The first day
laura wakes up at 5am, and gets ready for her first day of school, putting on a pair of baggy jeans, converse, and a led zeppelin t shirt she definitely stole from Tony’s wardrobe.
“good morning kid, made you some pancakes for your first day of school you excited? Also is that my t-shirt?” says tony with one eye brow raised.
Disgruntled, and half asleep laura replies “uh thank you dad, very excited… and it could be. Where’s pepper?
Tony chuckles at her response, “hmm looks like I should have made you a cup of coffee instead. And Pepper had a meeting, in Washington, so she caught a flight. what time did you even sleep?” Concerned at her lack of energy he questions.
laura rubs her eyes and collects herself “ oh yeah I don’t know how I forgot. And I slept at 3am, but listen in my defence I am your daughter and sleep deprivation must be a genetic trait”.
Tony hides his amusement, and puts on a stern exterior to scold her for her poor sleeping habits. “Kid you-“ before he can finish his sentence Friday announces that happy has entered the penthouse.
Tony slightly annoyed, and laura grateful to be saved by happy greets him with a lot of excitement “morning happy!”
“morning kid, what’s got you so excited for school? You were complaining about it the entire break” He replies surprised.
“no reason, just that dad made pancakes” she says slyly with a smirk etched on her face.
Tony slightly rolls his eyes and drops the topic, keeping it in mind in case it happens again. laura grabs an extra plate for happy and puts it down on the table.
The three sit down and the two men discuss the accords “the meetings are driving my head in” Tony says in frustration. Happy responds with a sympathetic look and the men discuss the topic further.
laura grabs a pancake and sees that it’s extremely burnt but appreciates her fathers efforts (not everyone is a chef like pepper). She drizzles the pancake with maple syrup to compensate.
Once everyone is done with their pancakes, she grabs her backpack, and gets in happy’s car.
During the 15 minute car ride she silently listens to music. once, she makes it to the Midtown school of science and technology she sits in the car for a minute and checks her bag to make sure she has everything, “trust me you’ve got everything kid, just get in there you’ll be fine. Good luck” happy assures her.
laura smiles, and makes her way out of the car, slightly annoyed she has to be there an hour early. She enters the school where she’s greeted by a short haired, blonde woman who looks to be in her mid 40s.
The woman excited begins rambling “Oh wow, you must be miss stark it’s really a pleasure to have you at our school. I’m a big fan of your fathers work, I’m Melinda, the kids call me Mrs hall but feel free to call me whatever you’d like- it is a pleasure to have you here. I-“
laura cuts her off mid rant “it’s really nice to meet you Mrs hall, and really you can just call me Laura ”, she smiles at the lady with a glint of sympathy. One thing she did miss about her old school right now was that no one treated her like a celebrity.
Mrs hall composes herself, “okay then miss sta- I mean laura, I’ll take you to the office, where you’ll receive your class schedule, and a volunteer student from your grade will show you around the school.”
laura softly smiles, and follows the lady down the currently empty vinyl floored school hallways, distinct with the smell of citrus. The school has blue lockers, and tv screens at each turn.
They finally make their way to the office after a short 5 minute walk, where her and other new students receive their class schedules.
She hears a few of them whispering amongst themselves, surprised that the daughter of tony stark was attending their school. She chooses to ignore their obvious whispering.
A few minutes later a boy with fluffy brown hair, and doe brown eyes approaches her “hey, um my names Peter Parker, I’m supposed to show you around the school” he mutters awkwardly.
“Oh nice to meet you Parker, my names laura stark, but call me whatever you like.” She responds confidently.
“Well since we’re going by last names I’ll settle with calling you stark” he responds jokingly.
“Seems fair to me” laura smiles.
Throughout the tour, Parker barely talks to her and fidgets, laura can sense he’s shy and quietly looks at all the spots he shows her. Quickly memorising and learning all the routes to her classes. She appreciates that he’s the only person at the school so far that has treated her normally.
Half an hour in, and the school has suddenly become bustled with noise as students gather to reconnect post summer break.
At the end of the tour, the two make it back to the school entrance, where Peter’s face shifts to excited, as he runs to a chubby kid, and gives him a big embrace.
laura stands back and lets the two friends reconnect, scrolling through her phone from a distance not hearing a word of their conversation.
A minute later, a curly haired beautiful brown girl joins the two and gives them a high five. She looks at laura and raises an eyebrow
“so starks daughters at our school huh?” She questions
“Yeah she is, isn’t it so cool. Peter literally gave her a tour” Ned said ecstatically.
“hmm, is she self absorbed?” MJ queries
“Honestly, I didn’t really talk to her much I have no idea what she’s like, but she seemed nice” Peter responds honestly.
While the three are busy holding their own conversation, laura gets approached by a group of three beautiful girls.
The one on the left, is dark skinned, short and heavily resembles Taylor russel. The one in the middle, is a brunette, with blue eyes, her hair is long and reaches down to her thighs. The one on the right is an a blonde girl with glasses that perfectly frame her face, and adorable bangs giving her an innocent quality
“Hey you’re tony starks daughter right? That’s so cool. My names Alice” The one in the middle inquires.
“Uh yeah, that’s me. My name is laura . Nice to meet you” she smiles politely. Everyone at this school is gonna know her as tony starks daughter, and she might as well own it.
“Wow that’s such a pretty name! my names Aaliyah” the one to the left eagerly says, a hint of fakeness in her voice.
“and I’m Julia” the one on the right says animatedly. Laura finds the interaction odd and before she can continue the conversation.
The bell rings indicating the start of the day, she breezes through it, with flocks of teens eager to befriend her in each class. She does notice however, that the Parker kid from earlier that morning happens to be everywhere she goes.
The lunch bell rings, Ned and Peter who were fortunate enough to get an early mark from history. make it to the cafeteria, and grab food for themselves.
“Pete you think the new girls gonna sit with us?” Questions Ned.
“Her names laura and I’m not sure.” Responds Peter quietly.
“Well I kinda hope she does she seems really cool and her dads literally iron man. Does she know you’re Spider-Man” Ned whispers
“no way dude, no she has no idea. And I’m kinda supposed to look out for her, Mr stark asked me to” he replies.
The boys sit down and wait for laura to walk into the cafeteria and sit down with them. However, when she walks in the trio of girls from the morning wave and gesture at her to come sit with them. Out of politeness, and to avoid a repeat of being called a bitch like she was at her old school, she sits down with the girls.
The conversations with them seem superficial, and boring but she is used to it. The girls gossip about the previous party and their excitement for the next one, Laura trained in dealing with these interactions quips in a shocked expression or two listening attentively as the girls talk their head off.
By the end of lunch the girls really like her, mainly because she sat down and let them talk about themselves, and so they decide to invite her to the next party. Laura having no interest in being there responds politely with a simple “I’ll let you guys know”.
While, laura is busy navigating the new school as a sophomore, Tony attends yet another accords meeting.
He sits down at the conference table, frustrated that Steve and the others hid themselves leaving Tony to clean up their mess. And worried about where Bruce and Thor could be.
Rhodey comes and sits down right next to Tony, giving a gentle reassuring smile.
“Mr stark it has been a year, since the accords were proposed, and since then, the avengers have disappeared. Banner and Thor are nowhere to be found, and all that’s left is you. We need answers.” Sternly demands an old white man with grey hair and a moustache.
“Well Mr Ross I have no idea, and I want nothing more then for this to be all over. If I knew where any of them were I wouldn’t have been the only one here” He responds annoyed.
The meeting continues for another two hours as the men in the room attempt to reach a conclusion, but little to no progress is made.
Tony leaves the meeting feeling drained, craving, eagerly to be home with his daughter and pepper. Unfortunately, he has a lot of work to complete at Stark industries and heads straight to work.
The finishing bell rings and laura rushes to sit in her car.
“So how was the first day miss?” Asks happy.
“It was good, had a bunch of kids try to befriend me. It was kind of weird” She responds
“Yeah I’m not surprised, this schools a lot different from your old one, you missing it?” He asks
“Honestly this schools better, everyone was an elitist douche at the last one .” She responds, yawning mid sentence.
“That’s good to hear kid, and you seem tired, want me to get you Starbucks or anything on the way home?” Happy asks
“No thank you, it’s all good”.
The rest of the car ride is quite, laura is tired.
She makes it home, and thanks happy for the ride.
Laura enters the marble floored, grand penthouse lobby. And catches the elevator up to her floor, with the use of a keycard. She makes her way out of the elevator and notices it’s empty. “Friday where’s dad and pepper?”
“Mr stark is currently working at SI, and Miss Potts is still in her meeting, would you like to contact any of them” responds the AI.
She walks into her room and is blinded by the glaring sun pointing directly into her room. She squints her eyes, the New York skyline’s a beautiful view when you’re not blinded. “no thank you Friday,I was just wondering. Could you close all the blinds in my room?”
The blinds in her room close, and laura gets in bed and shuts her eyes.
Four hours later Friday wakes her up, she opens her eyes covered in sweat and drool.
“Miss potts has asked you to come to the dining room for dinner” announces friday
laura freshens herself up, and heads to the dinner table, taking in the smell of cheeseburgers.
Pepper smiles “I made you your favourite, cheeseburgers”
“they were my favourite before they were hers.” Tony replies half jokingly.
laura helps set the plates for dinner, and the three of them sit down, “how was school kid?” Asks Tony.
“It was really good, I talked to a lot of people, sat with these girls at lunch and everyone’s been really nice to me” she responds genuinely
“Tell us about your friends honey?” Pepper asks curiously.
“ well, the main ones so far are these three girls I sit with at lunch; Aaliyah, Julia, and Alice. Everyone at this school’s smart and I like it.” She responds
“Any cute boys?” Pepper questions with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Tony’s smile slowly fades into a serious expression, and he listens attentively.
“There was this cute boy that showed me around school and that’s about it but he was quite we barely spoke”, responds laura , pepper smiles.
Tony on the other hand, does not look pleased with her response “aren’t you too young to be dating?”
“Tony she’s 15” chuckles pepper.
The conversation changes topics and, shifts to pepper and Tony’s meetings.
“Yeah how was the accords meeting Tony any progress?” Asks pepper.
“No none at all.” he says slightly frustrated at the situation.
“Yeah there’s no avengers at all, we really need more heros” suggests laura .
“Yeah kid we do” replies Tony.
“Which is why, I think-“
Before the girl can even finish her sentence Tony cuts her off “no.”
“You didn’t even let me finish, I’m trained, I can fight and we need more hero’s who better then me?” she responds.
“No” he raises his voice startling pepper and laura .
He notices there reactions and softens it slightly “I admire the confidence but, It’s a dangerous job kid, and you shouldn’t get involved in any of it. ” He says sternly
“But-“
“No but’s, zip it. I don’t want to have this conversation again.” He asserts, a bitter and serious expression on his face.
laura , excuses herself from the table immediately, and rushes to her room upset.
Half an hour later, pepper asks “friday can you ask laura if it’s okay for me to come into her room?”
laura agrees, and pepper comes in, and sits on her bed “hey so with dinner, you know Tony he’s just worried about you.”
laura sits up on her bed and agrees “I know”
pepper sees it as a sign she’s saying the right thing “he just doesn’t want you getting hurt. A lot of people have died being a hero, remember pietro?”
laura nods, pepper continues “he’s scared of losing you, and he always has been. Remember the anxiety attacks he used to have a while back over me and you?”.
“Yeah I know. I’m sorry.” She confesses with sincerity etched on her face.
Pepper pulls laura in for a hug “I know honey, he did react a bit harshly though so I will talk to him about that but you should sleep, you have school tomorrow.”
The girls say their good nights and Pepper leaves and heads to the lab, where a frustrated Tony works on new tech for his suits.
Black sabbath plays at a deafeningly loud volume, “friday can you please pause the music” she asks as she enters the lab.
Before pepper, says anything Tony initiates the conversation “Pepper, I just-“
“It’s okay Tony, I know. I explained it to her, and she understood. I just wish you could have been more gentle with her is all” she says gently.
“I know I should have, im sorry. And thank you for talking to her” he responds, relieved that pepper isn’t angry at him.
“You’re welcome but you have to talk to her yourself too.” Pepper adds
“Okay.” Tony accepts. he’s sure that after her talk with pepper, laura will be more then understanding. He really doesn’t want to lose her, she’s all he has.
“oh and get some sleep.. Friday when it’s 1am engage a protocol that turns off lab equipment and requires Mr stark to sleep.”
Tony despite being annoyed, can’t be upset, she cares a lot about him and without her he’d be a mess “goodnight pepper.”
