Reduced to Atoms
“Okay, who here hasn’t been to space.” Rocket asked.
Jack, Steve, Natasha, and Rhodey raised their hands.
“Why?” Rhodey asked.
“You better not throw up on my ship.” Rocket said.
“But I’m nervous! This is space!” Jack argued.
“Then deal with it!” Rocket said.
“Approaching jump in 3…2…1!” Nebula counted down.
Suddenly the ship jumps into what looked like a wormhole. Jack noticed a glimpse of Steve holding onto the seat for dear life meanwhile Jack was having the time of his life. It reminded him of him and Bunny. Except hopping out of the vehicle didn’t seem like a smart idea this time.
“This is even better than flying!” Jack shouted.
“You fly!?” Natasha asked.
“Yeah! Didn’t I mention this earlier? With my staff! Have you noticed it!?” Jack replied but then suddenly the ship stopped.
Carol was now hovering in front of the ship. “I’ll head down for recon.”
Soon after, Jack was tapping and fidgeting because of his nerves getting the best of him. He was scared that this wasn’t going to work and that he’d never see his family again. He couldn’t bear the thought. He didn’t know how he would live without them.
Natasha seemed to notice his nerves and spoke up. “This is gonna work, Jack.”
“It has to.” He replied.
“It will, right Steve?” She turned to him. “This is gonna work.”
“I know it will.” He said looking at a picture. “Cause I don’t know what I’m going to do if it doesn’t.”
Jack silently agreed.
Soon Carol came back. “No satellites, no ships, no armies, no ground defenses of any kind.”
They all were stunned. It couldn’t possibly be this easy, right?
“It’s just him.”
“And that’s enough,” Nebula said.
They all made their way to the surprisingly peaceful looking planet. Carol flew through the roof grabbing Thanos’ neck. Bruce was in a huge suit of armor and grabbed the arm with the infinity stones. Jack then flew in, sending an ice blast to Thanos’ heart and then held up his staff in defense. Thor then came and sliced off the gauntlet with the stones. Rhodey and Rocket came down with guns and aimed them at Thanos’ head.
Steve then walked in with Natasha following right behind him.
Jack and Rocket looked at the gauntlet only to realize that there were no stones.
“W-what?” Jack stared in disbelief.
“Oh no…” Rocket said.
“Where are they?” Steve asked Thanos.
“Answer the question!” Carol demanded.
“The universe required correction.” Thanos said.
“Bullshit!” Jack sent a blast of ice.
“After that the stones served no purpose, beyond temptation.”
“You murdered trillions!” Bruce said and knocked Thanos to the floor.
“You should be grateful!” Thanos said and Bruce punched him.
Grateful?!
“Where are the stones?” Natasha asked.
“Gone. Reduced to atoms.”
“You used them two days ago!” Jack shouted.
“I used the stones to destroy the stones. It nearly killed me.” Well boohoo? Cry about it? “But the work is done. It always will be.” He sat up a little straighter. “I am…inevitable.”
“We have to tear this place apart.” Rhodey said.
“Yeah, he-he-he has to be lying.” Jack stuttered.
“My father is many things. A liar is not one of them.” Nebula said and Jack’s jaw dropped. Father? He honestly didn’t see the resemblance. Especially since he’s purple and she’s blue. Snap out of it!
“Ah, thank you daughter. Perhaps I treated you too harshly.”
Thor couldn’t take it anymore. His face filled with rage and before anyone can do anything he slices Thanos’ head off. His dead body fell to the ground. The room went quiet. The sound of Thanos’ detached head hitting the floor was echoing in their heads.
“What did you do?” Rocket said.
“I went for the head.” He said simply.
It was silent as they all were processing it.
Thor killed Thanos.
The infinity stones were no more.
The fallen were never coming back.
Jack’s family was gone. Permanently.
