Chapter 9
1750 shows up on the screen, it switches to a heavily pregnant Agatha moving through the woods before stopping at a tree and slicing a lemon to bite down on
Everybody's eyebrows shot up "this must be when she has her son Nicholas Scratch" Clint says "you mean the son she traded for the Darkhold?" Sam asks before having to duck from a spell sent at him by Clea "I thought I made myself clear about that. She couldn't have done it without magic users noticing, so don't ever mention that again" Clea says dangerously
Agatha leaning against the tree and notices Rio in the distance "if you do this I will hate you forever" Agatha says as Rio approaches and begs her to let the baby live "I can only offer time" Rio says "how much time?" Agatha asks
Clea's eyes widened "that's what she meant by special treatment" "what do you mean?" Wing asks "Rio says that Agatha had special treatment, I guess that special treatment is letting her son live" Cleas says
Agatha holds baby Nicholas in her arms "I said no incantation. I cast no spell, I made you from scratch" she says
"I wonder who Nicholas's father is" Clint says "either Rio or she duped a man into sleeping with her" Carol says "can't have been Rio, as Death she can only take life not make it, she can extend life as shown. But her brother Life can make life, I don't think he would create a child for her though, so Agatha obviously slept with someone then" Clea says
Agatha is walking through the woods with Nicholas in a swing across her body crying, they come across a coven of forest witches. Agatha stops outside the coven's protective boundary "is the little one well?" One of the witches asks, Agatha says they haven't eaten in days the witch drops the protection spell allowing Agatha into the camp where she promptly takes their magic and kills them
Wanda crossed her arms and scoffed "even with a child she's still the same old witch killer" she grumbled, Clea started grinding her teeth as Wanda's words
Agatha walks away asking if Nicholas liked it as he giggled
"Babies laugh at the most stupid things" Clint says
Six years go by and Nicholas is sitting in the town square of a village when he is approached by a witch asking if he has kin nearby, Nicholas grabs one of the bells belonging to the witch and runs off with the witch and her coven chasing him. Agatha is outside sweeping when Nicholas runs up "your child stole from us" the witch says "is that true boy, do you shame your mother?" Agatha asks taking the bell of Nicholas and leads the coven inside while Nicholas tends to the goat outside, Agatha kills the coven.
Wanda growls "she uses her son as bait" Clea rolled her eyes "you might want to roll your eyes a little louder, don't think she heard" Stephen whispered "she is really annoying me with all her outbursts" Clea whispered back, Stephen offered her a smile
Agatha and Nicholas are walking "why do you kill witches?" He asks Agatha says it's to survive "can't we live with the witches and survive with them?" He asks Agatha tells him no "because they will try to kill us" she tells him to get used to the feeling if he wants to survive
"He's just a little boy and he knows more about Death then anyone should at his age" Clint says "I knew about Death when I was his age" Natasha says "as did I" Clea said ij agreement
Nicholas starts humming a song with a recognisable tune "I walk, walk, walk the road, I walk the windy road" he sings Agatha asks if he walks the road alone and they sing it together "I walk, walk, walk the road, I walk the windy road. Wherever it may bend, I'll be there at the end"
Everyone sat in silence "that's the exact same tune as the Ballad of the Witches' Road" Kate says "they must've created the song" Bruce says "maybe the song isn't needed and the Witches' Road will appear when there is a coven in need of it and the Ballad is used as a medium" Clea says
Agatha and Nicholas are in the woods when Nicholas complains of being hungry "what's that you want a lesson you say?" Agatha asks "can't you just make me food?" Nicholas asks "I cannot" "use your purple" Nicholas whispers "my what?" Agatha whispers back "your purple" Agatha uses her magic to blow up dirt and begins to explain that she can cast illusions, control a feeble mind and move things "but I cannot heal you or divine when she'll be back for you" Agatha says "when who will be back for me?" Nicholas asks but doesn't get answer
Clea smiles "she truly loves her son" "she uses him to lure witches to their deaths" Wanda spat out. Clea clenched her teeth "you created your twins through grief using your magic and then vanished them. With one going into the body of a dead teenager forcing him to endure three years of not knowing who he was and your other son was in the Void for three years aware of what was going on until his twin helped him into a body. All the while you had the Darkhold and was chasing an innocent girl through the Multiverse to try and steal her powers and in the process killed anyone who stood against you" Clea says "and Agatha is the bad guy, your just as bad if not worse" Wanda glared at her with red eyes "oh isn't that cute, Wanda's trying to intimidate Clea" Loki says loving what was going on, Clea scoffed "you're as intimidating as a newborn kitten Wanda. I'm not afraid of you" she says turning back to the screen she heard Wanda growl but ignored it
A montage of Agatha and Nicholas being together while coming up with words for the song
"Your right they just made up the song" Sam says "so is the Witches' Road real?" America asks "according to the book I read yes" Stephen says
Nicholas is in a tavern singing the Ballad and Agatha gives him a coin when he is done acting like she doesn't know him, a witch walks over "tell me wherever did you come by such a curious song?" The witch asks "my mother needs me home" Nicholas says before running out of the tavern, Agatha runs after him a moment later
"I wonder if Agatha will be upset with him over that" Sam says nobody gave him answer
Agatha and Nicholas are at their camp "Mother you can kill more witches tomorrow" Nicholas says, Agatha walks over to him and smiles as they begin singing the song
Clint smiled remembering the small moments with his three children
Nicholas wakes up in the middle of the night and sees Rio holding a torch with green flames
Everyone felt a sinking feeling in their stomachs at the sight of Rio "six years is not a lot of time" Clea says, Tony looks at her confused "six years is a long time" he says "yeah for you humans, who are short lived but for those of us who are long lived" Clea says indicating to herself, then to Thor and Loki "six years is a blink of an eye right?" Thor and Loki nodded in agreement "and Agatha I'm guessing was born around mid 1600s and by that point she would hundred years old, so yeah not a lot of time" Thor says
Rio indicates for Nicholas to come with her, he stands up but she indicates to Agatha and he gives her two kisses and walks hand in hand with Rio
"Rio didn't even let Agatha say goodbye" Kamala says aghast
Agatha wakes up the next day and discovers that Nicky is dead "no I want more time, I want more time" she wails
Wanda couldn't help the tears escape her eyes as everybody wiped their eyes, she also couldn't help the sympathy and empathy for Agatha to flood her body
Agatha stands before Nicholas's grave singing the song they made together, she places a lock of his hair in her brooch "you must know the way then" a voice says "how dare you" Agatha says with hostility, the young witch is startled
Clea hissed "that young witch can clearly see that Agatha is standing over a grave and singing about burying a child. She could've waited" Clint couldn't help but agree
"The way to what?" Agatha asks "the Witches Road" the witch says surprising Agatha, the witch continues that the Road offers a prize worthy of the peril and that she is in need "could you show me the way? "You enquire in good faith so I'll respond, of course I'll show you the way to the Road" Agatha says clipping her brooch on, Agatha tells her that they must gather a coven. The song could be heard as Agatha leads a coven into the woods where they sing, the door doesn't appear and she insults them enough into attacking her where she takes their magic
"So I'm guessing that the Road doesn't exist" America says "but the book, the book tells of witches who survived it in the past" Stephen says before a piece of paper appears in his hand "the book was written by Agatha as a way to sell the story of the Witches' Road along with several other books" he read before screwing the paper up angrily
The screen shows Agatha throughout the years tricking witches with the song and stealing their magic all the way up to the coven in her basement where she begins to insult them and Sharon points at the door, Agatha is visibly shocked and confused as she opens the door. Billy runs down the stairs followed by everyone and a smirk appears on her face when she realises who he is
"Billy created the Witches' Road?" Vision asks "yep your son created a whole magical dimension, he is just as powerful as you Wanda, if not more powerful" Clea says Wanda ignored her focusing on the pride of her son creating the Witches' Road
Billy is in his room "it was me" he says, he turns around when he hears cackling "boo" Agatha says now a ghost appears in his room, Billy screams
"Why is Agatha a ghost?" Peter asks "unfinished business probably" Wong says
"I saw you die" Billy says "yeah, now I'm a ghost. Can you dig it?" Agatha says she tells him that she didn't sacrifice herself but took a calculated risk. Billy asks if he made the Road "unlike your mother, sorry unlike Wanda you actually did something interesting with your power" Agatha says
Wanda frowns "I do interesting things" she says "you took over a town, he made a story into reality so that's ten times more interesting" Steve says, Wanda huffs and crosses her arms
Billy starts panicking saying that he was a murderer "I mean Alice" Agatha tells him that she killed Alice, "Lilia in the tower" "that was her choice" "Mrs Davis" "who?"
Loki scoffed "boy really needs to get control of himself" he muttered
Billy says Sharon didn't even belong on the Road "yes the gardening lady" Agatha says "this is just one of your tricks" Billy says Agatha tells him that the Ballad was the trick "it was just a con to lure gullible witches, it never meant anything it never did" Agatha explains, she tells him that she was going to kill them all in her basement on day one and that he actually saved a life if he did the math, cut to outside Westview where Jen is dragging herself out of the ground before flying off
"So that's where she went, I was wondering where she was" Carol says
Agatha tells him to get used to the feeling if he wants to be a witch "I will never get used to this feeling" Billy says
Wanda nodded her head "good for him"
Billy drives back to Agatha's house and enters the basement where the door to the Road is glowing "back to the scene of the crime?" Agatha asks laying across the washing machine. Billy ignores her and searches the shelves while Agatha says he has something of hers
"Her brooch" Natasha says "it's the only thing she cares about"
Billy grabs a box and places down black candles and draws a pentagram "looks like analogue magic" Agatha says, Billy pulls out his spell book and Agatha's brooch. He starts saying a spell "you think you can banish me with a spell and a personal item?" Agatha asks Billy tells her to go into the light or into Rio's toxic embrace, he continues the spells and Agatha begins to flicker "five seconds ago you were all bent out of shape about killing witches" Agatha says trying to grab her brooch, Billy says that Agatha is already dead "why are you still here? Why won't you go?" Billy asks "because I can't face him" Agatha says knocking the brooch out of Billy's hand stopping the spell
Wanda couldn't help but flinch at that "damn" Clint says
Agatha picks up her brooch and tells Billy that she's a quick study "I'm sure he'll forgive you for whatever you did" Billy says "you know when you say things like that you remind me of him" Agatha says "we could make a good team" "spirit as my guide" Billy says reciting the song "I tend to kill my coven members" Agatha says Billy says that he does to. Billy uses his power to close the door to the Road inscribing Lilia, Alice and Sharon's names, the basement door opens "let's go find Tommy" Agatha says
Wanda sighed as Vision released his grip on the chairs arms "so that's that apparently" Loki says "I'd rather he wasn't around Agatha" Wanda groused "she's the only magical person Billy can turn to Wanda" Vision says "I know, still don't like it" Wanda says "my jaw hurts" Clea says moving her jaw around "must be from all the teeth clenching and grinding you did" Stephen says cheekily getting a unimpressed look "I wonder what we are going to see next" America says "I'm hoping for no magic or multiversal bullshit" Clint says "or anything that gives us migraines" Tony says with Bruce and Peter nodding in agreement
