spitting up the oxygen
Standing a few buildings away from the bridge, the Phantom and the Winter Soldier quietly awaited their signal.
The phantom was dressed in his all black suit and his black mask that was covering the bottom half of his face, his short hair was slightly brushing onto his face with how windy it was.
Dorian stood contemplating how this mission had the potential to shake everything his mother taught him, or it could be his last chance to step away and disappear. Dorian had often considered leaving Hydra during missions, understanding it wouldn't be easy with the trackers in his veins.
There were at least three trackers in him that he knew of and who knows how many more that he isn’t aware of.
But it wasn't about how he could escape, but if he even could. Despite it sounding wrong, Hydra was all Dorian had, and the Winter Soldier was his only reliable companion, brainwashed or not.
Dorian’s thoughts were quickly interrupted by a car being thrown across the bridge and an explosion causing a man to fly off the bridge and crash into a bus, which crashed into another bus.
Ouch.
A red head started shooting at Barnes, Romanoff. Barnes shot back with his machine gun; he could handle her just fine. Dorian knew that. But if Romanoff was here, then that means the guy who just crashed into the bus was Steve Rogers. And Dorian would do anything to avoid him until he can't anymore.
So as Romanoff started running into the city, Dorian was charging towards her as he unhooked the clasps that kept his guns safely hooked to his belt.
Without a thought, Dorian pulled the trigger and shot at her twice, she quickly dodged the bullets as she hid behind a car on the road until the Winter Soldier showed up on top of a different car with his gun pointed straight at her.
And right when the Winter Soldier showed up, the great Captain America did too.
He immediately ran up to Barnes and used his shield to defend himself against the punch he was about to receive. The Winter Soldier kicked him off the car and back onto the road where he shot at him with his machine gun.
And although he defended himself against the bullets with his shield, his back was completely vulnerable.
The Phantom got up from where he was stood watching the fight and pulled a dagger he kept latched to his arm out. As he ran up to Rogers, he made sure to make as little sound as he could before digging the dagger into his back and dragging it down. It made a huge scar that started from his left shoulder all the way to his hip.
Just as he was about to pull his dagger out, Rogers punched him out of the way but managed to keep his shield up to protect him from the Winter Soldier's bullets.
Dorian was shoved into a van where he harshly slammed his head; his eyes were turning blurry, and he could barely see what was happening when something hard hit the van. It was Captain America's shield.
Barnes and the Captain were now in hand-to-hand combat, Barnes had the upper hand. Just one final blow, and America's hero would be dead.
Maybe Dorian got a little too excited because just as Steve was shoved onto the same van Dorian was slammed into, he pulled out his shield while the Winter Soldier was down.
Dorian made it a point to shove his foot into the Captain's stomach. Although he was most likely concussed and probably had no hope in getting up anytime soon, he still had a mission to fulfill.
"Stay down, kid!" Steve yelled before turning back to face Barnes.
kid? kid. you’ve gotta be kidding me. who does this guy think he is?
While Dorian was deep in thought, the Soldier and the Captain carried on with their fight.
Dorian propped himself up with his left arm and slowly pushed himself to the side of the van; this way, he could see what was happening.
It was a good thing that he did because just as he got a sight of the two of them, Barnes’s mask fell right off.
“Bucky?” Steve said, stunned.
The Winter Soldier had a confused look on his face. “Who the hell is Bucky?” he said with his gun aimed right at him.
Just then, a man with wings appeared out of nowhere and pushed Barnes out of the way.
An explosion was fired.
Dorian had passed out, the Winter Soldier was gone.
Days must have passed when Dorian finally awoke, his eyes were still blurry, and the light above him was as bright as the sun.
He moved to rub the blurriness out of his eyes, but his hand was pulled back. He looked down to see a handcuff on his wrist.
“That’s just a precaution.” a voice said.
Dorian looked up to see the one and only Nick fury standing by the door.
It looked like he was in a hospital room, but the view from the window told him that the building was too high for it to be a hospital room.
It must’ve looked like Dorian was going to reply back to fury because he stayed silent as if expecting a response.
The silence was deafening, even at Hydra, Dorian could count on the sound of gunshots or even footsteps. It was uncomfortable being stared down by a man he didn’t even want to look at.
This wasn’t the first time dorian had encountered Nick fury, he had met the man back in 1995 when he still had both his eyes.
The uncomfortable silence was interrupted by the sound of someone walking into the room.
“Oh good! Sleeping Beauty’s up!”
Dorian blinked. He didn’t get the reference, so that line just sounded weird.
“Tony Stark” the man said as he put his hand out to shake. Dorian looked at the cuffs, then back at Tony with a raised brow. “Right, cuffs. Well, anyways, I told you my name, so how about you tell me yours?”
This is going to be one long, sucky day.
Dorian decided that if he was going to be locked up and stuck with a bunch of egotistical wanna be hero’s, he wasn’t going to listen. so he laid back into the pillow and closed his eyes.
Might as well nap.
Tony stood there with a pretty pissed off look on his face. “no yeah fine! just go back to sleeping.” he muttered as he sat down on the edge of the bed.
Fury finally walked up to the bed and started talking “you were out for a while, you’ve missed a lot.” he said gently, well as gentle as he could. “hydra is gone.”
Dorian’s eyes burst open as he faced the director of shield. “what.” he muttered
“guess he’s not mute” tony frowned
“I said hydra is gone. Every hydra file was leaked and Every one of their soldiers were arrested.”
Dorian didn’t know how to feel. Was barnes captured too? what did this mean for him, what was he meant to do now?
“if the files were leaked, then that means you already know my name.”
Fury let out a laugh as he spoke “oh trust me kiddo, we know a lot more than that.”
“I asked just to be nice.” tony smiled. “and to see if you’d lie or not”
Dorian sat there questioning his very existence before he decided to ask, “Where’s the Winter Soldier?” He slightly hesitated before speaking again, “And if you know who I am, then how come the ‘all-mighty’ Captain isn’t here?”
Tony stifled a laugh as he sensed an attitude directed towards that last question.
“The Winter Soldier is currently missing, and your father decided it was better if he gave you some space” Fury answered after giving Tony a pointed look.
The word 'father' set something off in him. They might be biologically related, but other than that, Steve Rogers and Dorian Carter have nothing in common.
“He’s not my father.”
Stark and Fury shared a look.
“Okay then, you should rest up because you’re going to be under investigation for a while after this” Tony said as he and Fury both left.
Dorian sat in the bed and stared at the wall, he hadn’t even grasped the fact that he had just met Tony Stark. Howard Stark's son. His uncle Howard.
He let those thoughts wash away as he broke off the cuffs that held his wrists. They weren’t powered cuffs, which is stupid considering he’s quite literally a powered being.
Dorian leaned back against his pillow to look out the window between the room he was imprisoned in and the rest of the building. Two guards stood there with guns in their hands, they were too lost in their conversations to pay attention to Dorian’s plotting.
Dorian slowly got out of bed and quickly groaned as his body ached, his rib was most definitely not healed yet.
He slowly reached the window separating him from the real world and unlatched it, he was seven floors high. He’s jumped further, this was nothing compared to the escapes and risks Hydra made him take.
He quickly grabbed his belongings from where they were sat on a chair; his guns and daggers were missing, but his clothes and boots were there.
He put on his pants and boots and decided to keep the overgrown white shirt he had on. He made sure to securely place his things on him before climbing out the window.
He stood out on that ledge and looked down to see what his crash sight looked like. There were some parked cars on the street and a few people passing by, but nothing too alarming. He knew it would hurt to jump out of the window with a broken rib, but he had to find Barnes, and this was his only way out.
So, he jumped.
