A single step taken on a wetland shore
“So Shisui, can you convince glasses over there that we really should kill those two for the sake of their sanity? A quick death is preferable to a slow and drawn out one,” Bianca said, pointing towards the two people slunched up against a wall.
“I’m sorry Miss. Bianca, while I can’t say I support murder. I do think that giving them a quick death is preferable to them dying from infection. I’m sorry, but I’ll be siding with Bianca for this one.” Shisui announced, watching as the rest of the group refused to act.
Not wanting to get their hands dirty, so they’ll be able to deflect any or all accusations against their morality in the future. Typical.
“So, what I’m getting here is the consensus is to kill the two to prevent them from further suffering. If so…” Bianca’s voice trailed off at the end, as she racked her brain for ways to articulate the question without sounding like a total psychopath.
“Does anyone here have a weapon I can use? It needs to be heavy and blunt. Professor. Give me your laptop. I need it to kill off those two.” Bianca ordered as Darian handed her the dented laptop.
Bianca made quick work of those two, choosing to slam the laptop down on the lady’s head before stepping on the man’s neck.
A loud crack resounded across the room, killing the man as he struggled to breathe with a broken neck. Everyone simply stared at Bianca in horror as Bianca wiped her hands off on her apron.
“At least somebody in the room isn’t an absolute coward. Thanks for agreeing, Shisui, I’m looking forward to working with you in the future.” Bianca said, reaching out her grease-stained hand for him to shake.
Not wanting to be impolite, Shisui shakes her hand. Before pulling his hand back and wiping the leftover oil on his shirt.
“Back to the introductions, I guess. We can talk about what just happened later when we’re in a less chaotic environment. So, how about you start us off?” Shisui said, pointing towards the kid wearing glasses.
Turning to look at the other kid, Shisui waited for his introduction.
The kid stayed silent, unwilling to talk, making Shisui realize that he had to be the one to ask him questions to get any information at all.
“So let’s start off with your name, glasses. I’m sorry, but if you don’t answer by the next ten seconds, I’ll have to move on and ask somebody else.” Shisui said, placing a time limit all while watching the seconds tick down from the little blue analog clock above his head.
43:19
Not bad, in his opinion. The thing with the security guard and the other dude took a lot less time than he had expected.
“My name is Owen Zhao, and that’s about it ummmmmmmmm…” Owen said as he looked around nervously with his reddened eyes, at the dead bodies on the floor, at the broken tables littering the floor below them. Looking anywhere but at the faces of his future teammates.
Probably some form of social anxiety, Shisui noted, still thinking about what they should do after the introductions.
“My name is Jonathon Lee and I like making bad jokes. So I apologize if I piss anybody off in the future because, like you saw earlier, my jokes are very horrible.” Jonathon said, starting on his introduction without any beckoning to Shisui.
Jonathon’s jokes weren’t horrible per se, but they just had horrible timing. Example A: The time he joked about the dead lady’s injuries being way out of his league as an apocalypse commenced around them.
On the bright side, his introduction was pretty short without a lot of unnecessary details.
Good, getting the filler out of this conversation will save them a lot of time, and time is a resource they don’t have a lot of.
As everyone else started their introductions lightning fast, it seemed like they all got the memo. Jumping from one conversation to another, with introductions often overlapping, they were getting through this “getting to know you” phase pretty quickly.
“My name is Abdullah.” Abdullah said with a shaking voice. With tear tracks on his face beginning to dry and the snot running down his nose, it wasn’t hard to tell that he was crying right before the argument began.
“I’m Darian Brown, and I frankly think this entire movie setup is absolute bullshit,” Darian said, unaware that his opinion was unwarranted and everybody also felt the same way. Bianca snorted at the white-collar worker’s complaints as the introductions continued.
Ignoring Darian, Shisui continued with what little planning he could do during this time.
“Since the introductions are over, what should we do?” Shisui asked rhetorically before Abdullah raised his hand.
Ignoring Abdullah’s hand in a fit of impatience, Shisui continued.
“I suggest we hoard some easily preservable food from the restaurants while this sub-scenario is still active. Since it doesn’t look like, we’ll be able to head back outside anytime soon with what’s happening outside.” Shisui said, pointing towards the windows while waiting for everyone else’s response to his plans.
When the timer goes below the 25-minute mark, he’ll start hoarding regardless of their opinion.
Better safe than sorry in a situation like this.
“What do you even me- Oh. Oh.” Owen realized when he looked out the glass wall, onto the streets below. Smoke bellowed from the crashed cars. Giant ants carried away headless carcasses into abandoned buildings as what few survivors remained crowded outside the mall entrance.
A green zone, Shisui observed as he saw the clear walls glow green as another survivor entered the green zone.
Everyone crowded around the windows, curious to see what Owen had discovered. It was like an apocalypse was happening outside, with nothing but pure destruction in sight.
Well, an apocalypse was happening, just not the typical zombie apocalypse people were screaming about online.
“So this was why you were next to the windows the entire time,” Bianca noted, taking out a cigarette out of her pocket before lighting it. Watching the ash-grey smoke float into the air, slowly mixing with the air until all traces of the smoke disappeared; except for its scent.
The air now smelled of blood, vomit, and cigarette smoke, a combination that made Shisui want to puke.
“I don’t think the barriers would keep us safe for long, so we should stock up on as much food and water as possible before this grace period ends and we’re forced to fend for ourselves,” Shisui said, waiting for the reactions of his floor-mates.
While it would be nice to have everyone cooperate, it wasn’t exactly necessary. If worse comes to worst, he can always find another group or go solo; while neither of which promised long-term survivability nor safety, it’s still a better option than going solo in a system like this.
“He has a point. We should all team up temporarily and try to gather as many supplies as we can before the next scenario starts. There may still be around 25 minutes left, but the task will be time-consuming, taking into consideration the mess we’ll have to navigate through.” Darian agreed, taking a pointed stare at the headless bodies littered on the floor for the “mess”.
“So, does anybody have bags that we can put all the food in then? It’ll be pretty useless for us to just expect this place to be safe in the future when I’m pretty sure we’ll be expected to move around a lot. If those fantasy progression stories online were correct.” Jonathon said.
Everybody shook their heads. Darian shook his head too, since he had brought a laptop case that could only accommodate a laptop and a few books. Not wide enough to store food in.
“Nothing. Great, now what?” Jonathan said, seeing that nobody had brought anything to put the food in. Which was to be expected, since nobody just brings humongous hiking bags with them to a food court.
“I mean, we can empty all the shopping bags on the floor and use that to store things. Most of them are crumpled and covered in blood, but it’s still better than nothing.” Owen interjected, eyeing the shopping bags lying on the floor. The stampeding in the first scenario resulted in most items being crushed.
“Okay, now that’s decided. We should start grabbing some shopping bags and stuff our supplies into them. We should also check the restaurants as well, since they might have takeout bags we can use.” Shisui said, walking towards a Thai restaurant. Careful not to slip on any blood and debris lying around.
Noticing that everyone else was watching him like how a hawk stares at its prey, he turned around and said.
“There’s only about 20 minutes left. We should really make the best of the time we have.”
And so the wild chase began.
[Time is up, now let’s see how everyone did.]
Conroy announced as the timer finally ticked down to zero, releasing the blue barriers that encased the floors and in turn freeing the inhabitants inside.
For better or for worse, they were now free.
[Floor one, tsk, what a waste. I gave you one hour to prepare, and all you did was argue, well at least floor two did do something. It isn’t much, but it’s something. Floor three, you all prepared to say the least. Love the unique infrastructure but it’s not going to do much for the next scenario.]
Luckily, with Conroy’s overview of what happened on the floors during scenario, Shisui could gather some useful information about the people he’ll have to deal with in the future. Since he’s not planning to leave the mall without more preparation.
This was what he has gotten so far.
Floor one and four didn’t really accomplish anything during the time they were given, choosing to cry and argue over group dynamics instead. Floor three was apparently preparing a hide out with what they had, as the third floor was where most of the furniture stores were. Floor two was a food court. The second floor had a different floor plan than the other floors, leading it to become an isolation chamber for food-only stores. The only things they managed to do was gather some food since other than the food court, there wasn’t much going for the second floor other than a nice view.
The fifth floor only had two survivors who just played Uno the whole time, which they stole from one of the game stores. Floor six had no survivors, Floor seven following Floor one’s example ended up splitting into two groups, one that was trying to figure out what the heck is happening while the other just did whatever as they tried to live out their last hours in peace.
The eighth floor had no survivors because it was nobody ever visited it and its spacious layout made killing more difficult. Not to mention the eighth was for the witchcraft trend that spread on social media a few years ago, with the niche items making it kind of useless during the first scenario.
[Now that the overview is over. We’ll be starting the next scenario shortly. Now, everyone~ playtime is over. So go down to the first floor.]
With a snap of Conroy’s fingers, all the escalators began moving again. Well, only the escalators that went down, the ones that went up, were still blocked off by blue barriers.
Grabbing his bags of random foodstuff, Shisui got onto the escalator and tried to meditate for a few moments. He needs to mentally brace himself for the long fight for survival ahead.
He was tired. Most of it was due to circumstances unrelated to the scenarios, pulling all-nighters, studying for academic competitions, acting as the mediator between his parents when something goes wrong.
He actually planned on sleeping in this morning. His math tutor was going to visit his fiance, leaving him with a free morning.
He planned this out three weeks ago. It was supposed to be the highlight of his week until he spontaneously asked Neal out. Leading him to sacrifice his only free morning of the month to go on a date with a schoolmate.
He then physically stayed up all night, had an exhausting morning and, right as lunch hit, the apocalypse began.
He really was regretting deciding not to eat without Neal, because from the surprising amount of survivors there were in the mall and how little food there was in the bags. He knows he’s going to spend the next couple of days hungry if he wants to win the trust of everyone on the floor by sharing.
Waiting next to a marble pillar for the rest of his floor to meet him at, he watched as the rest of his floor make their way down the escalators. Which luckily only took about a minute or so, as they were on the second floor.
Which was also a bad thing because this led to the group that was originally inhabiting the first floor to stare at his group awkwardly. Refusing to acknowledge their existence as they watched the survivors congregate on their floor.
Awkward silence filled the room as more and more people arrived at the floor. Aware of the awkward atmosphere, people began gathering on different parts of the first floor.
Floor three ended up near the fountains. Floor four decided to make themselves comfortable in the apple store, with the sole teenager on the floor making herself comfortable by playing on the display iPads.
As the higher floors finally made their way down with how the escalators to each floor were located on the opposite sides of each floor, Conroy began speaking again.
[Can’t you please hurry up? I can’t have my audience wait forever, you know. There’s a limit to how interesting of a story you can make with shots of some incarnations running around for two minutes.]
With Conroy’s message, the survivors became even more hurried, almost tripping on the escalators multiple times as they made their way down.
As the final survivor made his way onto the escalator, the floor above them subsequently got locked. With a blue barrier blocking off all the exits with a little red lock symbol on the barriers to symbolize, they were, in fact, locked.
Making them virtually trapped on the first floor, a floor filled with technology, clothing and toys. Nothing that fulfills any basic needs, just useless luxuries in a time like this.
It’s not that bad. In Shisui’s opinion, it could be worse.
[Now that all the incarnations are on a single floor, we can now begin the next scenario!]
Snapping his fingers, a blue scenario screen appeared in front of the incarnations.
The 2nd main scenario has arrived!
Main Scenario 2
A Leader's election
Clear Condition(s): Determine who will fulfill the positions of becoming the mall’s representative and their deputy, with the runner-up to the leader winning the seat of deputy.
Additional conditions:
-The vote must be a unanimous vote for the leader to be elected
-It does not matter if the vote is willing or forced, all votes are considered equal in this scenario
Category: Main
Difficulty: C
Time limit: 4 days
Reward: 2,000 coins for all those involved in the process, Right to participate in Main Scenario 4, White Flag
Penalty for failure: [Avira Mall] loses the right to participate in Main Scenario 4s
They were going to have to elect a leader, and it’ll have to be done by a unanimous vote with everyone taking part.
Forced votes are also counted, say if an entire group of people were threatened into voting for a single candidate, the votes will still count. Many other groups or stations will probably end this scenario early, with brute force or coercion; giving people a reason to choose the more unethical way out of this scenario instead of simply convincing everyone you are a good leader.
This scenario is probably going to be arguably one of the hardest scenarios in the early scenarios. With how many people involved in this election, this leader thing won’t be easy.
[So every day at exactly 3:33 PM, there will be an election, except for the first day where the representatives for each floor will be chosen. Every day, the candidate with the least votes will be eliminated from the election. If you don’t manage to choose who will be this group's representative by the end of this week, this group will lose the right to participate in Scenario #4.]
Conroy said, flipping through the star stream equivalent of a PowerPoint presentation like a college professor explaining an assignment to a bunch of sleep-deprived college students.
Scenario 4 sounds important. If his memory is correct, it should be…
Checking his phone again, he clicks onto chapter 11, skimming through each chapter until he finds it.
What the scenario was.
The scenario was going to be “King’s Road”. If his source was correct, with how his dumb fantasy novel predicted the second scenario. Shisui is going to take a gamble here and bet on it being a somewhat reliable source. He doesn’t know who wrote it, so there was a possibility that some spirit who can see the future was the one who did. All he knows is that the author definitely wasn’t him. No wonder taking away the right to participate was considered an adequate penalty in a world obsessed with brutal outcomes to failed missions.
Because if they lose the right to the 4th scenario, it could only lead to two outcomes for the station; with neither of them being particularly pleasant.
- The group splits up, with some or most choosing to leave the station to become wanderers, separate from any group or affiliation in exchange for their own freedom during the Apocalypse. Unaware of the dangers it’ll bring. Their chances of survival decrease once they choose to either go solo or join a small group, with very little people having both the mindset and the skills to survive in the apocalypse. Leaving most of the wanderers in the early part of the King’s Road scenario to die, a fate everyone is trying to avoid.
- They get conquered by another group that does have the right to participate in the scenario of “King’s Road”, which could lead to a variety of outcomes depending on the group that conquers them. They will be unable to refuse orders from anyone from the main group due to a vassal and lord agreement that will be created upon the conquest of a group. They could be treated like slaves if they get unlucky enough.
The slavery thing could happen either way, regardless of their status upon their moment of surrender. If they get conquered, they will still be forced under the contract, following through with possible events of outcome number two.
However, a small chance for a miracle is still better than no chance.
That’s why no matter what happens, somebody needs to be elected by the end of this week. The exact person getting elected does not matter as much as the passing of the second scenario. They could always choose another leader in the future through a revolt or something similar right after the election.
[However, I’m not done yet. As you can see, the outside world is not ready for human inhabitation just yet. So I’ll be introducing some new people to your team, from the outside, because your mall wasn’t the only place that was hit by the scenarios.]
Shisui could see some people behind the glass doors that lead into the mall, there were a lot. Probably only a small percentage of the ones who survived the first scenario managed to get here. Since they were taking into account all surrounding areas, not simply another mall. So it includes apartment buildings, shops, transportation, etc.
The people were also in a green zone.
So this was why the ‘Grace Period’ scenario was implemented. It was to give the people outside more time to get to the mall. Shisui thought as he observed the blue barrier blocking the doors disappeared. Leaving the people outside scrambling through the door and to the mall. Which was an active green zone, at least for now.
Most of them made it, with the exception of one person who got shoved out of the door, out of the disappearing green zone into the waiting monsters. He was going to be eaten.
Shisui turned his head when he heard the first scream.
In front of him, there was a new screen. Placed over the first scenario screen, the only difference was this one was a sub-scenario.
A sub scenario has arrived!
Sub-scenario
Welcome the new survivors
Integrate the new survivors into your group
Category: Sub
Difficulty: F
Time limit: 1 week
Reward: 2,100 coins
Penalty for failure: A rival group fighting for control of [Avira Mall]
A single woman stood at the front of the group, who was presumably the leader, judging by the way she stood. She wore a librarian chain around her neck, which was attached to her glasses, making her appear like a random arts and crafts lady. Adding to that, she wore a knitted purple sweater.
“I hope this isn’t too much trouble for you, but may we stay here for the night?” She asked.
“My name is Agatha Miller and I’m the one in charge of this group.”
Christmas Omake:
Warning: Shisui is really affected by his toddler brain in this one.
“Mom, why does nobody arrest Santa for breaking into everybody’s houses? Isn’t that supposed to be illegal?” Shisui asked. He has never seen Santa with his own two eyes, however everybody around him tells him that Santa is real, and with no real knowledge of his new world. He chose to believe them.
Santa may be a nice grandpa handing out gifts to everyone. However, he can’t just break into somebody’s house to do that. If he could achieve that, it's unclear how compromised the security systems in his new world were .
The fact that everybody celebrates him is very confusing in Shisui’s opinion, however, since he hands out gifts to everyone. He’ll give Santa a pass.
Once the rest of the family has processed Shisui’s words, it was their turn to go bonkers. And by bonkers, he means to burst out laughing until they roll up on the floor and roll around like a bunch of worms.
“Mom, did you hear that? Shishi would make such a good comedian when he grows up?” Mika, his sister in his new world, said.
Patting his head, Mika began talking in her baby voice towards him with the beautiful sibling lie of.
“The reason why Santa can’t be arrested is because Santa is so sneaky. The police can’t catch him. The moment they get a call on which house he’s in, he’ll have already flown away with his reindeer sleigh.”
Seeing how the rest of his family (his dad and his sister) is still laughing, Shisui now knows that Santa does not exist.
So Santa’s like a god in this world. Although we have no proof of his existence we still celebrate him for festivities. Shisui thought as he began to calmly admire their new Christmas tree again.
Mika, disappointed by Shisui’s calm reaction to such news, decided to exaggerate turn Santa into a horror story for four-year-olds.
“Maybe he’ll even kidnap you, because of how cute you are, and sell you off to another family for a bag of carrots. He needs to feed his reindeer somehow. Reindeer are like dogs die when they eat chocolate.” Mika added, only to get even more disappointed when she saw Shisui being unaffected by her stories.
“If he wants to take me away, I’ll just hit him. In the head.” Shisui said, hitting the ground with an invisible bat to keep up the kiddie facade and to show how serious he was.
“Shishi, what will you even hit him with? You have nothing and Santa’s so strong even Dad can’t fight against him.” If Shisui was any other four-year-old, he’ll probably be asking his mom whether he could sleep in his parents’ bedroom tonight all while locking all the doors in the house to make sure Santa can’t break in. Luckily, he’s not, so his parents can be relieved of the duty of having to sleep with a frightened child on Christmas night.
“Mika, don’t scare your little brother like that. If he gets too scared, you’ll have to take responsibility and let him sleep with you, because neither me nor your dad wants to deal with a human furnace while sleeping.” Shisui’s mom scolded. Following the sound of her voice to the kitchen floor, he could see his mom wrapping up a gift for his sister.
“Mom, what’s that?” Shisui asked as he pointed to the comic book series his mom was wrapping.
It was called Naruto with a blonde boy holding a giant paintbrush in his mouth. The name was familiar in a way that rang some bells in Shisui’s head.
(He should know who the name belongs to, but he can’t. He doesn’t know if this was a fluke or intentional, but he still can’t remember everything about his past life. It might be because of his underdeveloped brain being unable to handle all his memories, but he can’t remember anything except for a bunch of random facts. Itachi likes dango and Kama likes takoyaki. The name of his first crush and best friend was Seiichi. It feels wrong. He’s losing himself. What even is happening? Why is he here? How did he end up here?)
Shisui decided to ignore the weird feeling in his gut for now as it wasn’t exactly relevant to the situation and a lot of common Japanese names rang off bells in his head too.
It’s not like everyone had a stupidly rare name back in the Shinobi world. Naruto may be a rare name, but it wasn’t out of the possibility for somebody to have.
However, just to make sure, he’ll have to go through the list of important names from his last life. Maybe the series will contain some clues as to how he ended up here if Naruto ends up being someone he knows.
“It’s a manga series, for your sister. She said that everyone else at school was reading it, so she wanted a set as well. This costed me and your father $60, so she better be grateful.” His mom huffed as she cut off the last of the packing tape needed for the gift wrapping.
“Shisui, hand me the roll of ribbons to your left,” Shisui’s mom ordered, observing what kind of ribbon arrangement would best suit the gift with its snowflake-patterned wrapping paper.
Handing his mom the roll of white ribbons to his right, or his mother’s left. He watched as his mother slid the ribbon across the blade of her scissors, curling it for the gift.
As the final touch-up to the gift was done, Shisui’s mom sat up on their kitchen room stool.
“Shisui, can you place the gift under the Christmas tree?” Shisui’s mom said, refusing to elaborate, but from the sweat dripping down her face, he could tell she was tired.
So he did as what any obedient child would do and placed the gift under the tree.
(His sister lost interest soon after, not wanting to read through all 67 volumes of the story and so they were handed to him in the process. Was it a gift, a curse, who knows? All Shisui knows was that this was the start of the lengthy and complex relationship he had with the series. A series that detailed what happened in the world he lived in, five years after his death.)
A/N: Seiichi was the teammate who Shisui accidentally killed and kind of his first crush I guess in this series, it wasn't really anything deep since he was like seven when this happened but yeah. Just a detail I guess. I did not plan the mental breakdown part so poor Shisui, suffering from getting his memories sealed away and being put into a new world, all while internally fearing that he's losing his old identity. On the bright side, now he can finally understand all of Kama's memes.
Omake: Gifts
“Happy Birthday Shishi!” His sister, Mika, said happily as she handed him his unwrapped gift of a Naruto plushie.
“Thank you Mika, I love it!” Shisui replied halfheartedly, as he had grown tired of receiving Naruto themed plushies for two consecutive years for any holiday where gift-giving was expected.
It probably started when Shisui was about six and began sneaking into his sister’s room to read Naruto as a child with no internet access. This was the best he could do in order to find out what the fuck was the relationship between the Manga Naruto and the events of his past life.
Sadly, Shisui was caught by his sister multiple times, mostly out of carelessness with his child brain and lack of control over the loudness of his movements.
As Shisui was no longer a ninja kid with sensing abilities or super-speed, he could do nothing but get caught red-handed by his sister reading her manga books.
She then gave them to him for free, because Mika needed to empty her book cabinets for more romance novels. Which ended up with the misunderstanding between the two siblings that Shisui was an avid Naruto fan.
Now she just buys Naruto merch for him whenever she was too lazy to think up a proper gift for him, which was about most of the time.
His room is now starting to look like the room of a hardcore Naruto fanboy even if Naruto wasn’t even his favourite character.
Don’t get him wrong, he likes Naruto. The thing is, he doesn’t like Naruto enough to have a room full of merch for him without his sister’s interference.
Putting the plushie to the side with a strained smile, Shisui tried to forget about how his room must look like to any guests by unwrapping the gifts his mom got him.
Which was a bunch of decorations she bought from a Shinto temple this summer when they visited his grandparents who lived in the mountains.
The same decorations. She was supposed to gift a friend but never got to because she keeps forgetting about them.
“Thanks mom, I’m sure I’ll have the room to put these rocks after I manage to find the time to clean out my drawers.” Shisui quipped as he stared at the pile of river rocks and bells his mom gave him.
His sarcastic remark only got a single “ungrateful boy” from his mother, who decided to forgive him this one time because it was his birthday.
As for his dad, well, his dad just gave him $100 for his birthday. Which was the best gift by far because he can actually use it for something outside of decorating his room.
Putting the gifts on the floor, his mother brought out the Birthday cake from the fridge as his father began testing the lighter to see if it was still working.
Watching as his father lights the candles on his birthday cake, everyone prepares to sing “Happy birthday”.
“Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you.”
“Happy birthday dear Shisui, happy birthday to you.”
The room consisting of exactly four people, erupted into applause as Shisui blew out his birthday candles.
If it was one thing that Shisui appreciates the most, other than his country not being in a constant war. It was his family.
They might use him as trash can for all their unnecessary items, however, they still loved him and he liked that.
“So Shishi, if Naruto isn’t your favorite character, who is?” Mika asked, sitting on her bed.
“I don’t think I have a favorite character anymore.” Shisui lied as he studied the pink rug he was sitting on. Admiring how dirty it was and how his sister never bothered to wash it.
Kama was his favorite character, “was” because his ex blew up the entire clan compound, committed way too many war crimes for his liking, and permanently scarred Itachi as he was forced to kill his brother to repent for the sins he committed. It was all of those actions above that made Kama his least favorite character and what caused Shisui to break up with Kama. (Even if Kama was technically dead, he’s still breaking up with him just to be petty.)
Out of spite, Itachi was now his favorite with Sasuke following in at a close second, with Kama himself taking third place due to bombing their entire clan.
(Part of Shisui was telling himself he was being too hard on him. It had to be one of them, eventually. Kama had to take the burden in order not to break his younger, kinder twin. Bombing wasn’t the worst way to go out, and if the anime did reflect what happened behind the scenes in their timeline. It was all inevitable in the end.
Shisui still can’t find it in himself to forgive Kama for what happened yet. No harm was done to anyone but himself by doing this, so why not? Kama was dead. It won't affect him in any way. So no harm done.)
“That’s sad. Are you sure? I promise I won’t tell my friends about this if that’s what you’re scared about,” Mika whined, as she tried to wrangle the secret out of Shisui’s hands. Sadly, Shisui wasn’t going to let her have this one. It’s just too personal for anyone other than him to know.
“No, I just don’t really have a favourite anymore.” Shisui lied once again. Kama was still begrudgingly his favourite.
However, he can’t tell her that or else Kama will laugh his face off at that admission up in the pure lands and will blackmail him with that information until the day their souls disappear.
The other reason was because it would be very weird to have your ex’s face on anything but a photo album and maybe your phone’s wallpaper if you hadn’t gotten over them yet. Shisui is mentally unprepared for a Kama plushie to occupy his room this Christmas.
“We all move on someday. Maybe when I’m older, I’ll tell you about who my new favourite is.” Shisui lied again. He wasn’t planning on revisiting the series anymore.
He doesn’t need a reminder of the tragedy that had befallen everyone.
In his case, it was better to let bygones be bygone.
(He doesn’t want to face the sheer reality of what his actions caused just yet.)
Fun fact: After the Uchiha Massacre, Shisui officially broke up with Kama in spirit. Which is why he refers to him as his ex.
Ironic since in the first chapter he still ends up having a date with said ex’s reincarnation but we don’t talk about that.
Watersushi, you made him petty yet I barely see that pettiness in your fanfic. So this is what that character trait ended up being like. I would also like to rename this series following Shisui as “keeping up with the Uchihas” because we need to know what happened to all of them, even the dead ones.
Read the fanfic this was inspired by for context.
