It was dark, and they could feel their heart racing.
The adrenaline after a nightmare made everything confusing, made them alert to every movement near them without knowing where they were.
When they started coming to, they felt warmth around their body and heard a soothing voice.
“It’s okay, you’re safe.” They felt their heart calm down.
Taking a deep breath, they recognized the familiar scent, and after blinking a few times, they realized they were in their room, on the floor, with Morph holding them, gently rubbing their back and speaking softly.
“Morph…”
“There you are.” Morph slowly moved back a bit, keeping their hands on Logan’s arms.
Though it was dark, Logan could see them clearly; they were smiling… but then Logan noticed Morph had several pink marks on their arms.
“I hurt you…” they felt a tightness in their chest, struggling to breathe.
“Oh, the scratches? Don’t worry; you’ve scratched me harder during sex…” Morph replied, looking at their arms.
“Don’t joke! I could’ve hurt you! What if I’d unsheathed my claws?!”
“I can defend myself if I need to, Logan,” Morph said in a serious tone.
“You didn’t defend against those,” Logan said, pointing at the marks on their arms.
“Because you were scared! I needed to calm you, not fight you…” Morph sighed before standing up and giving Logan a tired smile, probably from being woken up in the middle of the night, and offered a hand. “Can we go to bed and get back to sleep?”
“I need some air…” Logan stood up quickly and left the room, not caring that he was barefoot and shirtless.
“Logan! Logan, come back!” Morph called, but it was no use.
Morph guessed Logan might need a moment alone, so they sat on the bed to wait for him but ended up falling back asleep after quite some time. When they woke up, they were still alone in the bed.
They thought Logan might be having breakfast, but when they entered the kitchen, he was the only one missing.
“Has anyone seen Wolverine?” they asked.
“Don’t you know where he is?” Scott asked.
“He had a nightmare last night and ran out… I thought he’d come back to bed after a while, but…”
“He’s outside,” Jean said.
“You can sense him with your powers?” Morph asked.
“No, I’m watching him from the window.”
Morph went outside to find Wolverine sitting against one of the school walls.
“Hi…” Logan had probably sensed them already, so they sat down beside him.
“You didn’t come back last night… I was worried, Logan.”
“You know I heal easily if I get hurt…”
“Those aren’t the kinds of wounds I’m worried about.” Morph placed a hand over Logan’s chest, near his heart.
Logan touched their hand softly. “You don’t know how much I’d hate to hurt you.”
“I know, but I don’t like it when you get all…” Morph transformed into Logan and imitated his voice. “I’m sooo miserableeee, I don’t deserve anyone’s love because I hurt everyone who gets close to me. It’s better if I keep everyone away and stay alone.”
Morph turned back into themselves and looked down at the ground, avoiding Logan’s gaze.
“Are you worried I’m going to break up with you?” Logan asked softly.
Morph looked back at him. “I… yes, a little. I mean, you didn’t even like me when we started dating, but I don’t want to sound selfish talking about my insecurities when you’re dealing with much bigger issues.”
“Sydney…” Logan leaned in to place his hand on their cheek. “Your insecurities and worries are important; you’re not selfish for telling your partner what concerns you, and I’m definitely not going to break up with you.”
Logan rested their foreheads together for a few seconds before pulling back.
“I just… sometimes I forget I don’t have to get through things alone anymore.”
“If you need someone to remind you…” Morph leaned their shoulder against Logan’s. “I and the team will always be here.”
They sat in silence for a moment, side by side, until Morph spoke again.
“By the way, I wasn’t joking.” Logan looked at them, confused. “When I said you scratch me harder during sex. I hadn’t said anything before because I know it’s hard to hold back when you’re with someone as sexy as me…”
“Stop…” Logan said, trying not to laugh.
“What? Am I not letting you be melancholic?” Morph teased before standing up and extending a hand to Logan. “Shall we go have breakfast? I’m starving…”
Logan smiled And I take their hand to stand up “Yeah.”
