"Excuse me. Not to interrupt but what exactly are you doing to that girl?" A soft but probing voice asked, diverting the group's attention. Behind them was a blonde with neck-length hair with rose highlights wearing a... Interestingly coloured (Orange, peach, white, pink, magenta all swirled together) cropped sweater on top of a white undershirt with flares. The subtle freckles on her face dusted her rosy cheeks and her pink lips curved into a small smile below some pretty niche glasses. Not gonna lie, the girl was cute. But that was just a general observation by Jade. Nothing more. Mhm... Despite her overall non-threatening appearance, there was just something exuding from her. Something like an underlying danger and it's clear Jessica felt it too because she let go of Jade's neck.

"I, um... We, uh, we were just helping our friend, Jayden, here! Yup, she just had an incident with some of the jerks on campus. We wanted to make sure she was okay." The bully blatantly lied through her teeth, shooting a glance at Kyle, who immediately hauled Jade up to her feet, and to Emma who put away her phone. Helping her? Yeah right. More like glass-closeted lesbian getting off to choking her. I am inclined to reprimand you for your vulgar thoughts. However, I can't scold you for being right.

The blonde girl clearly didn't believe them, if the look on her face was anything to go by, but played along anyways. "Oh, how nice of you." She praised in a gentle voice, the slight threat in her tone not going unnoticed. "She is looking a little haggard right now but maybe she'd be able to show me around still. I was told my guide was going to be a female student named Jayden Gavinski." Whether those words were true or not (they weren't) didn't matter, she was providing Jade with an escape and like hell she wasn't going to take it.

"Of course! I don't know how I could have forgotten." Yanking her arm out of Kyle's grip, she stepped forward, putting one calloused hand on the blonde's back to guide her away from here. Thank fuck this girl arrived in time. Jade could already feel the bruise on her neck forming. Weak. "Shut up, you could have helped me." Not without risking revealing myself. "Wait a second. I could've talk to you in my mind this whole time?" Yeah? "...We'll talk about this later." Filing that information away for later, she turned her attention to her saviour once they were out of hearing range of the Walmart Plastics. "Thanks for saving my butt back there. I owe you one, stranger."

The blonde chuckled slightly, a melodic sound that made Jade's heart beat a little faster. Your heart rate is picking up along with your body temperature. The reason behind this has not been identified. "Shut the fuck up." Language! The girl began to speak, pulling the host to the parasite out of the internal conversation. "It was really no problem. I hate bullies." Her expression darkened on that last sentence, surprising Jade as, apart from the danger radiating off her, she seemed nice, some what soft. It was only for a second though since a beaming smile quickly replaced the frightening expression. "And no need to call me stranger! I'm Melanie. Melanie Jackson. I already know who are though, Jayden." She introduced brightly, putting an arm Jade's waist and bumping their hips.

Unused to such bold advances, especially by someone she has just met, Jayden Jade blushed slightly, stumbling over her words before regaining her composure. "Call me Jade. Or Jay. Or even Jay Bird! Just not Jayden... Never Jayden..."

"....I, uh, okay then. Anyways, Jade, it was nice meeting but I have to go meet my actual guide. I hope to see you around sometime, though." Melanie's smile faltered before returning full-force. In all honesty, Jade had admit: that grin shone like the sun, overriding the instinctal distrust at the aura of danger coming from the blonde. Maybe having a friend this year could work well. This random girl has gotten past emotional defense that even I, an alien symbiote, couldn't overcome for months in less than thirty minutes. Why is that— oh. OH. Nevermind, ignore me. "Yeah, I will."

"Sure, I can't wait." Jade replied earnestly, watching the girl go with a small smile on her face. Melanie was cute, that she would acknowledge. She also seemed genuinely sweet despite the way she scared the dark haired girl slightly. Maybe it was the not-so-subtle danger coming off her or the fact that she made the bullies back off without resorting to violence but she seemed... powerful. Not in a strength sorta way but like strategically. Either way, she would like to get to know her better... Later... When she wasn't busy... Wuss. "Am not." Are to. "Am not."

Jade, already feeling tired of the symbiote for the second time that day, decided to ignore her permanent companion. With a lightness in heart, she meandered to the entrance of the school, blending in with the crowd of students pouring in with a new straightness in her posture. Unfortunately for her, this brief respite from the sad reality of human existence didn't last long as the weight of the impending school day landed on her shoulder, slumping them like there was something actually there. Fuck, in her blonde-induced bliss, she forgot she hated everyone here and everyone here hated her.

Rest of the school day was mostly uneventful, the routine never changing. Register, zone out during teacher's lecture, get scolded, tell teacher to piss off, get sent to the pedo councillor, deal with pedophile bullshit from said councilor for what feels like hours, get back to class, barely focus on classes throughout the day, lock the fuck in during biology because, apart from art, Jade actually cared about that subject, lunch, rest of the classes then finally, the end of the day. The only thing that deviated from the monotonous life at this glorified prison was the fact she shared first period with that Melanie girl. They did wave once and smile slightly at eachother but that was it. Nothing special. However, now that the day was over Jade could finally retreat to her den of sorts. The fact that you have a den only enforces the mutt nicknames. "Fuck off." Stop swearing. "No." Yes. "No." Yes. "No!" Yes! "Be quiet! You're not my mother." You don't listen to her either! "Whatever."

Blocking out the annoying (but right in every situation!) parasite, Jade put her headphones in and pulled her phone out her pocket, eyes widening slightly in surprise at the piece of paper stuck to it. Ripping it off, Jade read the words written on it, her lips curling into an amused smirk.

Hey there, cutie! If you're getting this then you must be real special. Yes, I have multiple of these printed. Anyways, here's my number. Shoot me a text ASAP.

After sending the message, Jade opened Spotify, clicking shuffle on her liked playlist. Pocketing her phone, she strolled down the street, humming as Red Wine Supernova began to play.
