Rick Grimes - Character Insight and breakdown
By far the hardest character to write. He was early season Rick for so long and even when he got his memories trying to put him in character was hard.
I was trying to guess the type of person he’d be after the time jump in the show. So a lot of it was Ooc? His relationships with people weren’t what drove his character and that's where I thrive when I write.
Rick is our main character in the show so not being the main guy in our story was a bit weird as well. I wanted to heavily showcase his relationships with people but when have we ever seen Rick taking a break?
So I used it, Rick wanted so badly to step down from the leader, but in the end, he knew it was him. It was always him. Even without his memories people still looked to him, for his strategy, for the way he made a room glow with courage. He was a leader from the day he woke up from that coma and he didn’t even know it.
Daryl had to pull from Rick, to get into his shoes so many times just to keep his head above water through all this. He needed his brother, even just a glimpse of him was enough.
It was fitting that Rick was one of the last few to get his memories, because he never needed them.
