Peter stared at the skyline. He always enjoyed the view from high up. It was tempting to lift the mask up and feel the breeze against him, even that high up though he didn't want to risk it. There could be cameras anywhere, and he couldn't risk his identity like that. One day, he promised himself, one day he'd be able to feel the wind rush past as he swung around.
In the distance Peter spotted something strange. Strange wasn't really out of the ordinary for New York City anymore, but it wasn't a good sign. He tilted his head slightly and squinted. He couldn't really make out what was going on, but he could tell it wasn't good.
His concerns were confirmed when his com buzzed to life in his mask. He only got connected with the Avengers when the situation was dire. Peter took a deep breath and shot a web out, starting his journey towards the scene.
"Spider-Man, are you live?" Steve asked.
"I'm on route to the scene," Peter said, Steve kept things professional on the coms.
"This is a dangerous one kid," Tony said, cutting in.
"Professionalism on the coms Iron-Man," Steve said.
"What's the situation?" Peter asked, not in the mood to listen in on one of their arguments over com etiquette.
"Alien invasion, unknown species. Armed, presumed deadly," Bucky said.
"Spider-Man, be careful," Natasha added. She didn't so much care for professionalism, more so secrets. She knew that Tony's tech was the best on the planet, excluding Wakanda's, but she didn't trust it to be unhackable. Peter appreciated it, he didn't need his name going through the coms.
"We are on route," Steve said. Peter nodded to himself. He knew he'd get there first, and if the Avengers knew so much they had eyes on the situation, so he wouldn't really be alone. He'd be getting advice the entire time he was solo. Not to mention he'd mostly just be getting different angles on the situation to report back on.
Peter stopped on a roof near the scene, and analysed the situation. He didn't really know what he was looking at.
"On scene," Peter reported.
"Spider-Man turn on cameras," Bruce said.
"Who's on watch?" he asked, as Karen turned his eye lens cameras on.
"Pepper and Bruce," Steve told him. Peter hummed. That made sense, Pepper liked to keep an eye on them, and Bruce didn't like going out in the field unless he really had too. Peter heard the blasters of the Iron-Man suit and relaxed slightly.
"Plan?" Peter asked.
"Disarm and restrain," Steve relayed. Peter stuck his arm out and shot a web, he leapt from the building before it had even connected to the building and swung.
Peter hung back, observing how they moved. Once he was certain he understood them, he shot out a web and stepped off the ledge before it had connected. He flipped mid air and shot out a different web.
As he swung with one arm he moved around on a planned path. He shot a web out with the other arm, and watched as it wrapped around one of the aliens. He flipped himself up onto a roof and shot out a web to grab the weapon.
Peter was careful as it flung back at him. He didn't know how it worked, and he didn't want to accidentally trigger it. He set it down on the roof and backed away.
Pepper relayed his actions across the comms, alerting his teammates to the weapon on the roof. He glanced to the little screen inlaid in his mask and checked the web fluid percentages quickly.
He took a running leap, only shooting a web out after he was off the building. It hit right where he'd wanted it to and he swung around with ease. Peter shot another web out, pulling one of the weapons out of the grasp of an alien. It skidded across and empty roof and Pepper relayed its location over the comms.
"Good work Spider-Man, keep that up," Steve said.
"Will do," Peter said. He swung around, picking up some extra momentum, before he used another web to steal a third weapon.
He webbed that alien up too. The restraints knocked him over and distracted another one of the invaders.
Peter continued on like that. Swinging around the area, stealing weapons, and restraining them. He preformed what Mr Stark occasionally referred to as dangerous stunts, but they were normal Spider-Man manevours.
He should have paid more attention to his web fluid percentages.
Peter shot out a web as he stepped off a tall building. He shot another one out at an alien, and watched it ravel around him.
The first web he shot out didn't connect with a building. He'd ran out of web fluid. He watched in horror as nothing came out of his shooters despite his attempts.
Peter continued falling.
He raised his other arm and tried to shoot out a web that if it landed would have him landing on a fire escape.
The web stretched out, and Peter watched it closely. It almost felt as if everything around him was going in slow motion as the web stretched towards the building.
It disconnected from his shooter and Peter's eyes widened.
"Spider-Man are you ok?" Pepper asked over the comms. He couldn't find his voice as he fell.
The momentum of swinging and falling had somehow ended him up almost on his back as he fell to the ground.
"Spider-Man report," Steve said after a beat.
"Spider-Man?" Bucky asked quickly after. Peter took a deep breath and looked up. The sky was clear. At least the sky was clear. It beat the rain.
"Pep what's happening?" Tony asked. Peter could hear his worry clearly. He didn't want to worry Mr Stark.
"I think Spider-Man is falling," Bruce said, his voice tight. Through Bruce's comm line he could hear worried breathing. Pepper's probably, Peter realised.
"Little Spider, report," Natasha said. Peter took a deep breath. He could feel the wind through his suit, he was falling too fast.
"Peter," Tony said, blind panic in his voice. Peter's throat tightened. He hadn't meant to fall. He hadn't meant to worry everyone.
The sky was getting further away, and the tops of building had appeared in his vision. He could hear people trying to rush to him, but the aliens were putting up much more of a fight than they had been before.
Peter took a final deep breath and closed his eyes as he continued to fall.
