Minor Modifications
Unsurprisingly, Peter made it to the fire station just as night began to fall.
He crawled through the window again, before remembering he had thought about knocking the shards out just to be cautious.
Creeping closer up to the window, his feet braced flat on the wall, before he faintly used some of his strength to snap the stray shards from the window frame. Letting them go, Peter watched as they fell outside the window and shattered further on the ground below.
Lol. Kind of like his heart when he realised he could never go home earlier, haha.
He hopped off the wall, picking up the bag and pulling one of the cheeseburgers out, taking a bite.
Pushing open the door to the break room, Peter threw the bag onto the table as gently as he could manage. He licked burger sauce from his fingers before heading towards the table. Slowly picking up the disc that held the Iron Spider suit, he sat in a chair and activated it so the suit formed flat on the table.
Now that Peter really looks at the suit, it's not as bashed up as he expected it to be.
Pushing away from the table, Peter grabs onto the door of the cupboard that holds what he needs and swings it open, yanking the toolkit he'd bought out of it.
As he begins to sort through the parts he dumpster dived, Peter takes out yet another cheeseburger and begins to chow down on it absentmindedly. He's been practically starving himself the past few days, which is not good for his enhanced metabolism. His wrists are already thinning.
Getting to work on the suit after so long is like a breath of fresh air, and Peter's sad it ends so soon. The repairs he made were only minor.
Sighing, the boy reaches into the bag, pulls out the slightly broken router and decides to work on connecting Karen to this ancient, subpar 2012 WiFi.
Sounds of unscrewing and cheap plastic casing being taken off to access the insides of the router are all that fill the air inside the break room for a good minute.
Peter doesn't even realise he's begun to hum AC/DC.
It fills the soul-crushing silence, so...
Whatever.
After a while of fiddling, Peter grabs onto the mask of his suit and slaps it onto his face.
"Karen? You there?" The words are hesitant.
"Always, Peter," the AI's voice greets him almost warmly. "How can I assist you?"
Grinning, Peter reaches over towards the repaired router and switches it on.
"Can you connect to this router, please, Karen?" He asks, trying his hardest not to get his hopes up.
There's a moment's silence.
"It would appear I have connected to the internet, Peter," Karen hums. "Is that all?"
Relief. The pure relief at finally somewhat being connected to the internet is overwhelming. So he tests it out.
"Um... What year does, uh, Google say that... Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope came out?" He asks tentatively, twisting the fabric of his shirt between his fingers nervously.
"Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope came out in 1977," Karen fulfilled the request, "Is that all?"
Exhaling, Peter nods, though Karen can't exactly see it. "Yeah. You're a star, Kare-Bear."
"Happy to be of assistance." Karen says, before Peter takes the mask off and sits there for a minute.
With Karen connected to the internet, he should be able to better keep up with news and the Avengers... Once they form, at least.
But honestly? Right now?
All Peter wants to do is sleep.
So he does.
Crawling towards the sunken couch, Peter can't even be bothered to take off the ratty clothes or brush his teeth before he's flopped onto the less-than-plush fabric.
And then he's out like a light.
