Note
Late Thanksgiving Special because I'm not from the US and I forgot this existed and I came up with this idea like two days before Thanksgiving

Logan was in the kitchen when he saw Jean walk in carrying a lot of shopping bags. He could tell (and smell) that they were mostly filled with things to cook

“Need help, Jenny?”

“No, thanks, I can handle it,” she replied with a smile before using her powers to lift the bags and set them on the table.

“Why so much stuff? What’s the occasion?”

“It’s Thanksgiving,” Jean said, amused.

“Oh, right.”

“Don’t tell me you forgot again?” came Morph’s voice as they walked into the kitchen. “You’ve been in this country longer than anyone; you should remember by now.”

Logan just shrugged with a disinterested gesture.

“Do you already know what you’re going to be thankful for?” the telepath asked.

Logan looked at Jean. “Is it necessary i give thanks? I don’t celebrate this.”

“But you’re still going to be at dinner,” Jean replied.

“You could always be thankful for having a wonderful best friend,” Morph said, brushing past Logan and lightly touching his shoulder.

Logan let out a small laugh. “Yeah, I guess I could say that.”

Logan and Morph left the kitchen just as Gambit walked in and started arguing with Jean on how to prepare dinner

“Don’t feel bad about celebrating something from here” Morph said, putting a hand on Logan’s shoulder. “Maybe one day we can celebrate a Canadian holiday, like… whatever you guys have.”

“Thanksgiving is celebrated in Canada too” Logan replied.

“What? Seriously?” Morph said, confused. “Then why don’t you like celebrating it?”

“I just don’t think I have anything to be thankful for, that’s all.”

“There are plenty of things you could be thankful for. Like the fact that the Professor is here—though Scott’s probably going to say that,” Morph said as they walked down the hall.

Logan didn’t respond and just kept walking beside them.

“Oh, I see what’s going on…” Morph shapeshifted into Jean. “I’m the beautiful Jean Grey, and I like men without sideburns.”

“Jean’s happy, and I’m happy for her. Stop teasing me about it.”

Morph watched Logan walk away. Just because he’d moved on from Jean didn’t mean he felt the same way about them. Sometimes, Morph couldn’t help but feel bad about not being reciprocated. Of course, they didn’t blame Logan—they understood why he didn’t feel the same. They supposed his “type” was women like Jean, and they were completely different.

“There are plenty of fish in the sea. I’m sure there’s someone out there who’d be perfect for you,” they said, catching up to Logan.

It was something Morph thought about often. Maybe Logan didn’t love them, but surely someone out there would. Though, being a mutant and with their physical appearance, the options weren’t exactly plentiful.

“I’ve got a lot of issues with my past. I don’t think anyone should have to deal with that,” Logan said, stopping by a window to look at the garden outside.

Oh.

“I have a lot of issues because of my past. Do you think… no one would want to be with me because of that?” Morph’s tone was a little sad.

They hadn’t thought about it before. Morph didn’t like thinking about everything that had happened with Sinister, but they supposed all their trauma from dying and being controlled might be too much for someone else to handle. Well, there went another reason for why Morph was single.

“No, no, that’s not what I meant. With you, it’s different,” Logan said.

“How?” Morph leaned against the wall and rested their hand on the windowsill.

“You’re stronger than I am,” Logan said as if it were obvious.

Morph burst out laughing. “Oh, come on, Logan. You don’t really mean that.”

“I mean it. You’ve been through so much, Morph, but you’re still standing. You’re always looking out for others, trying to cheer them up or lighten the mood with a joke,” Logan said with a firm but gentle voice.

“I’m the funny one” Morph said, shrugging. They weren’t sure how to feel about Logan’s words.

“Don’t think I haven’t noticed you trying to cheer others up even when you’re sad,” Logan said, taking Morph’s hand from the windowsill and giving it a gentle squeeze. “You’re a very strong, Morph.”

Sometimes, these small moments meant everything to Morph—Logan seeing them, maybe even feeling the same way. It made their heart race.

But before Morph could think of what to say, Logan let go of their hand and stepped away.

“I’m heading to the Danger Room. See you later, bub” Logan said as he walked off.

“Yeah, see you later” Morph replied, touching the hand Logan had held.

Maybe, Morph thought.

Later, everyone was at the table, but there was an empty seat next to Morph.

“Can we eat now? Gambit’s hungry” Remy said.

“Wolverine isn’t here yet” Jubilee pointed out.

“Morph, can you go find Logan and tell him if he doesn’t come soon, he won’t get dinner?” Scott asked, earning a playful jab in the arm from Jean for his comment.

“Here comes Morph to the rescue” the shapeshifter said as they stood up and headed for the door.

Logan was sitting on the roof of the school. The sky was dark, the stars visible, and in the distance, the lights of other buildings could be seen. He took a deep breath of fresh air and smelled Morph approaching.

“There’s my favorite lone wolf” Morph said as they walked up to him. “Wow, the night is beautiful.”

Logan turned his head slightly to see Morph standing next to him, their gaze fixed on the night sky.

“Shouldn’t you be eating?” Logan asked.

“I should, but Cyclops sent his favorite X-Men to fetch you” Morph replied, sitting next to Logan and leaning against him, still looking at the stars.

They stayed in silence for a moment, gazing at the sky. But when Morph turned their head, Logan did the same, and suddenly they were face to face, very close.

“I get why you might not like this holiday. After my mom died, Thanksgiving wasn’t the same. My dad wasn’t much of a party person after that” Morph said “If you don’t want to come down is fine, I can stay here with you”

In that moment, Morph realized just how close they were and pulled back a little, feeling nervous.

“Or I could leave if you want to be alone.”

Logan thought about the night Morph had died, the time he thought they were gone, and all the time they hadn’t been by his side. No, he didn’t want Morph to leave.

“I’m thankful that you’re here” Logan said, taking Morph’s hand “with me.”

Even in the dark, Logan could see Morph’s cheeks flush as they let out a soft laugh.

“I’m thankful you’re here too” Morph said, giving Logan’s hand a gentle squeeze.

Wolverine leaned in slowly, holding their hand firmly.

“Logan…” Morph whispered, closing their eyes.

Their lips met softly—a simple touch that meant everything and more to both of them.

They pulled back slightly, and Morph let out a giggle.

“What?” Logan whispered, smiling.

“I’m just happy. Besides, your beard tickles.”

“I can shave.”

“No, you don’t have to. It’d be weird to see you without it,” Morph said, gently running their hand along Logan’s cheek.

“Let’s head back inside. I’m hungry,” Logan said, standing up.

Morph smiled and stood up too. “I’m right behind you.”
