Chapter 4
When Steve left, everything calmed down slightly, meaning you all stopped talking about the subject. That is until Natasha came to you three. "What are you going with? This conference is in three days and we need to know whose side you're on."
You spoke, "I'm with Steve on this." You were determined to fight on the side you thought was right, and this was that side. Natasha nodded as she turned to the twins. You looked at them both.
Pietro got between you and Wanda as he said, "I'm with Y/N." Natasha turned to Wanda. She looked between you and Pietro, then to Natasha. "I-I don't know..." She crossed her arms nervously.
Natasha nodded at her answer. She got up and began to leave. She stopped and said, "If you choose a side, the conference is in three days."
She nodded and the three of you went upstairs.
-
The conference was taking place and you and the twins were at the tower. You sat in the living room, your knees curled up to your chest as you watched with Wanda and Pietro. You all quickly got bored with it and you decided to play a game with Pietro. Wanda strolled over to the kitchen.
As you saw her walk down, you told Pietro, "Hey, I'll be right back." He dropped his shoulders dramatically and sighed, "Okay." Before you walked down the hall, you asked, "Hey, where's your soulmate? Uh, Irina?"
He nodded, "Oh, yeah. She went on a vacation with her family. She said she should be back next week, so..." You nodded, "Gotcha."
You then began walking down the hall, stopping just behind the door frame when you heard Wanda and Vision speaking. "Wanda?" Vision asked.
"Hmm?"
"No one dislikes you, Wanda." He told her. She hesitated before she said, "Thanks."
"Oh, you're welcome. No, it's an...involuntary response in their amygdala. They can't help but be afraid of you."
"Are you?"
"My amygdala is synthetic, so..." As he trailed off, Wanda laughed.
"I used to think of myself one way. But after this..." You could slightly hear the wisps of her magic, "I am something else. I'm still me, I think, but...that's not what everyone else sees."
"Do you know, I don't know what this is? Not really. I know it's not of this world, that it powered Loki's staff, gave you your abilities, but...its true nature is a mystery. And yet, it is part of me." You assumed Vision was talking about the gem in his head.
"Are you afraid of it?" asked Wanda.
"I wish to understand it. The more I do, the less it controls me. One day...who knows? I may even control it."
"I don't know what's in this but it is not paprika. I'm gonna go to the store. I'll be back in 20 minutes."
"Alternatively, we could order a pizza?"
"Vision, are you not letting me leave?"
You walked into the kitchen at that point. Vision hadn't noticed you as he continued speaking, "It is a question of safety." He blocked her way.
"I can protect myself." She told him.
"Not yours. Mr. Stark would like to avoid the possibility of another public incident. Until the Accords are on a...more secured foundation."
"And what do you want?" Wanda asked.
"For people to see you...as I do." He said. She looked at him gravely.
You tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around. "Thank you, but I would like to have my soulmate back."
He looked at you before slowly stepping aside, allowing her to step over to you. You gave her a hug and she placed a soft kiss to your lips. You smiled and gave a short glare to Vision before you both joined Pietro in the living room.
-
It's now nighttime at the tower, you and the twins are in the living room. You read a book with Wanda as Pietro fiddled with some of Tony's really expensive items. Vision floated above the floor. An explosion in the distance lit up the room for a moment. You all looked out of the window.
"What is it?" Wanda asked.
"Stay here, please." Vision asked as he left. You and Wanda set the book to the side as you stood, watching him leave.
You heard something behind you and you and Wanda immediately turn around. Wanda compelled a knife across the room, you using your powers to light it up. It stopped dead in front of the face of someone you didn't think you'd be seeing for a while.
Clint frickin' Barton.
You take back your fire and he points the knife to the side, away from his face. "Guess I shoulda knocked." He said. You couldn't help but smile. Pietro turned at the sudden sound of the voice, too caught up in his snooping to notice sooner. "Oh my god!" Wanda exclaimed.
"What are you doing here?" Wanda asked. Clint answered, "Disappointing my kids." He shot arrows to both sides of the room. "I'm supposed to go water-skiing. Cap needs our help. Come on."
You and the twins began to exit the room with him, holding hands to leave faster, but you all stopped when Vision spoke, "Clint. You should not be here."
"Really? I retire for, what, like five minutes, and it all goes to shit." Clint said as he turned around. You shrugged, "Pretty much."
"Please consider the consequences of your actions." Vision said. You rolled your eyes. He was really getting on your nerves. "Okay, they're considered. Okay, we gotta go." Clint said.
Vision tried to move forward but was held in a force field, crackling and sparkling between the two arrows. Wanda stayed back and you stopped looking at her.
"It's this way." Clint said, stopping at the door when she didn't move. Pietro rushed back to her, "Sister."
"I've caused enough problems." You walked back to her, "Baby, come on." You whispered.
Frowning, Clint ran back from the door. "You gotta help me, Wanda. Look, you wanna mope, can go to high school. You wanna make amends, you get off your ass." He looked back and saw Vision and muttered, "Shit."
Vision broke the force field with his gem. He punched Clint to the floor and he recovers quickly. "I knew I should've stretched." Clint commented. Your arms lit up, fire crawling up them as you prepared to fight. Wanda placed an arm on your shoulder, she looked into your eyes. "Y/N..."
You gazed back into hers before sighing, letting the fire dim and fade away. You looked back over and Vision had Clint in a headlock. Pietro zoomed over to help, but ended up running straight through Vision.
"Oh, come on!" He complained. Your fire returned but before you could do anything, Wanda was already warming up to her powers, her eyes going scarlet.
"Clint, you can't overpower me." Vision spoke. Clint strained to tell him, "I know I can't. But she can."
Vision looked up to see Wanda, her hands glowing with her magic"Vision, that's enough. Let him go. I'm leaving."
"I can't let you." He told her. Your eyes began to flicker with flames. Vision was starting to piss you off at this point.
She held her hands apart, glowing with energy. Clint slipped from Vision's grasp. "I'm sorry." She told Vision. He faltered, "If you do this...they will never stop being afraid of you."
Your hands ignited and it traveled up your arms. She spoke, "I can't control their fear, only my own." She moved closer. Vision glowed from within and crashed through the floor, and several floors beneath. You all stood over the holes in the floors.
"Come on. We got one more stop." Clint said. You and the twins exchange a look before you take Wanda's hand, the four of you rushing out of the tower.
