Shelter from the Storm
Chapter 25: Shelter from the Storm
Once the cab pulled up in front of the apartment Loki felt a little better. They managed to get inside just as the rain was starting up again and Loki couldn't be more thankful. Kevin hurried over to the elevator to press the button to call one. Loki was still clinging to Mobius but not as tightly. It was a casual cling.
Once the elevator opened they all stepped in and waited for the lift to take them up to Sean's floor. Kevin was the first one down the hall. Confident he remembered Sean's apartment number. So when the door was answered by a cranky old man Kevin blinked and hurriedly apologized before the door was slammed in his face.
Mobius chuckled a little as he walked by. "Don't take it personally. He doesn't know you."
Loki chuckled as they went a couple more doors down and then reached out to knock on the right door.
Sean answered almost immediately and his face lit up. "Hey! How was your flight?"
"Long and stressful. You're lucky I love you." Loki grumbled as he pulled Sean in for a hug before he released him so Mobius could get his before Kevin took over.
Loki looked around approvingly at the bookshelf and the area rug that had been added in front of a TV in the living room across from the couch. They were black and purple curtains over the windows, but they were open right now. "Who picked out the curtains?" He asked curiously as he reached out and felt the material.
Sean blushed a little. "No one." He said a little to quickly.
Loki chuckled knowingly, but he didn't push it. Mobius sniffed at the air before he gave Sean a curious look. "Did you cook dinner?"
Sean smiled proudly. "I did. I made meatloaf with honey glazed carrots and mashed potatos. I wanted to have something ready for when you got here." He said before he looked to Kevin. "Kevin you have to see the gaming set up I have!" He said as he pulled him along to the TV. Kevin followed enthusistically.
Loki wandered over to the bookshelf and looked over some of the titles before he noticed something else that caused a whole slew of emotions. On one of the shelves it was a given, but he had figurines of some sort of most of the avengers, but on the next shelf down as a decoration he had some little statues. There was one for himself, one for Thor. He picked it up and looked down at it before his eyes found the Tower in the near distance from the view. He set it back down before he glanced over the Odin one. He stopped fully on the one that depicted Frigga.
He reached up and scooped it into his hand before he ran his hand over the rough yet smooth wood. It didn't look to much like she had actually looked, but that was only to be expected. They were nothing more than myths these days so it would make sense they didn't get her likeness quite right.
"You alright sweetheart? You're not flinching as much from the thunder, but I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing."
Loki was snapped out of his thoughts as Mobius came to stand next to him and he nodded before smile that he couldn't quite keep the sadness out of lifted his lips. "Look." He said as he showed him the statue cradled in his hand and then pointed to the bookshelf as well. "He has one for all of them."
Mobius gave his shoulder a pat as he looked at the one of Frigga. "To this day I think it's a crime that you weren't allowed to go to her funeral..."
Loki shrugged. "That technically wasn't me..." He countered as a way to try and make him feel better though admittedly it was kind of a weak counter. He reached up and put the statue back where it had been and then 'accidentally' knocked the Odin one off the shelf and he conveniently nudged it behind the shelf to be forgotten for a little while. The bastard didn't deserve the honor of sitting on his sons shelf when he never would have approved of this little family he had made.
"Dad! Loki! Are we gonna have dinner?"
Loki chuckled as he heard the call from the dining table. "We're coming!" He called as he pulled Mobius by the hand.
Dinner was really nice and throughout dinner the thunder and lightning even mellowed out some which helped Loki relax even further as the boys chattered excitedly about things they could do with the time they had together.
"How did it go with the job Sean? At the movie theater?"
"Oh it went really well. I've been working there for a week now. About? I think and also Peter found a third person to join us for the bot battles so we're going to be able to be a team. I'm so excited."
"Bot battles?!" Kevin echoed with wide eyes. "You're gonna build bots to battle? Sean that's so cool. You have to show me what you're working on."
"Well I don't...we just got signed up we haven't started desigining anything yet."
"Oh...well can I come to one of the battles?" Sean asked before he looked to both of his parents with wide eyes.
"Sean already said that when it comes time for the first match he'll invite us." Mobius promised and Loki nodded as well.
"So have you got an enclosure for Hiss set up yet?" Loki asked as he looked over to Sean.
Sean nodded. "Yeah, I have a couple more things to get for it, but I set up a big one in my room. Do you think you can have him shipped to me? They have ways to ship snakes right?"
Mobius laughed at that and shook his head. "Sorry champ, but I don't think they do, but the next time we come to visit we could bring him up for you."
Sean pouted a little, but he really didn't want Hiss going through the postal service either. Just in case he got hurt.

"Go ahead and play some of your videogames or whatever it is you two want to. This is your time to visit and you cooked dinner. Mobius and I can handle cleaning up." Loki told the boys.
They didn't have to be told twice, but they did remember to say thank you in their hurry to get back out to the TV.
Loki chuckled a litttle as he watched them go, but then he jumped as an unnecessarily loud crack of thunder crashed outside. Causing him to jump and very nearly drop the plate. Once he managed to get his heart out of his throat he glared out the window. "Honestly Brother that is so rude. Knock it off." He grumbled before he collected the rest of the dishes and took them to the kitchen where
Mobius was already filling the sink with water.
He really did want to help Mobius, but with the thunder continuing the way it was he was just to jumpy. Halfway through the job being done Mobius gently took the dish towel he was using to dry the dishes from his hands and pecked him on the cheek. "Loki you've had a long day honey. I want you to go put on some music and relax in a bath." He said before he frowned as he rubbed a hand down his back. "You're so tensed, go relax. I'll finish up out here, the boys will be fine. Alright?"
Loki looked around the admittedly little there was left to do. "But-"
Mobius shook his head. "No buts."
Loki opened his mouth to argue further, but another crack of thunder rumbled outside and the protests died on his lips. Mobius was right. His nerves had reached their limit for the day so he nodded.
"Alright. Thank you." He said quietly as he returned the peck to his cheek before he headed to the guest room to collect one of his robes.
