Date Night

ChapterSix:DateNight

Rogue was in such a rush she thought of just phasing through her bedroom door, but something went wrong and she slammed right into it. “Damn!” she yelled in frustration. Even though she was in pain she fished through her bag to find her key. She was able to find it even it though it took a few minutes. By that time Kitty was walking down the hall.

“Something wrong, Rogue?” she asked as she stopped by the door.

“Only that ah tried to phase through the door, but it didn’t work,” she said and turned the key.

As they both walked inside Kitty said, “That used to happen to me a lot. It just takes practice.”

“Well, ah got a date t’night and what if it happens if we…” Kitty laughed which made Rogue turn around to face her. “That’s not funny.”

“I’m sorry, but I was just thinking of you and Remy kissing and you phasing right through him.”

“That’s not what I wanted to hear,” Rogue said as she rifled through her closet to find the right outfit. There was that little black dress that Kitty bought her for Christmas, but she never dared wear it. It was a mini that barely covered her ass and with string straps and good amount of cleavage. Tonight was as good a night as any to try it out. How long this power switch was going to last was anyone’s guess.

“So, you’re finally going to wear that?” Kitty squealed.

“Yeah, and ah always liked it, but it’s was always too dangerous a dress.”

“Still is,” Kitty said and plopped down on her bed. “Don’t know what I’m going to wear, or how to tell Lance about this.”

“Come on, Kitty, just be honest. If he loves you then he’ll understand.”

“But I was going to wear that wrap dress I just bought, but it has no sleeves, and…”

“Wait, ah got an idea.” Rogue said and ran over to her dresser. In the top drawer she had a collection of gloves and pulled out a pair of shear long gloves with some flowered embroidery. “Ah think these will do.”

“Those are so pretty,” Kitty said coming up to inspect them. “When did you get these?”

“A present from Remy,” Rogue said as Kitty hesitated taking them. “Ah only wore them once, but you can borrow them.”

“They looked like they’re special, so I don’t want to get them all messed up or any. Are you sure?” Kitty asked, looking hopeful but not wanting to come off as pushy.

“Of course ah am,” Rogue said. “Ah know my powers and these will help.”

“Now, what about kissing? Lance always wants to kiss, and if we do I’ll drain him.”

“Then use this, Rogue said and pulled out one of her special handkerchiefs. Kitty looked skeptical. “Don’t worry. It’s never been used.”

“It’s not that,” Kitty said and took the dainty piece of cloth from Rogue, but how do I do it.”

“Well, when you want to kiss just hold it up between you. That way there’s no danger from touchin.’”

“Okay, but is it going to feel the same?” she asked but Rogue just rolled her eyes and smirked.

“Don’t knock it until you tried it,” Rogue said and left for the bathroom to change. She carried the dress on one arm while strapping her makeup bag over her shoulder. She also had the things she needed to fix her hair in that bag, so she didn’t have to go back in forth.

Just as she reached the bathroom she heard one of the younger kids yell out her name. It was Sam shooting down the hallway until he reached the bathroom door. “Oh, Roguey, lover boy is here!”

She opened the bathroom door just a crack and saw that Sam was making kissing gestures which made her roll her eyes. “Tell him ah’ll down in a minute.”

“Better hurry. He’s all alone with Logan.”

Rogue’s anxiety heightened at the thought of her boyfriend and her mentor in the same room. Logan still hadn’t forgiven him for kidnapping her and she did her best to keep them both at a distance. Logan somewhat accepted their dating being that her powers limited their contact, but now things were different, so she cringed at the thought of what he might do to Remy.

She hurried and fixed her hair and ran back to her room to put her shoes on. She had some simple black pumps that matched perfectly with her dress and her black leather jacket. Tonight she would drop the gloves even though she had a pair of black lace ones that would complement her outfit. She saw them sitting on top of her dresser and thought for a moment about wearing them. She picked them up and stuffed them into her purse. She waited long enough and left her room to make her way downstairs.

At the same time…

Remy road up on his motorcycle and sensed the younger female residents were ogling him. He heard some whispers from a group of girls no more than twelve. “Isn’t he cute?” he heard one girl say. “Rogue is so lucky,” came another. “I wonder if he has a younger brother?” The comments made Remy smirk. There was only one girl in this house he was interested in.

He rang the doorbell hoping Rogue herself would answer, but knowing his girl she was probably doing some last minute primping. When the door opened, he wasn’t one bit surprised to see Logan. The older man gave him a scowl.

“Rogue around?” Remy asked as he stepped inside. He didn’t wait to be invited in. He knew the layout of the mansion long before he and Rogue became an item.

“Maybe,” Logan said in answer to his question. “Not that I want her hanging out with you anyway.”

“I know you don’t like me and Rogue goin’ out, but she’s a grown woman and she can make her own choices.”

“Almost grown,” Logan corrected. “She ain’t even out of high school yet.”

“She will in a few months, and she’s 18. That makes her an adult.”

“And she deserves better than the likes of you,” Logan said but it only made Remy smirk.

“You know, Wolverine, you’re right. She deserves better than ole Remy, but for some reason she likes me. So, Remy gonna do whatever he can to make her happy.”

At that moment Rogue appeared to see what looked like a facedown between Logan and Gambit. “Hello, boys,” she said, and Remy looked over towards her and whistled.

“Well, hello, Chere,” Remy said taking in the view.

“Watch it, Cajun,” Logan said, but Rogue stood next to Remy.

“Ah’ll be back before curfew,” she said and exited through the front door. Gambit hesitated. “You comin’, Swamp rat?”

He followed her out, and she was the first to reach his motorcycle. She got on holding the handlebars. When he reached her he was the one who looked confused. “What you think your doin’, Chere?” he asked.

“Ah’m drivin’,” she said with a devilish look in her eyes.

“My bike?” Remy asked playfully.

“Ah know how t’ride, so get on, Cajun,” she said and started up the bike.

“Well, dis will work out better,” he said and got on behind her. Then he whispered in her ear. “Remy get t’put his hands all over you.”

“Whatever your pleasure,” she said and drove off down the driveway. There was a play going on in the park, Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, one of Rogue’s favorites. She stopped the bike in the parking lot adjacent to the park.

As she got off the bike Remy looked over at her. She had a look of satisfaction on her face. “You know, you’re de only girl I let ride my bike.”

“Ah better be,” she said teasingly. Right then he looked down at her hand.

“I see you’re not wearin’ your gloves,” he said and she turned away.

“Well, since we have a little time before the show we need to talk,” she said and walked towards a nearby bench. She used her finger to signal him to follow her.

She sat down looking up at him as he was just standing near. “Well, are you gonna sit down, or what?”

“Okay,” he said and slowly sat next to her. “Got somethin’ to say?”

“Yeah, now where to start,” she said and looked into his eyes. “It’s the reason ah’m not wearin’ gloves.”

“Remy t’ink maybe chere find anot’er guy.”

“What? No, silly,” she said and took his hand. He was wearing his half gloves but she didn’t touch the part that exposed his skin. “There’s no better guy than you.” He had a look of relief on his face. “You see, somethin’ happened this mornin’ or more likely last night. Kitty and ah was havin’ an argument about our powers and we kind of wished we could switch.”

“So, what does dis got to with why you ain’t wearing your gloves.”

“Well, when ah woke up this morning I kinda fell through the floor. Somehow I got her power and she got mine.”

“Are you sayin…’?”

“We switched,” Rogue said as Remy looked stunned.

“And dat means…?” he asked but couldn’t quite find the words to finish the question.

“How ‘bout ah show ya?” She pulled him close to her and slammed her lips down on his. It threw him off guard at first, but he soon took her lead and went with that kiss. It was good to be able to touch her lips and not through the napkin they usually used. “How was that?” she asked as she came up for air.

“Good, for starters,” he said and wrapped his arms round her. “Remy needs more.” They sat there making out on that park bench until Rogue noticed that people were staring and making comments.

She pulled away trying to catch her breath. “Remy, people are lookin’ at us’,” she said but let out a giggle.

“Let ‘em,” he said and held her tight and kissed her again. “So, how long you t’ink dis gonna last?”

“Ah, don’t know,” she said and shrugging her shoulders.

“Den we take advantage of it while we still can,” he said and started to kiss her neck.

“Remy, not here,” she said and squealed.

“Den we go someplace private,” he said and stood up. He held out his hand for her to take, but she sat there with her arms folded.

“Oh, no, Cajun, you promised to take me to this show,” she said and looked up at him defiantly.

“Remy make a promise he keep it,” he said and held out his hand again. This time she took it.

They walked towards the temporary venue that was set up for the show, and Rogue was excited to see this play, only having seen one old movie based on it and reading the play itself. Remy thought that there were better things they could be doing on their night out, but staying and seeing the play would make Rogue happy, and that was the most important thing to him.

They stayed for the performance, with Rogue thoroughly enjoying herself. Remy liked seeing her happy, and a little thing like seeing this play did that. It ended before long and they both stood along with the rest of the audience and clapped.

“That was so good,” Rogue said as they tried to find their way through the crowd. “So much better than the school play ah was in.”

“You were in a school play?” Remy asked giving her a confused look.

“Well, yeah, didn’t ah tell you that.” He shook his head, which prompted Rogue to tell the story. “Kitty and me were both in it, but only because Kitty had a crush on the star.”

“Did you?” Remy asked as she looked up at him.

“Did ah what?” Rogue asked defensively.

“Have a crush on the star,” Remy said finishing his earlier question.

“Hell, no!” she shouted at him, shocked that he would even say that. “Why would you think that?” she asked him as they reached the bike.

“Just wanted to know t’ings you did before we met.”

“Not much of anything, only ever kissed one boy and he ended up in a coma,” she said and her eyes grew sad. “After that ah never thought any guy would want to date me.”

“Why wouldn’t they?” he said, putting his hand on her chin and lifting her head so she was looking him in the eyes. “You’re incredible, more than this ole Cajun deserves.”

“Ah decided you were the one for me, Remy Lebeau,” she said and wrapped her arms around him. “So don’t you let those eyes of yours go wonderin’.”

“De only view I wanna see is right here,” he said and kissed her. They were so wrapped up in each other that Rogue didn’t even hear someone call her name.

“Rogue, thank goodness I found you!”

Rogue tore herself away from Remy long enough to see Kitty’s tear-stained face. “Kitty, what’s wrong?”

“Everything,” she said through her tears. “I told Lance about what happened and he told me to call him when I’m back to normal, and then he just got up and walked out of the restaurant and left me with the check.”

“Oh, Kitty, I’m so sorry,” she said as they sat down on the bench. Rogue put her arm around her friend as she cried. “Don’t worry, we be here for you as long as you need.”

She looked up at Remy who she saw was about to say something, but after that flash in Rogue’s eyes he knew better. So, the night’s plan was now taking a detour.
