Summary
For his failure to secure the Magna Corrigo, Deadpool has earned the vengeful wrath of Dr Doom. Now, an assassin has been chosen to enact this contract.

Kristoff Vernard: Wait here. His Majesty will see you very soon. And please ... don't touch anything.

Cheshire: I wouldn't dream of it.

*footsteps*

Cheshire: This is not my first palace. *whistles to herself, impressed* Some fine pieces of artwork. Statuettes. Pages of manuscripts. Tomes. Very fine.

*door opens and closes, footsteps approach*

Dr Doom: You appreciate my collection, Miss Nguyen?

Cheshire: I do ... Your Majesty. Are all these genuine?

Dr Doom: "Genuine?" Haha. Genuine is such a subjective term, don't you think? These pieces are "genuine" in that they have mystic properties. But ask a book - one that does not know anything about magic - to tell you that they exist and it would respond by saying that what you are looking at now is little more than a fairytale. That is often the way with the objet d'occult. Haha. Fascinating stuff. But I must be boring you. Come. Walk with me. I did not bring you here to wax lyrical about the arcane.

Cheshire: No? Shame. I was rather enjoying browsing your collection.

Dr Doom: Then perhaps I will give you a private tour ... after the job is complete.

Cheshire: Hmm, I think I would like that, Your Majesty.

Dr Doom: Victor. Please. Call me Victor.

Cheshire: Very well ... Victor. Now tell me. Why did you reach out and contact the League of Shadows?

Dr Doom: I was reliably informed that, after the Dark Brotherhood, the League of Shadows is the best agency for mercenaries and assassins that money could buy. And I require both. Two years ago, I hired a mercenary to steal for me an object of great mystical importance from the private collection of one of my family's sworn nemesis, Johann Shmidt, the Red Skull. This artefact, the Magna Corrigo had for me, little importance on its own. But together ... paired with the Bloodstone Chalice and the map to the Blood Spring of Tamriel, it would give me a wealth of knowledge over Vampire lore. For, at that time, Dracula himself had formed a partnership with Hydra, and the last thing I wanted to see was an immortal Hydra. Hydra... Hydra is a blight on this world. As is Dracula. Together the two would plunge the world into chaos. And I abhor chaos. Anyway ... to cut a long story short, this mercenary I hired to steal the Magna Corrigo, failed his mission. Destroyed the artefact and fled New York, under the protection of The Midnight Suns and their leader, Hunter Harkness. Where he is now, I do not know, but I have a few ideas.

Cheshire: I think I get the picture. Is this where I come in?

Dr Doom: Hmm. Yes indeed. This is exactly "where you come in." I want you to find the mercenary, and I want you to bring him back to Latveria. ALIVE. Whereupon he will either die for his failure or atone in a manner that I see fit. Though... death will be the kindest of those two options, I can assure you of that.

Cheshire: I see. And does my target have a name?

Dr Doom: Wade Wilson. Goes by the name Deadpool. A ... metahuman (?) Mutant (?) Whatever you want to call him, he has ... abilities. A regenerative healing factor, cellular recomposition...

Cheshire: So in other words, a target who can't easily die and won't come quietly.

Dr Doom: Oh no. He will certainly not come quietly. Mr Wilson has earned the moniker of "the Merc with a Mouth" for a reason. It would be an achievement if you managed to shut him up. Hmmm. Do this for me, and you will have, not only my gratitude, but Latveria's allegiance to The Light. I have been told I am a good ally in a crisis.

Cheshire: Very well. I will relay your terms back to the Sensei. You will have our answer by sundown.

Dr Doom: I look forward to your answer.
