Earth's Mightiest Lumberjacks and Lumberjanets.

POV: Hulk.

Hulk grumbles as he walks beside Wasp, making sure to keep the stack of annoying boxes steady.

“If you were gonna complain, you didn’t need to come, Hulk.” She says, but she has a smile, so she’s probably joking with Hulk.

“I was bored, so I decided I wanted to go with Wasp.” I tell her, being careful not to shake the pile. No need to get her mad because I dropped her stupid clothes.

“Fair enough. So! Done anything for fun recently?” She asks casually as we walk. The NORMAL people kept their distance as usual.

“No. Poker night isn’t for two more weeks yet. Hulk no like swimming after winter box. And TV has been boring. Too much news. Too much talk about Skrull.” I grumble.

“Yeah, it’s been a few weeks since we dealt with them for good. And they are still talking about it. Either way, we need something fun to do together.” She says, grumbling a bit herself before turning cheerful again.

“Oh yeah, like what?” I ask, seeing the mansion in sight.

“I do have an idea or two. Let’s drop this off then we can get going!” She says, picking up the pace. Deciding it’s best to humor her, I keep pace with her to finally drop these boxes off. Hulk’s arm was beginning to cramp.

---------------

“What is Hulk looking at?” I ask in confusion, looking at what seems to be a area of forest, but where we are has been cut down, with piles of lumber stacked up, along with tools, trucks and temporary buildings for work.

“It’s a lumber camp! I had an idea, and I bet we could be great with it!” She says, before heading inside. After grumbling a bit, I follow her, keeping my steps light to keep the piles from collapsing. No need to anger men with axes. Even if they won’t compare to Executioner.

“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” Who I assume is the one in charge asks when we get decently far in.

“Hello! I’m Janet, this is my friend Hulk. We were wondering if we could help out for the day?” She says confidently.

“And what is it you think you could help with?” The man asks, looking us over.

“Well, for starters, I think my friend here could make things a bit faster and more efficient for you overall. He’s VERY strong. Enough that he can easily pull a tree out of the ground, roots and all. This has three advantages. The first, you won’t have to spend time chopping down the tree. Second, you won’t have to worry about the leftover roots. And third, you would have holes where you could replant new trees, making things far more efficient.” She explains, clearly having thought this out.

“Those are some good arguments, but how would you play into this?” The man asks, a questioning look in his eyes.

“I’d focus on pruning the trees before Hulk pulls them up. Like this!” She says, before shrinking down, flying over to a random stick, and shooting it, easily cutting through. Which reminds me of how easily she cut through shipping containers when we met months ago.

“Fine, I’ll give you two a shot. I’ll mark a group of trees with green crosses for you, and you get to work. We’ll see how well it goes, and maybe we’ll call you in if we need assistance.” The man says, before walking off to one of the buildings, leaving me with Janet.

“Care to explain now?” I ask roughly, crossing my arms.

“Well, I realized earlier that we didn’t really have stuff we did together. So I thought, why not something that takes advantage of both our skills. And after thinking it over, I landed on logging. For all the reasons I told the overseer, along with the fact it means we can banter while we work!” She explains with some joy, before looking a bit pensive. “This is okay, right? I haven’t overstepped at all?”

“It’s fine. Hulk supposes he can spend the afternoon pulling up trees.” I tell her, then wait around for a bit until the overseer guy returns to tell us he’s marked some trees, whjch he takes us to.

“Alright Hulk, let’s clear this lumber!” Wasp declares, before flying up the first tree, which Hulk’s not sure, but it could be oak. And she begins to blast through the small branches, causing sticks and leaves to drop down all around the tree’s base. Soon enough, all that’s left are the large branches.

“Get ready Hulk, I’m gonna blast through these to trim it down, you catch them, then pile them up!” She yells down, before she starts shooting through the first branch, which cracks before falling down. I catch it with a grunt, it’s not as thick as the tree, but it’s not small either. I repeat the process until all that’s left is the trunk.

So I place the branches in a pile nearby, then move over to the now bare and trimmed tree. Hulk grabs the trunk carefully, and pulls it out of the ground, roots and all, leaving a decent hole in the ground.

“Great going Hulk! Now, take that back and place it where we can start a pile, and while you're taking the trunk and branches back, I’ll get started on the next one.” Wasp tells me, before getting back to work with a smile. Hulk must admit, it’s not bad using Hulk’s strength for fun.

---------------

It is starting to get dark around the time we have taken down the last tree. When I’m carrying the last pile of branches back, I can see the hefty pile of trees we took down. Hulk thinks it was around 100.

The trunks are neatly piled up, while the branch pile looks like a large unlit bonfire.

“Woo! That was great, wasn’t it Hulk!” Janet cheers while sitting on my shoulder.

“Hulk admits it wasn’t a bad time. I wouldn’t mind doing it again in the future.” I tell her, while the overseer is coming over.

“Well damn, you two did great work. It would have taken more than a day to get all those down with just my boys. As promised, should I need the help, or even if you're in the area, you can work with us again. Also, you deserve the day's pay as well.” He tells us, before handing me an envelope.

“Thanks! Just message or call us here, and we’ll come around if we can. See ya!” Janet says, dropping a business card in his hand before we head off. As I’m walking out, the lumberjacks we pass by wave and nod to us, which is an improvement compared to regular people.

“I’m glad I had this idea. We need to be more than just work mates. Knowing more about each other would mean something like the Skrull replacing us wouldn’t happen as easily. At least, that’s the reasoning I’ll give Tony when we get back if he asks.” Janet says, making me chuckle a bit.

As I’m walking back, I yell out as I step down and suddenly fall into a burning orange smokey portal. All I can hear before going through is Janet yelling “Hulk!” before I fully fall through.
