Chapter 2
“Ned, Ned,” Peter Parker shoved his friend with his elbow lightly a few times, not looking in his direction but instead his eyes were glued to staring out the window, eyes stuck on the disaster that lay a few roads down. He wasn’t really sure what exactly was happening, but the panic on people’s faces was unmistakable.
“Cover for me,” he whispered without saying anything else. He didn’t need to say anything else, his best friend understood what he meant. Not the first time they had to do this, and it definitely wouldn’t be the last.
Peter moved through the busy hallway that was full of people going to their lockers during the lunch break, the loud noise of chattering was only background noise for him as he slid into the male’s bathroom that has a ‘ Do Not Enter ’ sign clearly on the door. He pulled the suit from the bottom of his bag and hoped that the plumbers didn’t show up right now.
Once finished, he shoved his clothes carelessly into his bag and swung through the high up window by the stall. He watched as he swung closer and closer to the scene, as it got bigger and bigger, and no doubt more dangerous. He knows if he talks through his suit to Mr. Stark, he would be told to go straight back to school, that ‘ the adults have this ’.
He didn’t want to do that. Instead, he stayed quiet, was silent as he studied the scene in front of him. He stopped by his house so he could throw his bag through the window, barely staying long enough to hear it thump onto the floor.
When he got to the fight, he first scoped around any of the Avengers. Surely they would be here. They can’t ignore anything this big, right ? Apparently they can. After a quick scope of the area, he saw no one. “Karen. Scan for any heat signatures,” his first priority was to make sure that no one was stuck here.
He knew what it was like. What if felt like being crushed under fallen buildings, and even with his superpowers, he struggled to breath, let alone move. “Signature found north-east from you,” the robotic voice rang out and had Peter running that direction before she even finished.
Once he noticed them, he helped one lift the concrete after another person’s foot. “Get to the hospital fast.” He would love to stay and help them get there, but he can only stretch himself so far. He watched the two run off, “Mr. Stark ? There is an incident at...” he trailed off as he looked around for any readable street sign. “I know you have a tracker in me, just come where I am. I think a lot of help is needed.”
“Is it important, kid ?” Tony’s voice rang out, nothing but boredom laced in his voice. Peter couldn’t help but feel disappointed that he wasn’t believed, he just said he thinks help is needed. “It’s not on any news stations,” he continued. Peter could hear the unsaid meaning underneath his words. ‘ Don’t lie ’.
“Fine. I’ll deal with it myself.” That was all he said before he ordered his robot assistant to mute Tony for the next hour. Sure, he knows it is petty, but he was a bit pissed off. It’s not like Tony wants to contact him anyway so what does it matter.
“Do I get Mr. Roger’s, or Thor ?” He thought quietly out loud to himself as he paced around, not really sure what to do next. He quickly shook off that idea. They would probably just agree with Tony and brush him off, he really wasn’t up to being rejected yet again.
He stood atop of a building for only a moment, he caught his breath and let his arms have a small rest while he thought of the approach. There seems not to be any physical enemy around, only an air ship firing bomb after bomb out. How is this not on any news station ?
He vaguely remembered fighting a ship similar to the one flying above him, the only way they could stop it was to make it blow. Last time Thor did it, since it was the safest way. But Thor isn’t here. Only Peter.
Peter jumped and instantly went onto the tallest and closest building to the ship that he could. He stood back a bit before jumping. Time felt like it was going by slowly as he was in the air, leaping up off the bomb. They seemed to blow just as he jumped off them, so they are touch sensitive.
Peter continued to climb up, using the bombs as stepping stones. “Peter, Mr. Stark is trying to contact you,” Karen’s voice said suddenly, and Peter didn’t even hesitate for a second before he replied.
“Decline it.” He said, not really thinking. He was too busy trying to get to the ship. “Decline it and tell him that I’m busy,” he said, getting closer and closer to the ship. He managed to get on top of it, and was glad it was just floating instead of going somewhere since it ended up saving him the need to latch onto anything.
He went to the side that held the most canons and quickly added layers over layers of webs over them. He could hear the faint overheating of the engine, and felt the hum of the overpowering of the ship, but he couldn’t just leave yet. He had the other half to finish up, which he did just as fast, if not faster than the first side. The engine’s hum grew louder, the heat intensifying under his feet. “Tony Stark left a message. Do you want it played ?” Karen’s voice rang through and Peter decided to at least hear it through.
