So Slytherin is something
Aurora shared a dorm with three other girls Portia Parkinson, Thalia Greengrass and Cynthia Nott. The trio very obviously knew each other before Hogwarts. That was one thing her aunt hadn’t thought about. The only people Aurora had been introduced to were either too old to be at Hogwarts family or both. They had all chosen beds close to each other, so Aurora got the one in the corner. The bed was all made of dark wood with green curtains. and decorated with a Slytherin snake. These people were ridiculously dedicated to the dark and gloomy aesthetic Aurora thought.
Aurora found the storybook she’d gotten from Sirius in her school trunk and started reading in it on her bed. She hadn’t had time to read it much at home because of her tight schedule but now that she was finally away from her strict aunt, she thought she might even finish it when she wasn’t busy doing homework.
“What are you reading,” Thalia Greengrass asked.
Aurora looked up briefly from her book “Oh just a fairy-tale book my cousin gave me” she answered.
“You still read fairy tales” Portia Parkinson laughed. She took the book and began reading it “This is in French” she said, “Why is it in French?”.
“Because I’m from France” Aurora answered.
Portia gave her a sceptic look “Where is your ascent then” she asked.
“My father is English,” she told her.
“Stop interrogating her” Cynthia Nott scolded them from her bed.
Portia huffed “Fine,” she huffed the after a moment she exclaimed, “Did you hear about that Snape boy”.
“No, what about him,” Cynthia asked.
Portia smiled” Apparently, he has a pet Mudblood”.
“No! … really” Thalia exclaimed.
“Yes Lily Evans” Portia grinned “and a Gryffindor at that”
“Wow a Gryffindor and a Mudblood, he’s an overachiever” Cynthia replied.
Aurora who had been trying and failing to get any reading done huffed and then rose from her bed.
“Where are you going,” Cynthia asked.
“Down to the common room” she replied.
“Okay, be back before curfew alright”.
“Yeah sure” she answered with a huff”.

Down in the common room, she found a chair overlooking the Great Lake. With most of the other Slytherins busy in their dorm rooms, she could finally focus on her book, and she sat there engrossed in her book until someone tapped her shoulder.
“You should head off to bed, “she said.
Aurora looked up from her book” Oh, okay”.
“You’re Aurora Black right, Black's cousin,” she asked.
Aurora smiled “You know Sirius?”
“Yeah, he asked me to look after you, actually you and Regulus”. she said.
“But he’s in Gryffindor,” Aurora asked.
The girl laughed “You know most of us don’t really care that much care that much about some house rivalry”.
Aurora raised an eyebrow at that.
She laughed “Okay some people don’t care, I’m Dorcas by the way Dorcas Meadows.”
She smiled and Aurora smiled back.
“Now I think it's your bedtime and remember if there is anything you can ask me okay”.
“Okay,” Aurora said then she walked back to her dorm.

The other girls had already gone to bed when she came in so she changed into her pyjamas and then lay down. She looked up in the selling and waited for sleep, but it never came the only thing she could focus on was the sound of the lake. After a while, she gave up and rose from her bed.
She wondered about the castle for a while careful to not run into Filch or Madame Norris whom Sirius had warned her about. When she had wandered for a while, she almost walked into a girl.
“Oh sorry,” the girl said.
Aurora looked up and saw a girl with red hair and striking green eyes.
“No worries” she answered.
The girl smiled “I’m Lily” she told her.
“Lily Evans?”
“Yeah, you’ve heard about me?” she asked.
Aurora laughed awkwardly “My dormmates talked about you, and this Snape bloke”.
Evans looked at the green colour of her uniform “Oh” she said, “probably not anything nice then”.
“No, not really” she laughed awkwardly.
“Well, I need to get back to the Gryffindor common room,” Evans said.
“Wait you're a Gryffindor!” Aurora exclaimed.
Lily gestured to her uniform “I mean, yeah, why?”
Do you know where Sirius is”?
“Sirius Black”
“Yeah, he’s my cousin”.
“Oh, you’re Aurora Black”.
“Yeah that’s me”
“You know I’m really not supposed to show you our common room” Evans trailed off.
“Please, I just need to talk with him” she begged.
Evans huffed “Fine then I’ll show you”. She began walking and Aurora followed her through the castle until they reached a painting of a lady in a fancy dress.
“Password,” the painting said.
“Discombobulate,” Lily told the painting after which the door opened.
She walked up some stairs and then to a door then knocked on it “Black” She whispered.
“Evans, what do you want?” her cousin answered.
“Your cousin wants to talk to you,” Evans told him.
He opened the door “Rory, what’s wrong?”. He asked.
“Nothing,” she said but the quiver of her voice betrayed her.
Sirius sighed” Come in,” he said.
She followed him inside the dorm where the other boys sat playing cards, and by the look of it, James was winning.
“Oh, hey Aurora,” Remus said “You can join the next game if you want” he smiled
“you lads play without me I’ll just be talking to Rory here,” Sirius told the boys. He focused on her “So Rory what did you want to talk about” he asked her.
She sighed “Siri, I miss home,” she told him.
He scoffed “You miss Grimmauld Place, really”.
“No, my real home you know”.
He smiled “What do you miss?” he asked.
“I miss my mum and my dad, and my sister”. She sighed “I haven’t seen them in almost a year,” she told him.
“Tell me about them”
“My sister Selena, she’s very brave she would have been a Gryffindor she told him, she would never be quiet when any kind of injustice was happening” she told him.
“She sounds great,” he told her.
She smiled “She would be disappointed in me you know”.
“why’s that”.
“I didn't speak up when the girls in my dorms were saying awful things” she exclaimed.
Sirius looked at her “What were they saying? “He asked her.
“Wrong things, about Evans” she avoided his eyes “Things you’ve said I shouldn’t say”.
“Lily Evans?” James asked.
She sighed “Yeah”.
“Oh,” Sirius said, “why didn't you?” he asked, “say anything I mean”.
“I was afraid, what if Walburga found out” she answered.
“You know if it's to keep yourself safe I think it’s okay” Peter explained.
Sirius looked her deep in the eyes “You’re a good person Aurora, okay don’t let the Slytherins change that about you remember that” he told her. “now you can play one game with us and then you need to find your bed, okay”
“Okay” she smiled
Slytherin might not be very fun but at least she had Sirius.
