Chapter 6
"She was there!?"
"Yes," She mumbles.
"The doctor said that!?"
"Yes."
"Well, shit. That's super embarrassing, I'm sorry Megumi."
She suffocates herself in a pillow. If she can't breathe, she won't notice her furious blush.
Megumi can't confide in her sister; her friends from school would understand the magnitude, so she confides in the people she can trust with her embarrassing secret.
Higashibōjō Asuma is a dear friend but an idiot. He lacks the emotional depth needed for this delicate quandary. Gojo Shigeo will run back to Tsumiki and tattle, so she turns to the Maeda twins, her Maeda twins.
"Well, I mean," Futaba hedges, "A crush on Gojo-dono is a rite of passage; you just upped the ante."
Megumi groans.
A crush? Is there something her body knows that she doesn't? Megumi's instincts and thoughts are incongruent. She admires Satoru-san and holds her in the highest esteem, but she also thinks she's a frivolous idiot.
"Satoru-sama is the ideal alpha," Futaba continues.
Megumi supposes that statement has merit. Romance isn't an objective right now, but when she thinks about it for herself, she has an ideal type; that's probably why she has such a visceral reaction to the confessions of unwanted admirers.
They cannot compare to Satoru-san. The alpha has raised her standards and shown what traits are ideal.
"Tall, graceful, gorgeous, smart, considerate, really pretty, business savvy, a strong but compassionate leader, powerful, beautiful," Ninako lists, "and did I say really fucking hot?"
"You did," Futaba says, amused, "Four times."
"Well, to ward off evil, here's a fifth. Gojo Satoru is spank material!"
Megumi wants to die, she mumbles her muffled complaint.
Somehow, they understand.
"I don't blame you, I'd never be able to face Gojo-dono again," Ninako says unhelpfully.
"Non-chan!"
"What!? Did I lie!?"
"Megu-cgan," Futaba says firmly but kindly. "A crush is a lack of information. You'll get over it. You're an early bloomer, so what? Will that stop you?"
A crush is a lack of information? That's not true; Megumi knows Satoru-san; she's known her for eight years. Certainly, there are things she doesn't know about her, but there's so much she does. Like how she never liked sweets, she just became addicted to them after trying to find various ways to stimulate her brain. Like how she's not a morning person and struggles to get up without RCT. Like how she prefers pastels, but adopted a darker wardrobe to integrate her clan colors but also for practicality since she's always on the road of life.
Satoru-san was never a parent, a sibling, an aunt, or an uncle. She's Satoru-san, she's so much more.
Megumi just wants to be a person at her side, she wants to ease the burden she carries.
She wants to be anywhere she is.
What does that mean?
"Yeah," she finally answers after a short delay.
"Uh oh, that took a while to answer."
"Shut up, Non-chan!"
