The X-mansion seemed to shake to the beat of blaring music, the first floor packed to the brim with students and friends. Wolverine sat at the island downing multiple beers in attempt to ignore all the overwhelming commotion around him. it wasn't working. He wished he had someone to sit with, as much as he claimed to be a loner he didn't always enjoy being alone, especially in an event like this.
He was pulled out of his head by a tug on his shoulder, it was Jubilee,
"LOOGAAAN! HAVE YOU SEEN MORPH???" She yelled right in his ear, a smile on her face.
"No! Though if they were around I would enjoy the company!"
"WHAT?!" She leaned closer to him, Logan forgets not everyone hears as well as he does.
"NO KID. I HAVENT!" He repeated.
"YOU SHOULD GO FIND THEM! THEY LOOK GREAT!!" Jubilee elbowed him playfully.
"WHY SHOULD I CARE?"
"Oh please!! You know they're dressed up for you?!" Jubilee doesn't yell that part, she leans away slightly and folds her arms.
"WHAT?" Wolverine turns to her with an annoyed look on his face. She had been making comments about the two of them ever since Logan had opened up to her about his 'complicated' feelings for Morph, he had wanted advice but now he regretted ever saying anything at all.
Jubilee looks away nervously "I mean like, you seem lonely over here you know!! Go find them to keep you company!"
"I AIN'T DOIN' THAT." He turns to take another sip of his drink.
"Oh my goddd!" Jubilee rolls her head, "They're LITERALLY in love with you and you can't even go out of your way to- oh," She covers her mouth.
Logan pauses, setting his beer back down on the counter and turning to stare directly at her again. "What.?" He said it calmly, Jubilee barely heard him but from his expression she knew she had messed up. She smiled at him nervously, shrugging her shoulders before turning and darting off.
'Damnit that kid.' He hops off the barstool, 'How the hell would she know that? Morph would've had to tell her that themselves,' Logan walks through the small clusters of mutants as his mind spins. Finding Morph in this crowd was a difficult task, he couldn't differentiate between everyone's smells, and seeing as they were a shapeshifter, there was no telling if they would be themselves or not.
After what felt like forever Logan spotted them, hearing their signature laugh even from afar. He made his way towards his friend quite aggressively, pushing through crowds without batting an eye. Morph was dancing around stupidly with some of the younger students, wearing a long red dress that made Wolverine pause in his tracks.
Morph flung their arms up in the air, laughing loudly as a group of students jumped around them excitedly, all singing to the music that was blaring throughout the room. They had no idea why Jubilee had brought this group to hang around with them, but they didn't mind. As they turned to avoid dancing children, they noticed Wolverine standing not too far away, staring at them with wide eyes. They smiled and gave him a wave before being turned back around aggressively by the students behind him, all making stupid kissy faces at them while pointing towards Logan.
"OH STOP IT!" Morph shook their hands back and forth, laughing even harder now. They had only turned around a few seconds before they felt a hand on their back.
"Morph! We gotta talk Bub.!" Logan's voice was sharp, just loud enough to hear over the obnoxious party music.
"Yeah? Whats up?" Morph didn't try and raise their voice, they knew Logan would hear them, they also knew that he must be overwhelmed as hell in this room.
"Walk with me, Morph." Logan's voice became even more aggravated, Morph hoped it was because of all the noise. They couldn't hide their worried expression as he grabbed their wrist and pulled them towards the stairwell, leaving the party lights behind as the natural darkness clouded the rest of the mansion.
The two made their way up the staircase, with Morph making constant nervous glances back downstairs, making Logan start to regret his angry demeanor as he noticed how worried they seemed.
The two stepped into Morph's room, only because it was closer to the stairs than Wolverines. As soon as their door was opened, Morph pushed ahead of Logan, turning on a lamp that gave the room a soft orange light,
"Logan whats going on? You're sorta scaring me here." They turned back around and put a comforting hand on their friend's shoulder.
"You, you weren't going to tell me?" Wolverine blurted out, almost slurring his speech.
"Tell you what? What are you talking about?"
Wolverine grabbed them by the elbows and yanked them closer,
"You, really.. Love me?"
"I. What.?!" Morph forced a laugh, they were so gonna get Jubilee for this.
"Morph, you coulda said something," Logan trailed his hands from their elbows to their hands, holding them softly.
"Maybe I just don't want to talk about it"
"Me neither."
Wolverines response caught Morph off guard, was that not why he pulled them aside? To talk about it? They tried to say something thoughtful, but their nervous joking nature got the best of them.
"Well you know what they say, actions speak louder than words?"
Logan cracked a smile, clearly amused by their answer, his eyes wandered up and down Morph's body.
"The dress suits you, you know?"
Morph tucked one foot behind the other and giggled, "You think so?"
Wolverine nodded his head, holding their hands tighter.
"Thanks Logan, maybe we should get you a dress next yeah?"
He snorted "In your dreams!"
"Got that right." Morph moved to plant a kiss on Logan's forehead, "Is that all? I was really enjoying that party,"
Wolverine let out a sigh that seemed to also be a bit of a laugh, "I 'spose."
The two walked back down the stairs with fingers intertwined, stopping just before they walked into the main room.
"Morph?" Logan looked up at them. "One more thing," He brought their hand to his lips, (half wishing it could have been their face, but he figured that was too risky in a crowd like this.)
"Cut it out ya' big flirt!" Morph laughed as they covered their mouth with the tips of their fingers. "I'll give you a real one later if you'd like," Logan seemed to radiate confidence, Morph wouldn't have been surprised if he had started actually glowing.
"Bet I do it better," Morph gave him a wink, trying to match his demeanor. Logan chuckled, "We'll see about that."
With that, the two walked back into the crowded room of dancers hand in hand, probably to get each other a beer.
