What if it happened to you on a different day?
The boy couldn’t hold back the sob , almost collapsing to the ground as he held a hand against his chest , the ache in his heart so strong.

Ethan had a normal day , get up early , very early , go to the campus coffee shop , go to English and finally go to his 2 hour long econ lesson.
He’d woken up that morning disorientated and exhausted , he also didn’t expect to wake up wrapped up in his roommates arms but that was something future Ethan could worry about.
He climbed out from under the covers , coming from the warmth of the blankets , and arms , he’d been wrapped in to the harsh coldness of the dorm. Ethan shivered as his feet patted down on the icy floors , before pulling on some of his fluffiest socks and getting dressed for the day.
The young man stood in the kitchen for almost 20 minutes trying to decide if he should buy coffee , like he’d been doing a lot recently , or drink some of the gross stuff in the house. He decided to swerve from his usual routine and make some coffee from home , unfortunately the loud noises of the machine woke up his roomie.
Chad slowly walked into the kitchen , leaning against the doorway , a blanket still wrapped around his shoulders keeping him from the cold , “you’re up early Eth?” A small smile was planted on the boys face as he watched the smaller of the two tiredly rush around the kitchen.
“Hmm? Oh yeah I have some classes early today” he shrugged , yawning , rubbing the sleep from his eyes constantly , he let a small pitiful sigh , “sorry for waking you with all the noise , just thought it’d save me some money.”
Chad frowned at him , walking over and wrapping his arms around him from behind , “hey , it’s fine , I would’ve woken pretty soon anyway , got an exam later” he gave a small , still slightly tired , smile to Ethan , placing his chin against his head.
Ethan simply grinned , a small blush on his cheeks at the thought that Chad was touching him. He brushed those thoughts to the back of his head , getting his to-go cup of coffee ready , before heading towards the door.
Chad followed swiftly behind , “I’ll see you after econ okay?” Ethan smiled at him , the door already half way open and before his brain could even process what he was doing he placed a small chaste kiss on chad’s lips , he froze for a second realising what he’d done , before speeding out of there , giving chad absolutely no Chance to come after him , no chance for the boy to gain any explanation of what had happened.
Ethan was sat in English , paying absolutely no attention to what was going on , his mind was racing , what had he been thinking kissing Chad , his crush , his best friend , he wouldn’t be surprised if Chad never spoke to him again. He was so deep in thought that he hadn’t realised his class had ended , or that the teacher was calling his name.
“Mr Landry?” Ethan whipped his head up , trying to figure out who was talking to him , that’s when he finally realised the whole classroom was empty , he instantly jumped up from his seat “oh I’m sorry , I didn’t realised the class was finished,” he quickly packed up his bag and rushed towards the door , however not before the teacher could grab his arm.
The man had a concerned look on his face , “I noticed you weren’t really with us today , are you feeling okay?” Ethan stared at him , and simply shrugged “sorry I have to get to econ.” He pulled his arm from the man’s grasp and made his way to econ , which was unfortunate on the opposite side of the school from English.
He arrived at the class , only having 1 minute to spare , and quickly sat down , he’d obviously caught some stares as he was usually the earliest to econ , he was too busy doubting his every pop move , wondering if today would be the day he’d lose all his friends.
Econ went extremely slowly , he yet again paid no attention and just sat there pretending to, as to not in trouble , after a while a commotion started in the classroom , he was deeply confused “everyone calm down , you all can go home early.” Ethan blinked , I mean at least now he could go to the carpenters apartment and hang out with his friends now?
When he arrived he was confused to see ambulances and police cars , he slipped under the yellow tape , “QUINN?? CHAD??” there were some police officers that took notice of him and Chad rushed over , “he’s with us” they instantly released him , and Chad looked at him concerned and slightly scared too , “where’s Quinn ?”
Chads eye flicked towards a body bag being pulled from the apartment before he could stop himself and Ethan instantly knew what had happened.
“Chad..please tell me that I’m jumping to conclusions , please tell me that my sister is just in a ambulance getting fixed up..” Ethan’s voice wavered as his eyes filled with tears , he prayed that every thought running through his head was false.
Chad pulled him into a tight hug , “no Chad..no please tell me I’m wrong” he let out a sob , when he got no reply he begun sobbing harder , “I should have been there , if I had been there..” he hiccuped, Chad shushed him , “you couldn’t have done anything to stop ghostface , it’s okay Eth.”
Ethan looked up at Chad , sniffling and wiping his eyes , Chad cupped his hands round his face and gave him a small sad smile , “you’ll be okay Eth , just don’t think about it okay?” He just hugged Ethan closer , and they just stood there for a while.
