Help - Rey

I tensed at the sound of my name, it sounded wrong coming out of his mouth.

"Ah an orphan." He continued, the semi amused tone of his voice making me want to kill him. "You've been sent to ten different foster homes." He mused. "Ran away at age eleven."

I clenched my hands into fists, hating every word that comes out of his mouth.

"I know just what to do with you." Henry smiled his horrible smile, showing all of his teeth as I scowled. "There's a school." He turned back to the computer and started tapping away at his keyboard. "Perfect for troubled kids like yourself."

My muscles tensed even more as my scowl only hardened. "I don't need to go to a school."

"Well where else are you going to go?" Henry laughed sharply. "We can't just send you back to the streets."

"I'm not going to a stupid school." I snapped as I stood up.

Officer Guville rested a hand on my shoulder and applied just enough pressure to force me back down to the seat.

"I'm calling them now." Henry laughed at that, a cruel sound that made my urge to punch him only more prominent.

"And I'll make sure to mention your.. situation."

Before I can reply Officer Guville gently poked me to a stand before she lead me down the hallway towards the door. "We can go into the waiting room." She murmured in my ear. "There's some vending machines there and I can lend you some money."

"I don't need your pity money." I snap back, my tone sharp before I instantly regretted it. "I'm sorry."

"No it's fine." Guville smiled, though it seemed forced. "I was like you once, I understand your anger."

"You were like me?" I repeated in an incredulous tone.

We entered the waiting room. "Yeah." She mumbled before gesturing to a wooden chair with a soft yellow cushion on it for me to sit.

I walked over and sat down on it as she smiled at me. "I was arrested for breaking and entering." She continued before fishing some coins from her pocket.

She walked over to the vending machine and turned to me. "What do you want?"

"Chocolate bar please." I replied to which she nodded as she slipped the coin into the slot and a KitKat dropped down.

"They let me train as a police officer to make up for it." She explained slowly. "Eventually I passed training and became who you see today." She gave me a little smile as he gestured to herself and I couldn't help but laugh at the action.

"I know you probably won't want to to go to this school." Officer Guville continued as she handed me the chocolate.

My smile dropped though I thank her for the food and started to unwrap it, not wanting to focus on the fact that I might have to go to a boarding school.

"But I truly believe that you have the potential to thrive there."

I don't bother with a reply, not wanting to talk to her now as I angrily munched on the KitKat that she kindly bought for me.

"Thank you for this." I huffed angrily. "You didn't have to buy me food and it was nice of you."

To my surprise she laughed, her entire demeanour changed at the action, a smile engulfed her entire face as her eyes wrinkled in the way that eyes often do when we laugh and the sound that came out was much more melodious and genuine than the cold and mocking laugh that Officer Henry Wilkins-

(Once again you should have read his name on the most sarcastic and mocking tone that you can muster.)

-used earlier.

If you can't tell that I hate the dude then you probably need to get your brain checked out.

"Everything will be okay Rey." Guville sighed as she stared at me, her laughter died down as she did so.

Tears pricked in my eyes and I scowled at the thought of crying, and instead letting my words snap out in anger. "You can't know that."

She nodded slowly. "You don't have anyone to protect you child." She murmured in a tone that was almost... motherly? "But they can protect you there." She added, still in the same maternal and protective voice that only makes the tears in my eyes well more.

"I don't need protection." I hissed under my breath.

I'd never been good at dealing with my emotions so I'd just bottle them down. Now I struggle to feel anything without stifling that emotion.. any emotion that could make me look weak, away so that it eventually faded.

Officer Guville's expression hardened at my reply and she shook her head slowly and carefully before sighing. "No but you need help." Her words still hold the undertone of that protectiveness but now there's mostly a strict authority like that of the police officer that she is.

"And you will get it Rey, even if you don't want it."
