Reed came home to an empty apartment. There was no sign of Sue. At first the leader of the world's greatest superhero team thought his wife was out shopping or at an early morning hair appointment. "Story of our marriage," he said to the vastness about him. "When She's in the mood, I'm busy in the lab and when I'm in the mood she's nowhere to be found!" The grey-templed scientist strode to the bathroom to beat off when his blood froze in his veins. Taped to the medicine chest mirror were half a dozen polaroid photographs of Sue completely naked, bound and gagged. Doom loomed in the background, evil incarnate. In the center of circle of polaroids was a note addressed to him. In a mixture of rage and concern, Reed untaped the folded letter.

Gift? thought Reed. His doorbell rang. Opening the door revealed a courier from a standard delivery service. He handed Reed a small gift wrapped box and explained the his gratuity had already been paid. Reed knew it would be pointless to question the delivery boy. He accepted the box and closed the front door. With frenzied hands, Reed tore away the gift wrap inside he found a satin jewelry box. His heart falling from orbit, Reed opened the satin box, inside he found Sue's engagement and wedding rings. Only now did the full impact hit him and he broke down in tears.
