Summary
Bobby decides to take John trick-or-treating for the first time.
Note
This is super rushed and horribly written because I wanted to upload it on Halloween day but I started writing at 9pm on October 31st so I only had a few hours and I’m slow writer.

John pulls the zipper up on his onesie, brining it up snug around his neck. Bobby had asked if he wanted to be SharkBoy and LavaGirl with him since he knew how much John loves sharks. And well Bobby being LavaGirl is funny since his mutation is ice. Even though John had never been trick-or-treating, or has even dressed up, he agreed. But the thing is he didn’t really know who SharkBoy and LavaGirl was and instead of looking dumb and asking he took his best guess. And well his best guess was buying a full body shark onesie..

There was a knock on the door before he heard Bobby call out; “you dressed”? He called back, giving Bobby permission to walk in. Pyro sat on the edge of his bed as he slid his black vans on, they didn’t exactly match his outfit but he didn’t care. He wasn’t even particularly excited about going out especially in this outfit, it felt stupid to him. He didn’t count on having any fun and even thought about ditching on Bobby. But he could tell his partner was really thrilled to go out with him. So he decided against it, to just push through the night.

“so how do I look” John asked as Bobby walked in. He stood up and put his arms out like he was presenting himself. That’s when Bobby realized he should’ve explained who SharkBoy was, because whatever John had on was not right. He couldn’t deny his boyfriend looked cute though. Bobby let a little smile peek through, mostly trying to hold back a laugh because John getting it wrong was funny. “What”? Pyro asked with a confused expression painted on his face.

“Nothing, you just..” he stopped speaking for a second, “you look adorable” Bobby continued with a joking tone as he didn’t wanna seem so sappy. John let out a scuff as he rolled his eyes; “shut up.. Is that your outfit”? Bobby was wearing a red almost pink looking full body suit, the darker red was more like hard leather though and it covered his chest, stomach, thighs and back. There was also gold lines covering it, with a black and gold belt. “Yeah it’s the best I could do, to you know make it look like lava” Bobby tried playing it off like it’s supposed to be lava. When it’s supposed to be after the character.

They headed out not long after, the younger students went with teachers but the older ones got permission to go out on their own. While most of them went to parties Bobby wanted to actually take John trick-or-treating since he had never been. Pyro’s parents weren’t the best, they never let him do the things other kids did. So Bobby made it his mission to finally let him have his childhood even if he isn’t a kid anymore. He just wants him to be happy.

“So what are we supposed to do” John asked as he took a look around at the kids who scattered the neighborhood. There was a whole lot of people and Pyro wasn’t necessarily a fan of that, kind of makes him glad his parents never let him do these things. “You go up to the doors, knock on them and they give you candy” Bobby explained the best he could. Which explaining it made it sound insane how you go up to strangers doors and get candy, and John pointed that out. “That sounds uncomfortably creepy” his face made a disgusted expression as he spoke.

“Yeah well it’s fun, trust me”. Bobby nudged his shoulder into the other boys as he gave him a little smile. But John just pulled away making his way off the side walk where a tall bush stood; “you know what’s more fun” he dragged his voice out in a teasing tone, as he crouched behind the bush and pulled his hood up over his head. The hood was the head of a shark, eyes, teeth, fins and all. Bobby didn’t have the heart to tell him that he didn’t look scary at all, more like adorable. He just stood to the side and let him have his fun.

He watched as a group of a couple teenagers started walking up and right before they passed the bush, John jumped out. Making a loud “boo” as he leaped out. A couple of the kids screamed and stumbled back which made a proud smile appear across Pyro’s face. And that’s when it started, they’d go up to a couple houses but mostly it was John trying to scare the shit out of people. And honestly most of the time it didn’t work, he didn’t exactly look scary in the onesie. But it made it was fun to him and made Bobby smile stupidly and to John that’s all that mattered. Having fun and making his boy happy.

Bobby had stopped to tie his shoe while John went on ahead to the next house, as he walked up to the door there was a table and a bowl. The sign above it said “take one”, and John being the rebellious person he is, he grabbed the whole bowl and just walked away. As he came up to Bobby he gave him a confused look; “why do you have a whole bowl”? John just grinned and laughed a little. He was about to pour the whole thing in his bag until Bobby shot his hand out to stop him; “you can’t just take the whole thing, go put it back” He rose his voice a little to sound stern. John let his lip drop like he was pouting, and his eyes were almost like puppy eyes. “Now” Bobby spoke again.

John let out a groan as he rolled his eyes and turned back towards the house; “this is supposed to be fun” he complained. Bobby laughed a little at the boys pouting and followed behind him to make sure he actually put it away. “Come on let’s go to the next house” Bobby intertwined his fingers in John to pull him along. When their relationship first started it was a secret but it’s been a little over a year now, and everyone slowly found out. So they don’t try to hide it anymore, no more holding hands and kissing behind closed doors. They do it whenever and wherever they want with no shame.

The next house was covered in a lot more decorations then the other homes, a lot of them were blow up ones. And then some projecting light. They made their way up the pathway to the front door as a animatronic popped out from them walking near it. John had been fiddling with his lighter all day, flicking it opened and turning it on as always. So when the thing jumped out the flame that was once small igniting from lighter jumped to Pyro’s hand and then set the whole prop up in flames. Luckily Bobby was quick to react, his hand coming up to smother the fire out with ice. “Dammint John you can’t just set things on fire you know this” he spit out loudly as panic took over. If some had seen them use their powers they definitely would not be allowed to go somewhere without supervision again.

John put his hands up in defense; “it was muscle memory, it scared me” he defended himself which just made the other boy sigh. Bobby grabbed his hand and dragged him away from the house before someone noticed the burnt decoration that was also covered in a thin layer of ice. “Please just put the lighter away for a little bit” He asked as they crossed the street. John obeyed slipping it in his pocket. That was another amazing thing about the onesie, it had pockets. “Can we go back to the school now”? John groaned. It wasn’t that late but he was getting tired of walking, and this was getting boring. “Just a few more houses then we can” Bobby said.

Pyro agreed on it even though he didn’t want to. They went to a few more houses until at some point John slipped away without Bobby noticing. He noticed a group of loud teenagers across the street and decided to get one last scare in. He crouched behind a car as he heard them walking out, but right when he jumped out it was a little girl maybe 6 standing there. She didn’t make a noise, they both stood there eyes wide until she started bawling. John was never good with kids, and he didn’t mean to scare her so he didn’t know what to do. Just stood there until she started getting louder, and the only thing he could think of was to quickly walk away. Which definitely didn’t look suspicious at all.

“We gotta go” Pyro said trying to act casual as he found his way to Bobby again. He gave John a confused look, his eyebrows burrowing. But before he could say anything John had grabbed his hand and started pulling him along, away from the little girl. Bobby looked back to notice the kid crying, two adults around her trying to sooth her. “John why is there a kid crying? What did you do”? His voice sounded concerned. “She started it” is all John said. Of course Bobby wasn’t dumb, he knew he did something but he didn’t try to force anything out of Pyro. Instead he just followed him back to where everyone was supposed to meet up to go back to the school.

They sat at the curb next to the vehicles as they waited. “Did you have fun”? Bobby asked leaning towards the other boy. John titled his head towards him and gave him a little smile; “yeah, thank you” his tone sounded soft, which was very rare. He leaned into Bobby a bit closer as he brought his hand up, placing his palm against the back of his neck to pull him in. Their lips met forming into a soft kiss. John smiled against the other boys lips which made Bobby smile. It’s the best feeling to feel someone’s smile against your lips. It was John’s favorite feeling, but only when it was Bobby’s smile. His boys smile.
