Chapter 1

Your morning coffee is a good thing to wake you up completely, some caffeine makes your sleepy eyes clear and you can stop yawning, like an autopilot in your brain, you put the hot water in your favorite mug, A handcrafted mug with dents and a decent varnish written with your name, a gift from Wade of course, it wasn't the perfect mug, it's barely functional but to you it's beautiful.

You put another cup for Wade, he gets up early to go to work, and on certain occasions, you prepare him something to eat "Good morning, I hope you had a good sleep," you comment lightly, without even turning around you prepare him a simple breakfast.

"Damn, how did you hear me?" he asks you and you see that he already has the stapler in his hands, you take the two cups and put them on the small kitchen table.

"Don't forget I'm still a mutant, Wade," you say sipping your well-deserved coffee, if it's not the coffee that wakes you up it's your friend, with his agitated attitude that makes you giggle.

"Of course not," he comments somewhat hurriedly, stapling his toupee painlessly, if it were some normal person it would be excruciating, But we're not talking about someone normal, right?

You stared at him while drinking your coffee, impressed by how sometimes life can change, the man in front of you is not the same man you knew, he is still the same Wade who jokes and drops a joke a minute but he is no longer the bloody and uncontrolled Deadpool he used to be, that mercenary who killed people every day and without his suit so stained with blood, it seems he replaced it with an ordinary person's suit.

"Are you seriously going to wear that thing?" you jokingly tell him talking about his fake wig "You look better without it."

"It's a balayage and yes, it looks beautiful on me thank you for saying so," he answered cynically and you grimaced at the sounds of the staplers fitting into his skull. You go back to drinking your coffee, maybe you've gotten used to having Wade as a friend, or rather as a roomie, you thought it was going to be worse but he behaved better than you expected, maybe because he didn't have anywhere else to go.

"Hey, by any chance...what's your favorite flavor of cake?" you ask trying to sound natural but you can't hide your true intentions, because Wade stops his routine of putting staples in your head and gives you a "You're not fooling anyone" look.

"Why do you want to know? Will you throw me an unforgettable party?" he turns to the mirror to finish putting on his wig "If it's not project x style I don't want anything."

You get up from your seat to see what his work badge is wearing "You're going to have to settle for a small gathering," You take his badge and adjust it accordingly, you notice the look Wade gives you in silence, that look that is more intimate full of affection "Unless if you really want a big party I can invite some friends, maybe some X-men..." you suggest in a low voice, if he wants a big party you wouldn't deny him.

"I prefer something simple," he matches your low tone of voice and you smile at him, you knew he would prefer something more private when it comes to his birthday, you make sure his badge and uniform are okay, even though his wig seems a little off on him you like seeing him in civilian clothes beyond his pajamas and Hawaiian shirts.

"You still haven't answered my question."

"Surprise me," he says to you with an infectious smile, even with his gaunt face, and his skin completely scarred, his charm doesn't diminish, even if you didn't know him before his mutation you consider him handsome, among mutants those things don't matter.

You let him go as he is late for work, as if they were a married couple he says goodbye to you and leaves quickly with his lunch in hand "Sell lots of cars, Wade!" you yell to him when he is already at the door "And say hello to Peter for me!".

You hear a confirming reply and chuckle as you hear him stumble, the apartment feels quieter without Wade inside, and you sigh with some weariness, today you're going to spend shopping for your roomie's birthday stuff for tomorrow, you let out a sigh at the implication, since when are you so whipped by that chattering man?

You lie to yourself every day telling yourself that there is nothing to feel, that you and Wade are just roommates, and that in the best-case scenario, he might consider you your best friend, he is much more outgoing than you, but deep in your heart you silently long for him to feel the same way about you.

You met him at one of his lowest moments (which one?) when Colossus brought him to the mansion to turn him into an X-men, you couldn't help but empathize with him because of his mourning, even though he defended himself by taking the humor out of things it was kind of noticeable that he was having a very very bad time.

But you were there by his side, you recognized that Colossus was too strict with what it is to be an X-men, as much as you like the idea of a Deadpool dressed in a uniform with the X you know Wade doesn't fit the mold to be one of the team. Even the others knew it would be a waste of time trying to recruit Wade they didn't even bother to deal with him, Colossus, you, and a couple of students only deigned to talk to him.

Fortunately, things got better, Wade was somehow able to travel back in time to make amends for his mistakes, thus saving his girlfriend Vanessa.

Well now, his ex-girlfriend, Vanessa.

Since Wade brought Vanessa to life you noticed him more...mature, so to speak, you never got involved in their relationship and you considered it a good thing for Wade even though it hurt you, when you least expected it you found him one day in your apartment eating ice cream and watching a soap opera with his face covered in tears, Vanessa had cut him off.

To this day you didn't ask him why they broke up, but you were there too, consoling him for his breakup, that's what friends are for, right? You were still glad that he had stopped with his suicide attempts, yes, he was saddened, but he wasn't completely heartbroken like when you first met him.

And well, not to mention when he was rejected by the Avengers, you didn't understand what he was referring to but that's what made him retire as a mercenary, as Deadpool, now becoming Wade Wilson, the used car salesman. It's been a few years now and you still get that tingly feeling in your stomach when you're with him even though his red suit is full of dust, you've met new facets of him that you hadn't seen before.

You are distracted from your thoughts by looking at a list Wade made some time ago about what would be his dream party, you crossed off the things that would be impossible to get like having Magneto's helmet as a gift, but there were other acceptable things like a decoration and birthday hats.

You just hope this party cheers him up, it doesn't go unnoticed by you that he's been feeling discouraged lately, missing being Deadpool But settling for the life of someone normal.

"Surprise!!!" all the guests shout in unison, you take a picture with your camera to have as a souvenir of Wade's surprised face before the confetti and the screams, you laugh to see him bewildered before the party that he already knew was going on to take place, almost as if he had been provoked a scare, with a party blower you hug Wade to congratulate him, in the response he squeezes you in his arms.

The party turned out well, seeing the guests living comfortably, you looked around the room looking for any inconvenience but there was nothing, the atmosphere was good and you decided to join the conversation that the mutant couple had with Wade, you hear how Ellie makes fun of your roomie's toupee, will there be a day when those two get along well?

Yukio with her optimism compliments Wade on his toupee and you jump into the conversation "I still say you look better without that squirrel on your head," you comment looking at him, he opens his mouth pretending to be offended to the max, Yukio lets out a chuckle at the comparison and Ellie takes from her glass to hide her smile.

"You think I look good?" Wade hesitates a bit and you widen your eyes in amusement, did he think you were joking...today he seems more clueless than usual.

You tell him a simple "No" and he snorts.

Seeing your friend celebrating his birthday was a breath of fresh air, at cake time you bring out the rectangular cake you had made with red and black decorations, in the middle decorated with a cursive letter:

Happy Birthday, Wade!

"Wow, it's pretty I bet it tastes delicious..." Wade himself commented nervously as he looked at the cake. All eyes were on him and he usually liked that, but that nervousness itching his insides was for different reasons, Vanessa stood by his side. Still, he only stays for a few seconds watching you put the cake on the table, moving but at the same time conflicted with what he is feeling, you gave him this nice cake and this nice party, how could he be lucky enough to have you? He hates selling cars, but when you place a small candle in the middle of his cake, he knows he will sell cars all his life as long as you give him a cake nice.

"It's time to blow out the candle, and make a wish," Vanessa encourages him and Wade comes out of his reflective shock.

He thanked as earnestly as he could the others for being here, celebrating one more year of life or one year less for his death. (As if that were possible) Before he bent down to blow out the small candle his eyes turned to you, you smiled at him and he knew that everything would be alright, that the brightness in your eyes made him feel relieved that you had been with him after all these years....

You also felt his gaze, you frowned at the little interaction, I wish you had the professor's powers to be able to read minds, you wish you knew what your roomie was thinking right now, what does it mean? Is it just thanks? Or something else?

Wade blows out the candle, thinking of you.

As he blows out the candles, there is a knock on the door and you turn around confused, you had not invited someone else, and you move towards the door to find out who it is, you intuit that it must be another X-men coming to say hello, but Wade stops you by touching your shoulder.

"I got it," he tells you and you let him get the visit from the door, how overprotective.

Wade leaves the apartment and you take the opportunity to mingle with the others, you try to forget the little interaction of his cake, this is the night to enjoy and have fun, you sit on the couch with Mrs. Al and offer her a piece of cake "Are you having fun?" you ask her.

"This is as much fun as a funeral, dear, can't I have some pixie dust?" she remarks grumpily at the lack of illegality of this party.

"I can't, Wade told me not to give you anything," you tell her and you see her grimace and you see she keeps her frown What's wrong, Al?" you question her without any malice, the cake flavor is too sweet? the music is too loud?

"You and Wade," she answers and turns slightly to what she thinks where you are "Did you two fuck already?".

You almost spit out your cake, it's not like you were embarrassed by his language, hell, if you couldn't stand that kind of talk you wouldn't even be friends with Wade, but rather the context made you blush "What are you talking about?".

"I'm blind but I'm not stupid," she tells you smiling noticing your shyness "Wade is crazy about you if you haven't noticed," she opines saying things to the point, without smoothing things over and that suddenly took you by surprise.

You drop your back on the couch to sit comfortably, it was too obvious that you liked Wade, but to be told by Al, who has known Wade the longest than you, made you wonder, does he like you?

Before you can say anything to him, try to probe further into why he says your roommate is crazy about you, your instincts sharpen, sensing a fear, perceived outwardly, it's Wade's fear.

Without thinking too much you leave Mrs. Al to go straight to the door, there was no trace of your friend and that ignited your powers, looking for something from him "Wade?!" you ask in the empty hallway, you try to reason calmly without coming up with rash ideas, he probably went out to smoke or buy something, but if that had happened he would have told you, you look down to see his toupee on the floor, it could be mistaken for a giant ball of fluff.

Oh no.

You wake up with slight fatigue, you decided to sleep on the couch when the party was over, and for several hours you didn't know about the whereabouts of your roomie but despite being worried it's not something to be afraid of, Wade knows how to defend himself and well, it's impossible to do him permanent physical harm so you let it go, the other guests at the party also understood that if Wade left it was for whatever reason, maybe he was distracted by something or just wanted to have a moment alone, anyway you said goodbye to the guests thanking them for coming to the party, the last one to leave was Vanessa, before leaving they had a little chat, a brief one but you still don't forget it.

"Thanks for coming seriously, Wade was glad you came," you tell him honestly, it was good of him to keep in healthy contact with your friend, and you're glad he seems to be doing well in life.

"Well, I wanted to congratulate him, know how he was doing and I'm proud that he's doing well."

"Yes..." you take a few seconds to answer him, you recognize that even if your roommate is doing things the right way it's not the same as when he was a mercenary.

"and that he got someone who had the patience for him, you make a very" she looks for the word to refer to you "singular couple”.

"Oh, no, we're not dating" you laugh nervously, heck, you're an X-men, but when you talk to a civilian about your crush you get like this?

Now the surprised one is Vanessa who asks you "Oh, really? he told me that he and you are trying."

Unconsciously you smile at that, Wade had just told the love of his life that he is dating you? the first thing that comes to your mind is that he said it just to make Vanessa jealous, but you observe her well and you don't notice her angry at all she seems quite happy that you are with him and that makes you slip your doubts, first then it was Al, then her, did everybody know but you?

You almost fall asleep again at the reminder of Vanessa's talk, something so unexpected but music to your ears, an indelicate jolt wakes you up completely, opening your eyes at the possible threat of a stranger you take the nearest hand you see and squeeze it hard, you hear the sharp cry of pain But it sounds feigned...

Wait a minute, you recognize that voice.

"Wade?" you ask with your eyes puffy from sleep, your hair a bit disheveled for a few seconds you thought it was a very weird dream or even an optical illusion, the man crouched next to the couch was Wade but dressed as Deadpool.

You open your eyes in surprise, it's been a long, long time since you last saw him in his red suit, with his mask with white pupils "Listen, I don't have much time, I came just to warn you," he caresses your face with his unfractured hand, you feel the leather of his gloves providing a warm feeling.

"What's going on?" you ask beginning to get alarmed "Did they hurt you? Is someone looking for you?".

"Yes and yes" he answers your questions quickly "I just found out I'm the Marvel Jesus" he speaks with great seriousness but you don't understand.

"What?" You manage to ask puzzled "What the fuck are you talking about?".

"I don't have that much time to explain it to you, but how I wish I had, just-" he stops himself speaking quickly "I want to tell you that I love you."

You sit stiffly before the declaration, seriously it was not a psychic illusion? made by some mutant, you even looked if there was any hidden camera, it may be a joke on his part but you do not hear him laugh "What?" Is the only thing you manage to utter stupefied at such a declaration of love.

"I know it's kind of crazy, but I believe it, from the moment you fawned over my Taylor Kitties shirt I knew you would be different," You laugh at the mention of his t-shirt and he continues "And the weather cops are chasing me, that made me realize there are people I need to protect".

"I feel the same way too, Wade, but tell me what's going on? Why do you have your suit and you left without saying goodbye?" you speak with no filter whatsoever, increasingly concerned because Wade himself doesn't seem to have much time for your jokes "And time cops, what's that?".

"Shhh," he puts a finger on your lips to silence you "You are so cute when you're confused but I have to go, I need to find a Wolverine."

"Wolverine? But he's dead," you inform him wanting explanations from him but he stands up and walks away from you, still seeing you even though his mask is hiding his facial expressions, that worry you had still doesn't disappear.

"If you need backup, you know where to find me..." you show him your wrist at first glance it looks like a normal watch but both Wade and you are aware of what it means, you notice how the white pupils in his suit get bigger because of your comment, this watch is too important for you as it is the direct communication with your group.

He is perplexed that you care about him, he lets out a chuckle and shakes his head "No, sweetheart, I'll take care of this," he answers you almost as a promise and you look at him with complicity, he still hasn't told you the reason why he left in the middle of his birthday and at night he comes back with his red suit and a strange looking cell phone in his hands, but used to his crazy and unpredictable adventures, you let him go, even if you still have his quick confession fresh in your mind you are calm that he is in one piece.

"I'll be back when you least expect it, we need a lot to talk about," Wade speaks again and you nod your head gawking, that suit suits him well and you haven't seen him in action for a long time so you were distracted contemplating his suit, he favors the red "hey! my eyes are upstairs," he tells you with an offended but somewhat feigned voice.

Without much warning he opens what seems to be an orange portal configured by his strange cell phone, now what cosmic artifact had he stolen? he says goodbye forming a heart with both hands and when you react to say something to him he is already gone, disappearing in his orange portal and leaving you alone again.

You rub your eyes with the palm of your hands, what the fuck just happened?

Colossus is usually a good listener, he even gives some good advice, not on par with the professor's wisdom but it's good, he lets you practically vent about the latest events of the hours, there were few people at the academy due to it being a vacation and you decided to visit to have some company while Wade is away, and you'd rather let loose talking nonstop with Colossus than some other X-men, plus it serves that Colossus also knows Wade.

"He said he loves me...and I think he's back to being Deadpool, I saw him in his suit," you reveal walking in a circle, Colossus hears you but hasn't said anything, instead he starts cleaning old trophies to put them in a display case "And I know what you're going to tell me, I know you'll say I told you so, but how the hell should I know if all this time I thought he was still after Vanessa".

Colossus still doesn't speak and you let out a tired sigh "Vanessa told me that Wade and I were trying, can you believe it?" you cross your arms "But the weirdest thing about this, is that he mentioned Wolverine, he's looking for him" this time Colossus reacted to your words with anger.

You saw him get angry, of course, he was going to get angry, you, on the other hand, understand it but you don't quite understand it, because you were never close to Logan, you're sure you never even talked to him, he always took care to put limits to the other mutants he didn't trust and you are a different generation, you only saw him in the corridors and nothing else, in your opinion he was quite grumpy for your taste, not for nothing guys like Wade are your type.

But Logan if he was friends with Colossus and others like the Professor, his death was...like a hard blow to the academy and the mutant community, even if you weren't close you acknowledged that you have respect for him. Colossus asks you more about Wade's appearance and you go on to talk about the details.

You hear your name through one of the corridors and stop talking, both Yukio and Ellie approach you with a rotary phone of those old ones that are only in the academy are workable "It's Wade," Ellie says curtly handing you the phone to answer, without hesitation, you accept the call and put the receiver to your ear, you waited expectantly for someone to speak on the other line, and the others also seem to want to know why Wade was calling you instead of coming himself.
