^^^^^^PETER P.O.V^^^^^^^^

Leo was in interesting fella.

He was clearly very smart in engineering, however as soon as the work was in the form of homework, he looked like he was about to set fire to his papers out of pure frustration.

Their last class before lunch break had just finished, so now Leo, Ned and Peter were making their way to the cafeteria.

Ned was actively trying to find something that he had in common with Leo, besides programing and building.

Apparently, Leo has never heard of Star Wars…who hasn’t heard of Star Wars? Like, that show’s famous.

“Duuudeee, so like, you are positive that you’ve never seen it?” Ned asked for about the third time.

“Yes, I’m positive. I’m fairly certain I would remember a show that has characters who can choke their enemies without touching them, and with long swords that are actually death lasers.” Leo smiled his impish grin as Ned continued yapping on about the movie series.

Finally they reached the cafeteria, Peter was starving- no thanks to enhanced metabolism.

“Hey Leo, we’re gunna go ahead and get our food, meet Ned and me at the table in the corner over there. Make sure to go to the lady in the pink sweater over there to learn how the cafeteria works!” Peter half-shouted over his shoulder as he eagerly made his way to the line.

(Sorry if the cafeteria or school scenes are unrealistic- I’ve personally never experienced a public school in my life and I have not a clue what it’s like)

The meal for today was chicken nuggets, canned green beans and mashed potatoes- they didn’t even have the decency to have gravy. What a disappointment. There was a choice between milk and orange juice, Peter chose milk. After the spider bite, anything citrus had given Peter a stomach ache (if consumed) or a headache (if inhaled, like air refresher).

“Hey Parker!”

Oh great- Flash. Just the guy to interrupt his already depressingly boring potatoes.

“Uhhg go away Flash” Ned grumbled from where he sat next to Peter.

“You know, you really shouldn’t be hanging out with that new kid” Flash smirked as he spoke.
“I hear his luck is just terrible- oH wait! It kinda sounds like someone else’s luck! Maybe if you two DO hang out together your luck will cancel out! Maybe no one else will die because of yo-“

Flash was cut short when a hard plastic cafeteria food tray whacks him across the head, hard.

Behind flash stood Leo, holding the abused tray. Leo may be shorter than flash- but he looked angry.

Really angry.

“I recommend you shut up and go back to whatever hole you crawled out of before I decide that this tray looks better with a crack in it and that you look better with a mild concussion.” Leo growled through his teeth, and Peter’s spidey sense spiked in second-hand danger.

Leo looked every part serious, what usually was a happy-go-lucky impish grin was now replaced by a frown, his eyes had a glow to them that Peter would’ve swore hadn’t been there an hour ago. His hands were clinched and his head was lowered just slightly.

It was terrifying to see this side of Leo.

“You? You’re so small and scrawny that-“

Again, Flash was cut off. The tray met Flash’s head but this time the force of the hit slammed his head straight into the cafeteria table.

The hit was hard enough to crack the tray.

Ouch.

The sound literally echoed throughout the room, and just then Peter realized that they had an audience.

An audience that consisted of pretty much every single person in the room.

“What’re you staring at? Go eat your food or something. Just leave us be” Leo glared at the crowd- and wisely, most listened.

“Dude- that was awesome!” Ned quickly started to compliment Leo over his, hopefully not murder. After Flash was still trying to stand and walk straight in his daze.

Leo say down next to Peter.

Apparently when he arrived, he had slid all his food off the tray and onto the table in order to use the tray as a weapon without losing lunch. Smart.

“LEO VALDEZ! TO THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE RIGHT THIS INSTANT!” the loud sound of their Science teacher sounded through the still near silent cafeteria, causing Peter to flinch at the volume.

“What? So Flash gets to be a total jerk to Peter all freaking dAy and the moment someone stands up for him that person gets in trouble? Why not punish Flash?! I even gave him a warning! This is a school! If you don’t learn to take warning seriously here, then what will you expect them to do in a situation where the warning is serious?!!” Leo shouted back.

Okay that’s a pretty good point-

“Not another word from you!” Mrs Leah grabbed Leo’s arm and dragged him to the hallway in the direction of the principal’s lair.

“Someone take Flash to the nurse!” She shouted over her shoulder as she rounded the corner.

^^^line break- Still Peter pov^^^^

So apparently the Principal wasn’t too upset with Leo, and had only given him detention for the rest of this week and next week.

Next time he saw Leo was after school.

“Hey” Peter greeted as he approached Leo on the way out.

“Hey” was his reply.

Peter stood next to Leo awkwardly.

Leo was typing quickly on his phone, and Peter, being a curious person by nature, looked at who it was.

It seemed to be a group chat where no-one used their real name.

So close friends.

Also, Peter learned something else new in that moment.

Leo’s grammar and spelling sUcked. Though, that would be expected of a kid with ADHD and Dyslexia.

“Hey uhm, thanks for standing up for me, you really didn’t have to”

“Hm? Nah we’re all good. Flash needed to be out in his place- and that tray was ugly anyway. The only downside was I had to skip lunch. Uhhg.” Leo pocketed his phone into that tool belt of his.

Peter snorted.

“Well, thanks anyway. Just next time, I got it ‘kay? No need to get in trouble for me.”

“Nah, trouble follows me everywere- I was bound to be in trouble anyway. Also, what Flash said. It hit a bit too close to home for my liking” Leo shrugged.

“O-oh..I’m sorry”

“Nah. Don’t be. Not your fault”

Peter just hummed a confirmation.

“Well, enough depressing tension! I have to go, I got some friends I need to see tonight. See ya around” Leo smiled and started walking away.

“W-wait! Leo! Can I uh- can we exchange numbers? You seem like a cool guy to have as a friend” Peter nearly flushed in pure embarrassment of how awkward he had to make it.

“Oohh! Yah sure! Hold on a sec- yah. Here” Leo flipped his phone so that the screen faced Peter, showing him Leo’s number.

After adding it to his contact, Peter sent a quick text.
