To be honest, being captured by Friends of Humanity and tied to chairs wasn’t the weirdest thing that had happened to Logan and Morph. In fact, it wouldn’t even make the top ten.
They had put an inhibitor collar on Morph so they couldn’t use their powers, and Logan was thinking about how to escape when some guys with needles showed up. Logan hated needles.
"Thanks, but no thanks, guys, we’re all up to date on our vaccines!" Morph joked, always trying to lighten the mood.
Even though Logan hated needles, he wasn’t worried about what they were going to inject him with. With his power, it probably wouldn’t affect him, but Morph wasn’t like him, and he started panicking as they got closer to them.
"Stay away from them!" Logan yelled, trying to break free and making the chair shake.
"Don’t you dare touch them, or else...!"
"Or else what, mutant? You can’t do anything," one of the men said while attempting something on Morph’s arm.
"When I get out of here, I’ll show you what I can do!" Wolverine growled.
"This will loosen your tongue, mutant. We’re going to get every bit of useful information out of you—your weaknesses, your secrets," another of the men said to Morph.
"Ohhh, so it’s truth serum?"
"It’s not truth serum."
Logan was still trying to break free from his restraints. He couldn’t trust that these guys were telling the truth; it could be poison... Morph gave him a reassuring look.
"It’s fine, Wolverine, I don’t feel anything..." they said, looking at Logan, before turning back to the men. "Actually, that’s a lie—I feel a lot. It is truth serum!"
"It’s not truth serum!" one of the men responded.
"Anything you want to say, filthy mutant?" one of the men sneered.
"Well, the collar is really uncomfortable, and so are the restraints, but I’m a little surprised the chair is uncomfortable too. Didn’t you have any other chairs? Maybe a cushion?" Logan chuckled. Of course Morph would start rambling before giving up any team secrets.
"Why don’t you tell us about your teammates, hmm?" one of the men asked in an irritated tone.
"Well... if we’re starting with Wolverine, he’s super old. He’s technically a dinosaur... Oh, speaking of dinosaurs, the new Jurassic World movie is coming out," Morph looked at Logan. "We’ll have to go see it. Do you think the others would want to come? Although, with our luck, the cinema will probably get attacked—oh! No way! I just realized the movie is called The Lost World, just like one of the books by Arthur Conan Doyle, you know, the guy who wrote Sherlock Holmes. Do you think it’s a coincidence? Maybe they named it that on purpose..."
"ENOUGH!!" one of the men shouted.
"When you play the jukebox, you have to listen to the whole song..." Logan said, grinning with his teeth bared.
"Do people still use jukeboxes?" Morph asked.
"I’ve had enough of you!" one of the men grabbed Morph by the jacket collar.
A loud noise echoed, and when they turned to look, Logan had broken the chair and freed himself. He shoved the men aside and quickly used his claws to cut Morph free and remove the collar. The men rushed at them, but Logan had no trouble taking one of them down, immobilizing him. He extended his claws, ready to strike, but gentle hands touched his arm.
"Even though I’m not against giving these idiots what they deserve, the X-Men don’t kill, Logan," Morph said calmly.
"But he..."
Morph’s touch wasn’t firm; they were only lightly holding Logan’s arm. If he wanted to, he could easily brush their hands away.
"I don’t want you to stain yourself with blood," Morph said, their brow slightly furrowed, and Logan thought they looked like a sad puppy.
Logan sighed and retracted his claws. "Let’s get out of here."
Once they were outside the place where they had been held, they started walking back to the school.
"Are you sure you’re feeling okay?" Logan asked, concerned.
"My neck hurts a little from the collar," they replied, rubbing their hand on their neck. "But besides that, I feel fine... Hey, I know you wanted to hurt those guys, but you’re a good man, Logan. That’s why I love you..."
Shit, the serum was still in effect. Logan stared at them, surprised.
"Because you’re my best friend. And you know who else I love? The team. We’re like a family, I love them all."
*Nailed it.*
"Well, we should hurry back. I’m sure the team is worried," they said, walking past Logan.
But Logan grabbed their arm.
"I love you too."
Morph felt like time had frozen.
"You’re also my best friend."
Morph smiled. Logan wasn’t the type to open up, and hearing him say he loved them, even if it wasn’t the same way Morph did, made them happy. Knowing they were important to him made them feel warm inside.
"Pfft, next time you can invite me on a date," Morph joked, lightly punching Logan’s shoulder.
Logan smiled. "I’ll consider it if next time you let me use my claws."
Morph spent the entire walk back cracking jokes about the Friends of Humanity, and Logan thought that maybe he should invite them on a date someday.
