“I’m sorry… who are you??” Tony asked. Putting an arm in front of Peter to protect him.
“Look Bub, i don’t want to be here any more than you want me here so why don’t you just let me take the kids and leave.” The stranger replied.
“Yeah I don’t think so. I don’t even know who you are. Why would I let you take my kids?”
Tony was just about to turn away already done with the conversation but was slammed against the wall. “You listen here you piece of shi-”
He was interrupted by Steve who somehow knew the dude. An old war buddy apparently. How that was possible Tony didn’t know. Maybe the guy was frozen too?
Logan was at his wits end. He just came to the tower to collect the Peter’s and Wanda because of the rising bigotry against mutants again. The kids were already packed for god's sake and this asshole of a man won’t let him protect the kids, the kids that he claimed was his. Logan internally growled at that. If those kids were anyone’s they were his.
Logan cooled it a bit when Steve showed up. Fuck it’s been awhile, he wonders if Steve and Bucky are still together. Steve gave Logan the chance to explain himself, who he was, where he was taking the kids, why he was taking the kids.
“Look all that is great but I still don’t get why you have to take them. We can protect them fine here.” Stark stupidly assumed.
“Look Xavier’s has always been the safest place for mutants, or mutates in Parker’s case. My own daughter is there right now Stark and I would sooner die than put her in danger. Besides, if you want to fight off a man who controls metal for those twins you're welcome to.”
Stark backed off at that. Logan took it as a sign of approval, not that he needed it but it would be nice to go without a fight, and told the kids to get their stuff. They left shortly after.
Getting to the mansion was a quiet affair. Logan parked the car in the garage and went to grab the bags from the trunk. Peter and Wanda were already out of the car and into the mansion by the time Logan and Parker got the rest of the bags out of the car. At least the twins already grabbed their stuff.
Logan noticed Parker dragging behind a bit, “Hey, you alright, kid?”
“Yeah, I’m happy to be out of the tower at least. Just nervous I guess. What if they don’t like me?”
“Kid… you may not have lived here before but whenever you stop by all the kids are so excited, especially the little ones. You’re part of the family here Pete. Just as much as anyone else” Logan explained softly. He chuckled a bit when what he said made a noticeable difference in the Spider’s mood. “C’mon kid, we got to get inside.”
True to Logan’s word a lot of people were excited to see Peter. Laura, being one of the first to spot him, wrapped him in a hug and didn’t let him go for a while after. Muttering something in Spanish that sounded an awful lot like “Mi hermano.”
By the time the crisis was over, the X-Men saved the world from an attack by Magneto as per usual, the three heroes didn’t want to go back to the tower.
“Please Mr. Logan, please. I don’t want to go back.”
“Yeah, what little Peter said.” Quicksilver added.
“Ok i understand liking it here guys but you have to go back, we promised you guys would be back after the crisis was finished.” It pained Logan to say that. He loved the kids but a promise was a promise and Logan didn’t feel like being hunted down by a billionaire.
“Logan, it's actually awful there. We’re barely allowed to live.”
“It can’t be that bad, kid.”
“It is though! I'm lucky in the fact that it barely affects me but they still don’t like me blatantly showing my powers around them. I can’t run around or do any of the just simple stuff you guys allow me to do here to relieve my ADHD. Peter can’t do his literal job as a vigilante because Stark is always hounding him about the smallest stuff and grounds him for it like he’s Peter’s parent! Wanda is stuck in her room more times than not because she made a mistake or lost control for one second! Logan it’s bad there, please don’t make us go back.” Peter explained in what was obviously an angry outburst he’d been holding in.
Logan sighed, “I’ll see what I can do.”
In the end the three were allowed to stay at the mansion for as long as they wanted. A schedule was worked out for Parker and his Spider-Man duties. Stark was absolutely furious about the arrangement but after what Peter said all the X-Men knew it was for the best. It was obvious that once the three knew they weren’t going back.
Logan really didn’t care what the Avengers thought, none of the X-Men did, so this wasn’t a hard call to make and now seeing Parker treat Laura like a sister or the twins napping in the commons with the rest of the teens Logan knew this was the right call. All he ever wanted was for his kids to be happy and they were now. Sure he kept the Avengers that actually cared about the kids updated on them through weekly get togethers with Steve and Bucky but that was all the contact the Avengers had with the kids and Logan was happy to see it stay that way.
Between teaching history classes and watching over the kids at the mansion Logan found a family he never thought he would let himself have again. After countless wars and many other hard battles Logan found himself finally relaxing into a new life. He felt a sense of peace rise in him that he hadn’t felt for a long time.
