Crayon

Ever since I was young I was a castaway, too different, and weird. I was sent away from my home country since I had family In the United States, they didn’t want me so I was put in foster care. That’s okay though because they seemed a bit mean as is.

I am currently 4 years old, at least that’s what the lady who is housing me said. She’s nice. Her name is Cecillia, she's making carne asada and eggs for breakfast since it’s my birthday. She said I’m an Nina Extrana. I think she meant it as a compliment so I smiled. I was currently reading The Great Gadsby, since she took me to the library yesterday because I helped do a chore. All of the other children in the house came running into the dining room since they smelt the food cooking. I greeted them and went back to reading my book. They were talking to one another about plans and things they wanted to do today. Food was served. I placed my book down by my side at the table so I could eat, then one of the kids took it from my side and I looked up at her and put my hand out trying to grab it back from her.

“Give it back please, that is mine” I said hurriedly

“No! I want it." She retorted.

“Why are you even reading that, people in my grade are reading that you shouldn’t be able to.” One of the older fosters said looking at the book. I still haven't taken my eyes off the girl, she’s older than me by 2 years and she acts like she’s the queen because of it. I start getting upset, normally I'm not one to get angry often. I clenched my jaw and a loud grunt came from deep within my chest. I blink and stare at the little girl sitting by me, a look of pure horror flashed by her face as my honey brown eyes turn one of the darkest shades of green. I’m unaware of the change solely focused on my book in her hand.

Give it back!” Now that surprised even me. She shakily gives me back my book and after I get it back she starts wailing as I hold the book to my chest and get up from the table to go to my separate room in the house.

Whilst I’m entering my room I lock the door behind me and sit on my bed. I hear grumbling in the forefront of my mind, thinking it’s myself until I hear.

“Okay?” I gasp and look around, seeing if anyone is in the room with me.

“Where are you?” I say, a bit scared.

“No scared, Up here.” The voice says and I feel a sort of knocking on my brain.

I put my finger on my head and tap back “Why are you up there?” I ask, my curiosity getting the better of me.

“Don no? Woke here?” The voice answered,

“Do you have a name?” I ask politely

“Hulk?” The voice sounds more feminine now that she’s less groggy.

“That sounds angry.” I say thoughtfully.

“New name?” She asks.

“Will you be my friend if I give you a new name?” I ask genuinely.

“Friend? Friend! I want.” She says happily.

“Odette?” I list off.

“Nu”

“Haliy?”

“N” she starts getting restless as I continue listing off names. I look at my hands and see they are changing to a green color. I bound off my bed and went to my crayons. I look through the greens and find the closest color to it.

“Olive?” I ask shyly.

I hear a giggle and feel happy everywhere as I feel happy stomps in my head.

Ah Live. Ohliv. Olive. I like I like!”

And that was a start to a new but Incredible friendship.
