Prologue
Penelope "Penny" Stark was born on August 10th, 2001. Her mother was Mary Parker, nee Fitzpatrick, and her biological father was genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, Tony Stark; however, she was briefly raised by her step-father, Richard Parker. Penny didn't get to spend much time with her mother and step-father due to their untimely deaths when she was two. Penny was supposed to go live with her father, but Tony didn't need much convincing when Penny's aunt and uncle, May and Ben, asked that she live with them. Penny was able to live a happy life with her aunt and uncle, but it was short-lived. Ben died in a robbery when Penny was six, and May found herself unable to care for the young Penny Stark. With no other options, Penny was sent to live with her father, Tony Stark.

The first thing Tony noticed was that Penelope was quiet. She never talked to him. She didn't throw tantrums or beg for toys. She was quiet, low-maintenance, even. Tony never needed to worry about her, and so he didn't.
Tony never noticed how brilliant Penelope was; how she constantly received top marks in her classes; how she went by Penny Parker instead of Penelope Stark. He never saw who she was because he never took the time to get to know her.
By the time of his weapons demonstration, Penny had made her way to the back of Tony's mind. She was seven--but she would tell anyone who cared to ask that she was seven and a half, and there was a big difference, not that many people were asking. Penny didn't get a goodbye; instead, she received a note on her door from Pepper.
Only when Tony was missing for two weeks did Penny receive notice of his predicament. She was confused and worried, but what could a child do? Penny didn't have anyone to console her: Pepper was too busy and Penny had not yet made any friends. It was a TV that notified Penny of his return.
As the years went by, the dysfunctional pair had grown accustomed to not involving themselves in the other's life. Penny grew and developed on her own, not that she had much choice: Tony was extremely busy with his Avengers. She made a good life for herself in New York, and that is where her story begins.
