Milky White Eyes
Chapter 1: Milky White Eyes
It had been a week and a half. Sinister had stolen Morph again and Wolverine was tearing up every lead the team could possibly get their hands on. Morph, Jubilee, and Rogue were on their way home from the mall when a shadow seemingly attacked the car that the three of them were in. Rogue was able to grab Jubilee in time but that shadow had enveloped Morph and before they could even scream, they were gone.
This lead had been more promising than the other few the team had investigated. Logan swore up and down that he could smell his partner. The decrepit, old mansion was practically a maze but Logan made his way to a makeshift lab in the basement. Rogue followed close behind, cursing herself for not being fast enough. The others split up in attempt to track down Sinister. After a while they could be heard fighting from upstairs while Logan and Rogue continued to search for their friend in this large, decaying room until Logan came upon a large glass test tube big enough to hold a person, but what contained in it was a strange white liquid, It was thick, and moving, and it seemed to react as the short, burly man approached it.
“Morph?” He hesitantly questioned reading over the screen in front of the tube with the label [KEVIN SYDNEY a.k.a. Morph. Mutation: Shapeshifter]
The liquid shifted a little upon hearing its name.
“MORPH!” Logan yelled with more worry. He slammed his fist against the glass and a part of tube fell open. The mass fell into Logans arms and tried to hug him but fell short. “Morph, bub, you can reform now,, its ok” Logan kissed part of the sludge as he gripped his partner tight to reassure them but to no avail. They only moved slightly in his arms but with no real progress on reshaping their ‘human’ form. “Morph, come on stop playing” His voice a little more gruff and a little more stern.
“Kev? Come on” in the softest voice such a tough man could muster.
“Logan, we gotta move!” Rogue yelled from across the room, she was carrying something in her hand and the sound of the fight upstairs began to die down. They could hear Scott yell “Where did he go?” As that all too familiar shadow appeared behind Logan.
He began to run with the non-newtonian fluid running down his arms. He ran up the stairs and past his team ignoring all the questions they hurled at him until he found himself standing at the emergency medical bed in the blackbird where Beast had stayed to help prepare care for Morph with whatever state the shapeshifter may be in. Although he was not prepare to see Logan running full speed at hime with Morph practically dripping out of his arms. “Oh dear”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with them. I just found them like this and I don’t think they can reform!” Logan explained through gritted teeth, “They’re responding but not shaping themself.” He laid Morph on the bed and as soon as he did, they started to spill over onto the floor.
“I see, they’ve mentioned to me in the past that this is technically they’re original state,” the doctor grabbed a clear plastic storage container and carefully lifted the part of Morph the was on the floor into it, “I just thought they’d never let us see it” He watched as the rest of Morph followed suit and plopped into the box.
Logan silently picked up the container and placed it back on the bed. They had told Logan about their liquid state in private trusting him to never share it with anyone else. But he didn’t know they shared it with Beast and possibly others too. He didn’t know how much Beast knew but he wasn’t about to share their secrets with them listening, unable to protest.
The team piled in and took off before Sinister could catch up with them.
“Is that-Them?” Scott asked with a very puzzled look on his face.
“Our malleable Morph just seems to be having a bit of trouble with their mutation at the moment” Beast answered vaguely, seemingly sharing Logan’s sentiment, but it was enough for Scott to just nod and take his place near the front of the plane.
“I didn’t know they told you” The Wolverine growled, not taking his eyes off Morph.
“Well as their doctor, they let me know about the possibility of this happening” He hooked up some sensors to the surface of their skin? He wasn’t sure how to go about this but he didn’t need the Wolverine to worry more than he was so he just continued conversation with his normal, friendly disposition. “Although I’m sure Dr. Mactagert would know more than me on this matter.”
“Their not goin back to Scotland.” Logan growled “They told me they wouldn’t”
Upon feeling the sensors on their skin and hearing conversation with two people they trusted, Morph gave themself a pair of milky white eyes to help orient them to their surroundings. Their mind was still very clouded and confused with something foreign grasping at it, not allowing them to form any thought besides the outside stimulation.
“Kev!” Logan saw the eyes pop up and caressed the skin near them in the same way he caressed their face when they were in private, and instinctually, Morph shifted some of their weight into his warm hand. “Hey, it's ok, you’re safe now. You can reform. We’ll be home soon.” He practically begged in his hushed voice. There was too much worry for him to even think about who was overhearing The Wolverine be soft. But the eyes just stared at him, unblinkingly.
The monitor reading brain activity began to show readings, but all the other sensors looked as if they had been turned on without being hooked up to anything.
“Fascinating” Beast looked over the readings, “They seem to be taking in everything but something Sinister did is preventing them from being able to respond to it.”
“What?” Logan glared daggers at Beast as if he had been the one to do it.
“Well I can’t say for sure what he did, but once we get back to the mansion, I can study them more in the lab” Hank gestured over the medical equipment “While not rudimentary, the equipment here is a bit lacking.”
Logan just glared, holding his hand on what he assumed was Morph’s face.
“You are more than welcome to oversee anything I do in attempts to help our friend. I understand you both aren’t too fond of people experimenting on yourselves or each other, but I promise I only have their best interest at heart.
Logan trusted Hank, but he didn’t trust doctors. Beast knew that and knew the reassurance was needed based off of how protective he could see the animal-like man was being over his partner.
“I promise Logan, I will not hurt them” Hank restated, taking off the sensors for their descent began as they neared their home in Westchester.
Logan just grunted as he grabbed the container and headed towards the lab downstairs.
