nodded, “As long as I see Stevie, I’ll be just swell.”

He checked everything over and the truck was ready for the road, but he knew Wade and Peter wouldn’t be nearly ready to leave, so he said his goodbye to Hank and went for a walk around the grounds of the X-Men facility, it was a pretty nice place and it was good to see the kids laughing and learning.

About an hour later, he got a text from Wade, on the phone the merc had so kindly gifted him, which read, ‘We’re ready to go now, dad’ with a grinning face. Wade had shown him how to read the texts but not how to answer them yet, so he headed back to the X-Men facility, going down to the garage and getting the keys for the truck, getting in and beeping the horn.

Wade came out in a bright pink Hello Kitty hoodie with Peter in his arms, wearing a similar looking hoodie. He got into the truck and made sure the spider was clipped in safely before checking his own.

Then he greeted Bucky, fondly teasing him, “Didn’t I teach you how to answer texts, old man?”

The older brunet started driving as he replied, “No kid, you didn’t but I’m sure someone at the tower can. Speaking of, I need directions.”

Peter laughed softly as he gave instructions to the tower, between being given encouraging little kisses from his boyfriend, and when they reached there, he noticed the outline of an Iron Man suit flying onto the roof. He mumbled, “Dad’s home.”

Wade kissed his cheek reassuringly as he murmured, “Cheer up, cutie-patootie, at least he can’t say shit to you about me when the main focus will be on Cap and my old man.”

They headed inside after Peter nodded.

Bucky was nervous, because not once had he told Wade how desperate he was to get back to Steve, but it didn’t matter because he was going to see those assuring, comforting blue eyes again, that smile that made him light up like a goddamn Christmas tree and those small hands that could fit into the darndest of places which certainly was used to peak advantage.

He’d had a hair cut earlier that week and now had short hair again, so he knew he would be recognised, and Wade had thankfully brought him shopping to get clothes that didn’t scream ‘assassin’. He had dark wash jeans on now, with a dark denim jacket, he’d kept his dog tags because he had Steve’s too, and a plain white t-shirt that he thought was pretty nice but also because he'd seen blue, green, and purple stripes on it, which Wade had thought was funny as anything because as it turns out, it was the male gay pride flag colours. He also wore  combat boots he thinks the merc he felt paternal over had called ‘Doc Martens’.

He couldn’t help feeling like a soldier coming home from the front lines, and it was making him want to cry. He walked into the Tower’s sitting room and almost fell over his own feet at the sight that met him.

Steve was doing dishes in the kitchen because it was his turn to clear the sink, after a huge fight among his teammates about it, a roster was set up for a fair representation of who did the dishes. He was dressed pretty casually in sweatpants, an old t-shirt and high tops.

He felt something shoot down his spine and turned around slowly, putting down the tea towel and plate in his hands so not to break the plate. He felt the oxygen leave his lungs because standing there in the kitchen, was his boyfriend. His presumed dead boyfriend who had fallen off of the train so, so long ago.

Steve, in his usual ‘act first, think later’ mentality sprinted over to the brunet, wrapping his arms around him tightly, asking in a tiny voice that cracked in a few places, “Buck…? Is that really you?”

Bucky held onto him like a lifeline, hugging him close, burying his face in soft blond hair he had missed achingly so. He just about spoke around the lump in his throat, breathless and having no idea what to do, “Yeah Stevie, it’s me. Oh, god…I’ve missed you so much, sweetheart.”

Steve spoke softly but still struggled with his words, “Oh, Buck.... Babydoll, I’ve missed you too, so much, so goddamn much.”

Oh god, that name hit him like a two-tonne bag of bricks, he didn’t even realise he was crying, not until Steve was rubbing soothing circles into his back.

“Hey, hey, it’s okay, darling. I’ve got you and you’re here in my arms where no one’s going to hurt you ever again.” Steve gently crooned into the brunet’s ear reassuringly.

Bucky melted into the embrace, “HYDRA got me, Stevie. They got their filthy fucking claws in me and turned me into a killing machine. This guy, Wade, found me when I was under cryogenic stasis and rescued me, taking me back to the X-Men facility where they fixed up my brain as good as they could. I got to know him…and now I kind of see him as a son.” he blushed, kind of flustered, but the blond had that effect on him, and he knew that he had the same effect on Steve too, they were equals in every way they could be.

Steve kissed his forehead gently, still rubbing circles into his back, “Wade Wilson is the reason you’re back in my arms? Well, I’ll be damned. He kind of reminded me of you a little, at times, you know darling. You’re not as loud and open like him, but you’re both pretty crass and sarcastic.” Steve playfully jibed.

The captain gave him a little toothy grin as he continued to speak, “Oh, babydoll… I’m sorry that you had to kill for them, that’s not right and they shouldn’t have made you do that, but they’re monsters in my opinion and they damn well better be in yours too.” he poked his side.

Bucky laughed a little, slowly smiling at him, “Yeah, the kid is why I’m back here where I belong, sweetheart. And I’m glad he reminded you of me, but not too much.”

He then softly spoke, pain in his tone, “They are monsters, stars and stripes. They used electricity to brainwash me.” He didn’t say it, but you could hear it in his tone that he thought he was a monster too.

Steve held him close to his own body, “No one reminded me purely of you because no one ever will, babydoll and that’s a promise.” he kissed his lips softly, just a peck.

He added, hearing the fact Bucky saw himself as a monster in his tone and wanting to nip that in the bud, “I’m glad you see them as monsters but I want to go and punch their lights out for laying a finger on my best guy and I’m irritated because I can’t do that.” he grimaced, holding him all the tighter.

Steve unwound one arm from around him, cupping his face and telling him, “You’re not a monster, you know.” he murmured, but added, “You’re perfect, to me, anyways.”

Bucky couldn’t help but laugh a little, teasing his boyfriend, leaning close to him, “You wouldn’t be you if you didn’t want to punch their lights out, sweetheart.”

He then added, nuzzling his shoulder a little, “I’m safe now, back in your arms and not leaving ever again....and me, perfect? I ain’t perfect, sugar.”

Steve shook his shoulders, looking at him meaningfully, “Goddamn right you are and hey, if you’re not perfect, neither am I. We both are, or neither of us are, handsome.”

Bucky wet his lips by licking them as he looked at him softly, “...Okay, that’s so unfair of you, but okay.” Then, he shyly asked, “The kid told me that you guys have rooms to yourselves—”

Steve cut him off, kissing his lips, unable to stop himself. He had always been impulsive and headstrong, especially when it came to Bucky.

He didn’t deepen the kiss and replied, his voice soft and warm, trying to assure the brunet that he was wanted around, needed even, “There’s no question about that, you’re staying in my room with me, babydoll. I want to hold you tight at night and fall asleep with your head on my shoulder, your hair in my face when I wake up.” he breathed into his ear.

Then he nodded in agreement, “Damn right, you’re not leaving my arms again. I was traumatised when I saw you fall, I just thought you were dead, babydoll. Oh, I know it’s unfair, but it got you to agree, didn’t it?” Steve grinned cheekily at him.

Bucky wrapped his arms around him tightly, not scared about his vibranium arm startling his lover at the moment, “No sweetheart, I’m better than I was after Wade found me, but before that, I was basically a marionette for HYDRA, all the scientist had to do was say the trigger words to start the programming, with the electroshocks and there you have it  I did exactly as those fuckers told me to.” he bit his lip and looked into the blond’s eyes, “They made me do things I ain’t proud of, Stevie and ever since I got my memories back, I’ve been scared you won’t want me back...” he gazed at his shoes.

Steve gritted his teeth in anger and frustration, as he answered him, shocked at the fact HYDRA had used electroshocks on his boyfriend, “They shocked you with electricity? Those assholes! I swear to God, if I ever find them, they’ll wish they hadn’t hurt a goddamn hair on your head, babydoll.” He hugged him close, letting go with one arm to cup his face gently with one hand, still small despite his otherwise serum enhanced body, “Darling, no matter what, even if you did whatever horrible things you did, you didn’t do it. HYDRA ordered you to do it, made you do it like a puppet. This isn’t your fault and I promise I’m not leaving you because of it.” He kissed his forehead gently, “Of course I want you back, darling.”

Bucky looked into those adoring, reassuring blue eyes looking lovingly at him, listening to his words attentively until he replied, resting his forehead on his cheek, “Thank you... Thank you, Stevie. I was having a hard time wrapping my head around believing that." he chuckled, but it was humourless.

He pressed a soft kiss to his lips as he replied, tears falling down is face at the realisation that Steve wasn't going anywhere, not anytime soon. He inhaled sharply as he replied, "Oh, sweetheart... To know that you're not leaving me, it's...it's reassuring as fuck. Thanks, doll." he kissed his face a few times, making the blond laugh.

Steve squeezed him tight, hugging him close, “I figured that, honey. The both of us were always stubborn bastards.” he smiled fondly then nodded to his boyfriend, “I’m not going anywhere, darling. In fact…it’s 2016, guys can be boyfriends now, without the law saying so much as a word to anyone.”

Steve kissed his forehead gently, cupping his face with a gummy grin he knew all too well made Bucky a bit weak in the knees, “Bucky Barnes, will you be my boyfriend?”

Bucky chuckled again, as he fondly stated, thinking back to when they were younger, “We were a pair of troublemakers though, you especially, you punk.” he smirked. He then added fondly, “Yeah, Wade was kind of filling me in about that, which thank god, because there’s a future for us now.”

With Steve’s question, he lit up like New York City at night, smiling warmly at him, something he hadn’t done in over seventy years, “Stevie, are you asking me to go steady with you?” he asked, wanting to be sure that this was what he thought it was.

Steve nudged him, “You had to get me out of some fights when I was too small to stop some, but hell if it stopped me.” he grinned. He let out a small laugh and cupped Bucky’s face again, “Yes darling, I’m asking you to go steady with me. How about it, Buck? Me finally getting to go steady with my best guy?” he asked with a big, cheesy, stupid grin.

Bucky offered him a soft smile, remembering the amount of scrapes Steve had gotten into weekly back then, he was a fighter down to his bones, “Again, what a punk, always getting into scrapes, so I had to save your ass.”

Then he grinned, another thing he hadn’t done before falling off of that bridge, Bucky looked at him with adoration he couldn’t put into words in his dark brown eyes, “Then absolutely yes, I’ll be your boyfriend, I’ll go steady with you.” he hoarsely replied, but he didn’t have much time to think about it.

Steve pulled him in, sweeping his lips up into a breathless kiss full of love and longing, holding onto him tightly. He pulled away slowly, his lips lingering on the brunet’s as he whispered teasingly to him, “I promise, we’ll have more time for that later, but we should really see to the kid first. He needs to know that he has two parents, after all.” Steve grinned at him with that gorgeous, gummy grin again, the one that made him kind of powerless.

Bucky shoved him gently in a playful gesture, mock-glaring at him with a grin, “There had better be, and yeah, let’s go see to the kid. He has a boyfriend too, you know.” he smiled, he was already kind of fond of Peter too.

“Yeah, Tony’s kid is with Wade, his name is Peter.” the blond replied, unwinding his arms from around his boyfriend to grab his hand, entwining their fingers, making a point to hold his left hand, pressing a soft kiss to the back of his hand, “Also, I don’t care about this. You’re still you, even though you’ve got a metal arm, babydoll.”

The brunet gladly held his hand, just about to say something about the fact Steve was holding his vibranium arm’s hand, but he was shut up with the blond’s reassuring words, “Thanks, Stevie. You’re a real peach.” he kissed his cheek, walking with him as he spotted the mercenary animatedly telling the younger brunet something.

“So you see sweetheart, we can go on patrol tonight and when it’s done, we might get one movie in, possibly two, if you’re willing for an all-nighter that is, cupcake?” Wade asked the brunet who was sitting on his lap, it always felt good to hold the spider he loved close, but the brunet sitting on him was a different story entirely, especially if he was facing him like he was now.

Peter nodded, kissing his cheek, knowing damn well what sitting on his boyfriend and maintaining eye contact did, but was a little shit about it, “That makes sense, honey and yeah, okay, you’re on. We’ll stay up watching those scary movies, but you’d better bring blankets and snacks, it’s getting colder out there.” he nudged him playfully.

Wade laughed, also knowing that Peter knew this damn well, just about to answer him before he winked, whispering to him, “Okay cutie-patootie, I would love for us to continue this conversation, but I would really like to introduce you to my parents, and now’s as good an opportunity as any, since they just came in.”

Peter snorted in amusement, “Oh yeah, I forgot, I’m dating Captain America’s son, aren’t I?” he teased him, knowing full well what was going on, but poking fun at it was funny.

“Yeah, but at least I’m dating a fellow super who happens to be a hero, and a very cute one at that.” Wade answered him with a wink, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. Then, he called over to Bucky, “Hey dad, you know my boyfriend Peter, but pops hasn’t met him with you before, right?” he asked casually, knowing all too well that Bucky would remember what he meant by that.

Bucky chuckled, rolling his eyes fondly at this, because the level of pettiness was akin to Steve’s, it was cute, “You’re a man of your word, aren’t you, kid? Stevie, this is our kid, Wade.”

They’d talked on the way here, and he knew how much Wade liked his double-letter alliteration name, so he asked, “Will I tell him, or do you want to, sweetheart?”

Steve nodded to Wade, giving him an assuring smile, “Hi, son. Buck here told me that we’re your parents, so we’re going to get some papers filled in and filed away tomorrow so it’ll be official.” Steve told him with pride in his tone.

He looked at Bucky lovingly,as he answered him, “I’ll tell him, honey.” he kissed his cheek.

The good captain looked at Wade as he gently explained, expecting it not to go well, “Which means your last name won’t be Wilson anymore.”

Wade sat up suddenly, shock flooding his system, but still holding Peter close, “Wait, you’re officially going to be my parents? Holy fucking shit, I thought we were mostly joking, Cap.” he grinned but then sighed, “I’ll deal with it. Hey, will my new last name be Barnes or Rogers?” he asked curiously.

Steve smiled fondly, jerking his head in teh direction of his boyfriend, “This one doesn’t joke that much, so if he took you under his wing, that’s saying something big about you, son. And it’ll be Rogers.” Steve answered his secondary question, seeming very sure about that.

Wade raised his eyebrow and was about to ask how Steve could be so sure he would take his name, when Bucky asked for him, “How can you be so sure, sugar?”

Steve kissed his lips softly, just a chaste peck, grinning at him, “Don’t worry, it’ll be your last name pretty soon too, babydoll.” he smirked a little, it was no secret he wanted a life with Bucky, they’d talked about it so many times, and in all the converstations they’d had over the years, they always decided that he’d take Steve’s name.

“Oh shit, pops that was smooth as fuck!” Wade exclaimed with a grin, holding his boyfriend close, laughing softly as he told him smugly, “I guess you’ll be Peter Rogers someday then, eh, Petey-pie?”

Peter hid his face in his shoulder, blushing as he replied, “I had a feeling you were about to say that but still honey...” he hummed a bit and then smiled, “For what it’s worth, I’d be happy about that.” he winked.

Wade kissed his cheek, “I figured you would be, chocolate eyes.” He looked to his parents after ensuring the brunet’s arms and legs were wrapped around him, “Me and Petey are going to my room, it’s the third door on the fifth floor, bright red door with stickers all over it. My sweet boyfriend kind of demanded I got given a room awhile back, old Iron-Ass wasn’t happy, but eh, what are you going to do, you know?” he explained before carrying a blushing Peter away with him, kissing his neck as they walked.

Bucky looked softly at Steve, squeezing his hand as he asked, remembering all the times they had snuggled close under threadbare blankets and discussed their futures, “Do…do you mean that, sweetheart?” he held his breath without knowing he was doing so.

Steve simply gave him one of those gummy grins of his as he softly spoke, fondness and warmth in his tone, “I told you back in 1942, if I could marry you at some point, you’d be mine and I’d be yours, and now we can do that, so yes, I meant it, darling. Every word of it.”

The former sergeant let go of his hand, hugging him tightly, “I want that so bad, sugar. …Show me our room, please?” he asked, looking up into his eyes, a soft, sappy smile on his face.

Steve wrapped his arms around him tightly, moving to pick him up to walk to their room, formerly his room, with Bucky, “I do too, babydoll. Well, I’ve got to show my best guy where he’ll be sleeping, don’t I?” he smirked, but then added, “Wrap your legs around me and let’s see if I can still carry you, handsome.”

“You’re goddamn right you do, I’ve missed seventy years of cuddles, I want to cash in all of my coupons for those, as well as all the kisses I’ve missed, sweet cheeks.” Bucky replied with a warm smile, taking a moment to simply look at Steve, to admire his handsome face.

He let himself admire his one and only for a few good minutes, then Bucky did as he was told, wrapping his legs around his boyfriend’s waist, smiling when he was carried to an elevator, going to the third floor where the original team members of the Avengers stayed, there were six floors including the roof where patrol usually took place.

When they got to Steve’s room, he called out to JARVIS, “Steve Rogers, requesting access?”

The AI, made by a man with a funny old sense of humour answered, “Access denied, state proper code name.”

Steve sighed dramatically as he answered begrudgingly, “Capsicle, requesting access?”

JARVIS’ tone practically vibrated with smugness, “Welcome, Captain.” The door clicked open and the pair of them walked inside, Bucky looking severely confused.

Before he could ask what happened, Steve realised he would have to explain that he drove a plane into water purposefully, and realised that Bucky would be absolutely furious at him, so he gently explained, “I’ll explain that, but, I need you to promise to not freak out and keep in mind that I’m absolutely fine now, okay?” he looked at him pleadingly.

Bucky took a few seconds to think about what it could mean and laughed softly, “If you’re talking about how your dumbass crashed a plane into water to save this country, then I know. I’m just confused as to why the fancy robot living in the walls calls you something so stupid, sweet cheeks.” Bucky replied, it was water off a duck’s back now, but when Wade had told him, he’d been furious, but he’d had plenty of time to cool off about it.

Steve hugged him close, looking at him with sad blue eyes, “I thought you were dead...and well...” he trailed off, not knowing how to finish that sentence.

Bucky pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, “I hate that you were trying to join me when you thought I was dead, but I can’t say a goddamn thing, because I would’ve been the same, Stevie. It’s okay, we’re both alright and together again now.” he murmured into his ear, hodling him close.

Steve felt tears fall down his cheeks, holding the brunet he carried in his arms a bit tighter, “I...I was so scared that you were...that you were...” his voice cracked, he buried his face in Bucky’s fluffy brown hair.

The former sergeant nudged him gently, squeezing his shoulder from where he was wrapped around the blon in an octopus style position, “I know, sweetheart. When I had a grasp on what was what after Charles Xaver fixed my head, one of the first memory that came back to me was of you...of us.”

Steve walked with him into his bedroom, now their bedroom as he softly asked, “Which memory was it?”

Bucky softly smiled at the memory of the memory, “Let’s get in here and I’ll tell you.” He couldn’t help but blush a little, the memory was quite intimate after all.

Steve closed the door behind them, walking over to the bed with him, gently putting Bucky down on his feet with a gentle kiss to sit down on the bed, patting the space beside him for his boyfriend to sit down beside him.

The former sergeant smiled warmly and joined him on the bed, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, “It was pretty awkward having someone else in my head remembering this...but at least I’m healed.” he added.

“I don’t care if you think you’re healed, there’s a counselling service for former soldiers at the VA, I have a friend who works there actually, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind helping us, helping you.” Steve told him in a stern tone but with soft eyes, he would be stubborn about this, Bucky needed to talk to someone about what had happened to him under HYDRA’s misdeeds.

Bucky looked softly at him, ducking his head for a moment as he nodded, “I knew that was coming, but I know what you mean, I need it, my love.” But then he wrapped an arm around the blond sitting beside him, “Do you remember the first time we kissed? That was my first conscious memory after Charles fixed my brain.”

Steve’s entire face softened as he looked adoringly at his lover, “That’s...that’s so sweet. Of course I remember our first kiss, you were nearly too tall for me to reach.” he chuckled.

Bucky gave him a fond smile, murmuring, “Yeah? You managed fine though, Stevie. Pulled me down by my suspenders if I recall right.” he smirked a bit, holding him closer.

Steve chuckled, pulling him closer and inching closer to his face, “Yeah, I did. You were too tall to reach otherwise, and now we have the opposite problem, babydoll.” he grinned toothily at him, amusement in his tone.

Bucky cracked a lopsided grin (it was Steve’s own personal brand of kryptonite if he was being honest) as he replied, turning to the taller man, “Let’s relive it, Stevie.”

He grabbed the material of his t-shirt, pulling the blond down to his height and gently kissing his lips, holding him close.

Steve kissed him back immediately, holding him close and relishing the moment with tenderness. He moved away slightly to mumble into Bucky’s skin, “Maybe we should get ready for bed? You don’t have any pyjamas.”

Bucky pressed a soft kiss to his nose, “Not here I don’t, Stevie. I do back in the X-Men facility where I was staying. Our son helped me buy clothes. But...you’re right, I don’t have any pyjamas right now.”

Steve grinned broadly at him, standing up and going to a drawer, getting out a clean pair of pyjamas, they were soft plaid ones, in blue and grey. He pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, “Here you go, honey. Now you’ve got pyjamas for here.” he smiled at him. He advised the brunet to go change in the adjorning bathroom while he got changed into his own pyjamas; a similar set but in red and white.

When Bucky came back, the covers were turned back down, Steve walked over to him, admiring him in his pyjamas, pulling him into bed with him, snuggling close to him, “Goodnight, darling.”

Bucky wrapped his arms around him snugly, nuzzling his neck and shoulder gently, “Goodnight, my love, sleep well.”

The both of them slipped off to sleep in each other’s arms fairly quickly, snuggled up and sleeping by each other’s sides.
