Chapter 4
Wade knew it was ridiculous in a way to get jealous of a person you met in less than a couple of days, but we're not talking about someone ordinary, we're talking about Logan, the quintessential X-men, a variant of the man who was a hero who saved people in this one.
But he's not blind to see that the Logan he brought from his universe is in pieces despite being in a depressed phase his beauty hasn't diminished, damn, he doesn't blame you if you consider Logan incredibly handsome, and at first, he hated him deeply that idea, he's spent years of his life is by your side, starting as friends, taking things little by little, to finally date you, wait for you when you've told him you're not ready to make love yet (yes, Wade wants to make love to you, plus other wild things) to come to Mr. I am tough and make anyone with good taste fall in love with me, and come and want to win you over.
He doesn't care so much if the two of you were strangers, but he hesitates even having you in your arms while you're sleeping in the shared bed. You don't know Logan beyond professionalism, but shit, what a coincidence that the Logan he found you were the love of his life in his universe, you were his fucking wife, but why does Wade bother? if you're not that version, you're someone else.
Right?
Logan's little brain hasn't noticed that yet, because he's caught him watching you as someone looks at a person he loves, respects, and adores, making him regret giving you a place to stay.
He gives you some tender kisses by your head and ends up on your shoulder and can feel your skin, you don't react to his affection, since you are completely asleep, why the hell does he care if he is the very messiah of the universe? you have proven to be in tune with him, to support him despite everything he has done to save his timeline, he recognizes that he did it mainly for you, to see you again another day of his life, and this time they can share a love life that grew over the years.
But thinking about it more and more, it's not Logan's fault that the coincidences happened either, the two of you despite having a big difference in beliefs, attitudes, and personalities were able to team up, disintegrate the bald girl, and get home safely.
You're not surprised to realize that Mary is better behaved than the dynamic duo of Wade and Logan, she obediently moves when you move by taking her on a leash which is almost unnecessary as she follows you around smoothly, you wish you had thought of having some leashes for Wade and Logan before of how much they move on your side, forgetting that they are incognito and in a public place.
You adjust your cap and your sunglasses to hide your face, you feel a little bad hiding your identity when there is nothing wrong with being a mutant, but in this situation where Logan is one of the biggest enigmas of the moment is better to keep a low profile, obviously for Wade that doesn't exist and the good side is that he doesn't have to hide since his true identity is intact, on the other hand Logan also had to wear a cap with a sunglasses adorning his face to hide, but honestly that man also stands out too much with his mysterious aura and his height, his way of walking made that no stranger would approach him to ask him about his number or if he knew he looked like the so famous Wolverine.
You devised this shopping trip as a sort of distraction after what had happened, but it turned out to be a bit complicated when Wade left along with Logan, exactly where to? you don't know, but Mary keeps you good company when she lets herself be photographed, so, you just hope they're not causing a ruckus.
A little jingling of your watch made your body bristle in alert, that recognizable sound of your special watch tells you that you are receiving a signal to go to the academy, it's not an absolute emergency signal, but the watch blinks with a yellow color indicating you that your presence is needed.
"Shit," you curse under your breath as you accept the signal by moving the mechanism of your watch, you wanted to avoid all this mess, with how little you have known Logan you know that what you least want is some kind of judgment towards his person by the X-men, but you can't refuse a signal either, that's in your principles, Wade sometimes teased that you sin of good person and it's possible that yes, but still you hesitated to accept the signal because of Logan, he's not ready.
Before you call Wade to inquire about his whereabouts, he appears in your view walking towards you along with a newly changed Logan, making him look much, much better than he did in Wade's pajamas (although you also think he looked cute like that) you hesitate a bit as you watch them walk, they look amazing in your opinion even though Wade is wearing a kitten shirt, you couldn't help but smile fondly as Wade has gotten himself another friend, another adventure buddy who puts up with Wade to some extent and walks beside him.
When they are already less than a meter away from you they stop and you are the first to speak "Looks like they had fun without me," you opine without disguising that you are seeing Logan's new look, the sunglasses help a lot to not look like some kind of stalker, but you are really surprised to see him like this, your heart is with Wade but you are not blind like Al, Logan is handsome, so much so that even Wade seems a little admired by Logan's presence, it is admiration, isn't it?
"Oh, yes, we received some coupons because of Mr. I'm lovely give me all your coupons he made us get too many" Wade shows you a bunch of coupons in his hand which makes your eyes sparkle, but you shake your head, as much as you wanted to admire Logan's new look and see the new coupons to buy other things, you keep feeling the watch on your wrist reminding you of what is coming.
"Great, coupons are always welcome" You take the coupons in one of your free hands while with the other you hold the strap of Mary who is excited to see her dad again, you turn slightly to look at Logan "And by the way, um, you look good," you tell him shyly giving a simple compliment and he flashes you a smile "but guess what, we have some bad news".
"What happened?" Logan doesn't hesitate to ask dropping his smile and frowning,
Wade blurts out recklessly "They canceled the fantastic four?" he gasps in surprise, but you shake your head in confusion.
"What? no!" you grab some air for what you're about to say "They just sent me a signal, they need me at the academy, and most likely it's because of you" You point to Logan with your hand on the leash, Mary affectionately approaches Logan who already shows a grumpy grimace, not because of the little dog, but because of what you had just said.
The X-men are looking for him, and he doesn't know, why they simply can't leave him alone when he is not that new replacement for Logan if they are looking for him. deep down, he thinks that this annoyance that runs through his body is because he wouldn't know how to react if he saw the academy, going back to the people he let die several years ago, his classmates, his family, again having to walk those same corridors he hated and now he is afraid to meet them again.
He wants to snarl at the whole world, scream in their face to stay out of their business, but in this new universe what business is on him?...he has come to this new life already shared by you and Wade, basically accepted in your little circle and that frustrates him more, he is supposed to get away from you, to forget your face and move on.
But when you take off your sunglasses to look him in the eye for an answer, he is starting to give up and move on in your life, even Wade looks at him with that stupid uncertain face, how frustrating to have people who have cared about him after so many years, when he has been alone, god, he needs a drink, or better yet, a whole bottle to smooth out the problems he makes for himself.
"Fuck them," Logan replies sullenly overwhelmed at the mere thought of interacting with his...his alternate team, he hates feeling like a coward when it comes to that subject, he talked it over with that variant little girl at a campfire because he thought it would be the last time he'd see her, or she'd see him, but he still feels terrified by his nightmares and it doesn't help that you keep looking at him with those glowing eyes that silently give him hope.
You don't mind his rudeness, Wade smiles at Logan's anger, not that he likes the same group that rejected him either.
"I know you don't want to, but it's okay, they'll ask for an explanation, I'll give it to them and that's it! It won't go any further," you indicate to them as if you were convincing yourself, instead of the men in front of you.
"I'll go with you," Wade offers but you refuse, you appreciate his intention, but he's already done his part, now it's your turn.
"No way, last time you went you made a complete mess," you remind him intending to get him to agree to let you go alone.
"I didn't know the teacher's chair was a sacred thing!".
Wade did know.
You snort with a smile at his antics, he knows when to lower your nervousness and that makes you smile fondly at him "I'm serious, I'll be able to do this alone" you assure them.
"We know," Logan tells you confidently and his words also encourage you, why be afraid if you are only going to talk to your team?
You sneak a look to see if anyone in the mall is watching them but you don't notice anything strange besides the looks the civilians give Wade and Logan, the low profile doesn't work for the two of them, they stand out too much.
You hand the puppy to Wade "She's been really good, she deserves some treats, give her some, right? You were really good, honey?" you make absurd faces at Mary to get her to react but she only tries to reach for your face to lick it, Wade holds it fearlessly looking at you lovingly as you spoil the variant puppy of his, while Logan looks at the two of you skeptically, he can't believe you're so in love with that dog.
Wait, he's being jealous of a canine being? No, of course not, it's not that Mary is a horrible dog but he's a little annoyed that you show more affection to a dog than to him, But how to complain? How to show his real jealousy when you barely give him the time of day?
"Well, I'll go, I'll let you know what happened, maybe it's just something different!" you smile at both of them, hoping that this won't get too major and that at the end of the day, you'll end up coming home to see them again.
You took one step at a time towards Charles' office, you tried to relax as much as possible but still, your hands started to sweat, you hadn't done anything wrong, other than give a place to stay to a possible anomaly from another universe, you hadn't thought that letting Logan stay could lead to some consequences, But if you have to face your group then there is no other way.
You haven't felt this nervous about going to the professor's office since you were a young girl just discovering your mutant side. Now you go for something different, to explain yourself about Logan.
You knock politely on the office door and who opens the door for you is Scott, he quickly welcomes you by acknowledging you with a big hug, and you receive him with surprise, it's been weeks since you saw the whole group, besides you focused more on Wade and living with his circle, he says your name with affection like a brother says to his younger sister "Good to see you, my friend" he says letting you in and you look at the others of the team present, you greeted them all with fraternal hugs, Jean smiles jovially at you seeing you get so happy to see her healthy and safe from her very early pregnancy.
"Oh! wow! we are almost going to have a little Scottie or a Jenny!" you tell her cheesily (a habit Wade probably stuck you with) you had almost forgotten why they had made that sign, forget it for the happiness of seeing your friends again.
"It's going to be a boy," Jean tells you relaxed and you can't believe how fast you are going to be an aunt, it seems that time is passing so fast for you and the team, everyone is doing their life, and that would have saddened you if it wasn't because you are also developing socially outside the academy, you are happy to be with Wade and well, Logan doesn't come bad to the mix, it's like he is a breath of fresh air that you don't mind his presence.
"Looks like we're all gathered now," the professor's voice makes you change your mellow mode to a more serious one.
You stop stroking Jean's stomach in favor of listening, the professor gave them a soft smile as he witnessed his favorite students, his confidants "In addition to celebrating the fortune of successful missions, we need to talk about an important topic" he speaks without prejudice, the group immediately paid attention to him without objection, you included.
The professor calls your name and you move towards him to greet him, he shakes your hand gently and you feel your mind relax instantly "We've seen the news recently, your friend, Deadpool, has done his thing, right?" he comments.
Your tense face relaxes at the mention of Wade "Yeah, you know how he is...he can be mischievous at times," you manage to say but Scott's offended snort interrupts you already frowning.
"He's a mercenary, a terrorist at worst, I've already told you he's not a good influence on you, or any of the team" Scott bringing out his protective side opines with his arms crossed, the other hand, rolling your eyes, this isn't about Wade but about Logan, you can't help but get a little angry at the disdain some people have for Wade or rather Deadpool, they judge him without even knowing him.
"You're going to have to get used to it Scott, because I'm already his partner, and yes, Professor, he's made a mess of some places but he's done it in favor of saving this world" the surprised faces of some of your teammates makes you laugh, yes, it's hardly believable that a mercenary like Wade would have thought of saving the world without the help of the X-men, but it happened.
"What?" Scott is the first to ask incredulously, doubting your word but he knows you don't lie with that serious stuff.
"She's not lying" Jean reveals approaching her husband to stroke his arm to reassure him, he strokes the bridge of his nose with his eyes completely closed, taking off for a few seconds his ruby glasses, you hold back the urge to laugh at his reaction, like you told him you secretly married Wade in Vegas or something.
"Thank you, Jean" you give a grateful smile to your friend "I can explain but it will take a little time," you clarify turning to see the professor he already has a thoughtful face.
"Sounds good to me, I think there is a lot to talk about, for example, the return of our dear Logan," the Professor says and you swallow saliva at that, it's time to say it.
"About that...I can also explain too," You let out a nervous laugh, and Scott says your name with an accusatory tone as if telling you to spill everything at once "That's right, Logan came back, but he's not him Logan from this universe, but from another one that Wade found in several multidimensional trips, since the TVA, or well the time cops went for him on his birthday, to tell him that our timeline was in danger because the Logan from this universe sacrificed himself in that mission, remember? well, the thing is that he was able to save the universe, and the Logan he brought with him wanted to stay here!" you explain everything at once, in a fast way that after saying everything you had to stop for a few seconds to take a breath because of the many words you said in a short time, the room was silent for a few seconds while they assimilated your words.
"Interesting," the professor comments a little surprised, but not a single moment doubting you, although your nervous gestures may denote some lie, he well knows that you have not lied, as crazy as it sounds, what you just said is the truth, or rather your version of the story.
Scott silently turns slightly to look at his wife, she nods her head silently, confirming that what you are saying is true "I know it's hard to believe but it happened, and about this new Logan..." You avoid the professor's gaze although he doesn't miss a thing "I am getting to know him and he seems to be a good man, he is kind although he is still reserved."
"Where is this different Logan?" Jean is the one asking now.
"He is living with me right now, it seems that something happened in his universe that makes him not want to come to the academy," You put your hand on your chin starting to theorize Logan's reason and his lack of excitement for coming here, but you respect him "He hasn't told me why but I won't force him if he doesn't want to."
"And if this alleged Logan is a threat?...he may come from a completely different universe than ours" The man in red glasses is the one offering this possible viewpoint, his protective side is doing the talking for him, he doesn't know this Logan who has befriended Deadpool and that says a lot about him.
"You're wrong Scott, that Logan also helped Wade save the world even though it's not his! You don't believe me when I tell you he's nice?" you frown at your friend's stubbornness, it's also known that Scott never liked the Logan of this universe, and he sighs in conflict.
"Of course, I believe you, but what you just told us takes us by surprise, are you sure that this Logan is from another universe and not some sort of resurrection?" he questions you more open to dialogue with you.
You nod your head at the question, the professor raises his hand slightly to speak "It is amazing how travel between dimensions is possible and we must respect what Logan prefers, he may be adapting to this new world, but at some point, he is going to have to talk, right?" the professor turns to you.
"Yes, I hope so, I assure you he is not the same Logan he was for us but that doesn't mean he is bad" you start to dialogue "And I wasn't close to him but I know for some of you yes, he is not ready yet, but he is doing the right thing".
Jean comes up to you to hug you, maybe it's the pregnancy hormones making her more sensitive but you accept it anyway for expressing her support.
"Ugh, Okay" Scott comments defeated, not that he likes arguing with his buddies either, but the shock of seeing Logan alive is still there "But Deadpool is going to have to come along to argue about this too, you can't defend them all the time."
You grimace at his comment, you don't know which is worse, Wade talking to Scott or Logan talking to Scott, they are both provocateurs that make him blow smoke out of his ears (not in the literal sense) of how angry he can get, not that Scott hates pranksters, but it makes him specifically angry at these men who think they can get away with anything without any consequences.
"By the way,” Charles says your name “Can you explain exactly what happened?" the professor again inquires about what you said and you more sensibly start talking about how Wade and Logan defeated Cassandra Nova.
Some have mocked Wade for why he let himself be tamed at your hand, even when they were friends he wouldn't go anywhere if they didn't accept you, and he doesn't deny that kind of rumor, you have changed his life in many ways, but without a doubt, the one who is getting the whipping record is the man you are watching drink another beer with a melancholy face.
Wade almost rolls his eyes at Logan trapped in a kind of self-pity where he is still trying to get over the fact that he is no longer in that world where he was alone, why not just accept that this is his new life and that's it? he has a place to stay, they have a loving dog, and above all they have you, the nicknamed sugar mommy of the two, so he shouldn't complain.
Even though sometimes jealousy overcomes him, he is also struck by the burly man with the hard face and a pair of horns formed in his hair naturally like a cat, he is curious about what Logan has been through, and today when they go clothes shopping it wasn't such a bad outing, he was able to get some clothes a little more formal than his standard sweatshirts and pajamas, he doesn't deny that Logan looks so handsome in them new clothes that he wasn't surprised that even you got a look at him.
"Do you think she did well?" Wade asks coming closer and sitting next to his on the couch pointing directly at the TV in the living room, it's like a sixth sense for Wade to befriend the most unpredictable people you can think of, all different from each other, he looks at Logan unashamedly, it doesn't go unnoticed that he need to befriend him despite his interest in you, he trusts you and the jealousy disappears when Logan says something funny or he lowers his mood and is more relaxed with Wade.
Maybe foolishly he thinks, after the regret of letting him stay by living with him and that the minutes they are living together don't involve saving the world, Wade feels relaxed by his side, with that urge to joke around and get even a smile out of that grumpy ass Logan.
"Sure I do" he mumbles to her ignoring her gaze taking a swig of his beer and looking at the TV where they are showing an action movie "Do you think something bad could have happened?" Logan asks quietly almost as a whisper, starting to get drowsy, but refusing to sleep since you still haven't gotten back from your meeting with the X-men.
"Nah," Wade relaxes his posture on the couch, returning in comfortable silence, Mary is under his feet sleeping with her tongue out on his newly purchased bed "And what was she like in your universe?" he asks without thinking, curiosity speaking for him.
"Fuck you, I'm not telling you anything" Logan curses in annoyance, Wade doesn't even flinch at his refusal.
"Yeah, well, we're going to have to talk about that for this to work," he says as if it's obvious and the bearded man arches his eyebrow at that.
"About us?" Logan lets out a derisive laugh "There's nothing here, raisin face."
"Oh yeah, try to deny it all you want but the sexual tension is through the roof," Wade confessed bluntly, wanting to get a reaction out of the man next to him who only looked at him more annoyed and growled at him no longer having patience.
"No shit," Logan leaves his beer half on the little glass table that decorates the living room and is near the couch, without asking Wade he looks for his box of cigarettes, he still hasn't been able to get tobacco to his liking so he settles for that "I don't want to think about the past anymore," he releases a puff of his cigarette to turn to Wade "So you better shut up, what happened there was an accident, understand?" he tells him as a warning, but it seems Wade didn't care.
Wade smiles at him without showing his teeth and Logan notices it, he doesn't turn to see him but his eyes go to him without moving his face "What?" the man with the cigar in his mouth asks him roughly.
"Nothing," Wade tells him with no apparent malice but that annoys Logan, he doesn't know what this fool is up to.
"Spit it out," Logan tries to get information out of him once again but Wade plays disinterestedly.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Wade," Logan warns him already angry, he's impressed how the scarred man in the face can get on his nerves so fast, not even Scott pissed him off so much and that was a show-off.
"If the X-men were looking for you even though my sweetie talked to them, what would you do?".
Logan sighed letting more smoke out of his mouth, dropping his shoulders at Wade's good question, surprisingly setting him thinking "I don't know, I'd leave" Logan answered truthfully and being curt, he wasn't ready to see them yet and if their staying at your apartment was a problem, as much as he likes seeing you he would leave so long as he didn't bother you in front of the X-men, you've always fit into that girl scout style noble mutant archetype that for some people you were kind of corny, but for him it was something to fall in love with, that's why he remains skeptical that you're in love with Wade, the opposite of you, a complete jerk.
"Wise decision, although that would make my Pookie sad," Wade comments, and Logan almost throws the almost finished cigarette towards his face, what's the need to give yourself cheesy names when you already have a nice name of your own...did he even sound like that when he gave you nicknames?
"It's best for all three of us," Logan finishes the conversation finishing his cigarette and releasing his last puff half-heartedly, he opens his eyes at the new sensation of a slight weight on his shoulder, did he...Wade had leaned on his shoulder...and when he stood so close to him?
"Yeah...though knowing her, she'll hold the well the situation" Wade mumbles placidly as if falling asleep and Logan growls at him at the contact, he makes a sharp motion with his shoulder to get him off but sometimes he forgets that Wade is also a mutant with his abilities and stays strong in leaning on him.
Before you push him off your side the door opens and Logan quickly perks up, relieved to have you back home intact, you enter the apartment with one hand busy clutching a plastic bag.
"Sweetheart!" Wade squeals in delight as if he hasn't seen you for years when you were only gone for a few hours.
"Hey guys," you comment with a tired smile leaving the bag on the kitchen table "Things went better than I expected, although they asked quite a few questions" you laugh letting out a yawn, living with your team left you without energy, it was like some kind of weird trial where you were Wade and Logan's lawyer.
Wade, now standing up, greets you with a hug and you close your eyes for comfort, stealthily rubbing your face between Wade's chest, missing his muscular build "So you're not taking Logan to academy detention? he's been absent all semester" Wade jokes and you're distracted, still feeling his clothes between your face.
"We'll be fine," you remove your face from Wade's chest to breathe again "They've accepted Logan's estrangement, but they still want both of you to show up," you tell them and with Logan also standing a few feet away from you and Wade you get a good look at him, the scarred man lets out a sound of disgust, he and the X-men aren't that close since he tried to be one.
At the same time, Logan watches you closely and with something you can't quite decipher but his barely perceptible smile gives away his mood. "Thank you..." he says putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans and you still with drowsiness in your system smile tiredly, yes, the three of you will be fine, that's for sure.
