Ch. 3

When the adults returned to the manor, they saw the others going through a stack of books in the family room. It was only once they got closer that they realized it was journals. The writing was done in colorful glitter ink, the pages covered in stickers and doodles. The children were so absorbed in reading what was written that the adults were left unacknowledged. Out of curiosity they picked up a book and started reading.

 Hey Girlypop!

Today was my birthday! I'm officially 12 years old. I invited Jean and Scott to the ice cream parlor to celebrate but they said they were busy with studying. That's okay though! I still had fun! There was this guy named Cable who knew it was my birthday! He even got me birthday presents! Not even my parents got me those before they died, I feel so spoiled! Then he taught me how to shoot at a gun ranch. It was so much fun! I want a laser gun now! We're going to meet up again next week at the cat cafe! I'm glad I got to make a new friend.

Write tomorrow Girlypop! Good Night!

Hello,

I haven't written in a journal before but the self-help books I read said it was a good idea. I think I'll start with myself to "self-assess". Whatever that means. My name is Y/N, my parents died last week in an accident. I got taken in by an old professor named Charles Xavier. He runs a school for people like me, he is like me.

I died last week.

When I died it went dark, then, I saw a text box appear in front of me. Like a video game. It asked if I wanted to respawn and I hit yes. A loading icon appeared in my peripheral and I could explore the space I was in. It looked like a floral-filled meadow with a lake in the middle of a firefly-lit forest. It was peaceful.

Then I woke up. I was standing beside the destroyed car and I saw an ambulance speeding down the road. I thought I would be dirty and bloody but I wasn't. When I explained everything to the doctor he called the professor. The only sign that I died was some speckled scars where the glass embedded into my neck.

I'm going to bed.

Hey Girlypop!

I'm in high school now! I'm also the youngest in the school so people try to pick on me a lot. I guess that's to be expected when you're an 11-year-old with a bunch of 14-18-year-olds. Jokes on them, I know how to cut them down to size using my words. And if they try to pick a fight then I know how to finish them as well. There were also some new mutants taken in by the professor. I don't think they like me much, but that's okay. I know I look human compared to them so it only makes sense they don't like me. I just hope they don't hate me.

That's all for today! Good night Girlypop!

Girlypop!

I have an idea, it might be a really bad idea and it might not even work. But I think it will work. I'm going to try and get Magento and Professor Xavier to work together! Neither of them are wrong you see, but they're the opposites of a spectrum. Alone they can't make any changes that they wanna make, but together? They'll be unstoppable. It won't be easy and I have to be super careful or it'll blow up majorly in my face. But I've already got the kid mutants working together so how hard will it be to get them to work together?

I'm going to think about plans, Night!

Girlpop!

I did it! Magneto has moved in! Everyone is getting along outside of little arguments here and there. I'm going to celebrate by having cake and I'm going to tell Cable all about it tomorrow, we'll probably go to the gun ranch again. Yes, I know it's range, but Cable gets exasperated when I call it a ranch so I'm going to keep calling it that. I love training with Morph and Mystique because their shapeshifting abilities make me have to think on the spot and it's so much fun! Magneto you just have to dodge and it gets kind of boring but the philosophical conversations are where it's at. Professor X seems to be concerned that we agree on so much. It's like, 1 in the morning I need to sleep.

Good Night Girlypop!

Hey Girlypop,

I've been spiraling again, everybody here acts like a family and are so close with each other. I want that. Sure, Cable acts like an older brother to me but I don't get to spend time with him as much as everyone else spends time with each other. I could ask him to spend more with me but he's super busy and he already spends so much time with me. I don't want to be that selfish. But I want a mom and a dad and aunts and uncles and brothers and sisters. I want to be part of their family.

I'm going to go to sleep before I start crying.

Good Night.

"Why didn't they just talk to us?" Scott asked as he continued to read the entries in the journal he grabbed

"Look at how they thought, Y/N thought themselves selfish just accepting less than the minimum," Wanda retorted as she scowled.

"I want to know who this Cable guy is," Logan growled out.

"Whoever he is he's been there for Y/N more than we have," Ororo said as she traced a doodle in the margins.

"How could we not notice how alone they've felt?" Jean whispered as she leaned into Scott.

When the journals were done being read through they were returned to Y/N's room. Wanda wandered into her brother's room to collapse on his bed and hug his jacket close as she tried not to cry. Erik soon found her and lifted her to lay her head on his lap, running a hand through her hair.

It wasn't long before the world started to change. New legislation was being implemented quicker than ever to the benefit of mutants. S.H.I.E.L.D. was torn down in a display that struck fear as new people took the place of prior government officials. Anti-mutant groups were completely eradicated, violently, if the rumors were to be believed. Those people were seen alive and well days later so those conspiracies were quickly dispelled. Homo Sapiens grew to be fully accepting of Homo Superior, if they didn't, they were too afraid to say so.

A new time of peace has been brought about using the means of politics, espionage, and violence. This is how the world should've been for their children. It should not have taken the death of four of them to finally bring peace to the world.

"Y/N, like, where are we?" Kitty asked as she spun around in the meadow they appeared in.

"This is where I go when I die," They answered as they lay down.

"You've died before?" Kurt questioned as he joined them.

"Yep," Y/N popped the p as they smiled at him, "It's not a big deal."

"What happened, when you died before?" Pietro asked as he collapsed across Y/N's and Kurt's torso causing them to let out an oompf.

"The first time I died I was around ten, I think, my parents had gotten into a car accident. The glass from my window punctured an artery and it didn't take long for me to bleed out. That was the day I arrived at the mansion. There were also times I'd be on a mission and I'd make a bad decision that'd get me killed. There were a few times we went up against the brotherhood in the early days and someone would go too far or I'd jump in the way. I tried to take myself out but that didn't work either so I eventually gave up on that." Y/N explained as they shrugged.

"But, we, like, totally don't remember you dying before!" Kitty exclaimed as she turned her head to stare at them.

"That's because I'd load a previous save so I could make sure nobody would remember. If anything went awry I would also reload so I could make sure nobody else would experience dying. This is the first I'm able to respawn others with me, the catch though is that time will still pass so I don't know when it will be once we're alive again." They continued as they brushed their fingers through their hair.

"You've been through so much, how are you not crazy?" Piotro questioned.

"Spite."

Y/N's answer was so blunt that the group couldn't help but burst out laughing. Kitty booped Kurt on the nose who booped Pietro, but before he could transfer it Y/N got up and started running. This led to a game of tag that evolved into hide and seek. The children played and had fun while they waited for their time to come back.

Exhaustion started to nip at the heels of the children causing them to stop. They tried to stay awake a little longer, but it wasn't working. So they returned to the meadow, collapsed into a pile of tangled limbs, and went to sleep as they gripped each other tight.
