Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Its been a few years since that incident and my family has since moved away from that town. We moved to a city that in my opinion has more tolerable people who are better in every aspect. The towns motto is basically this “as long as you stay in your business ill stay in mine”. And this place is the wonderful city of Gillette.
I'm now nineteen and I have a job, sure it won't be paying any bills with the pay I get but I still live with my parents so its ok for now as I genuinely enjoy what I do.
“Ok so that the breakfast sandwich, eggs over easy with bacon, butter and mayo on a bagel correct?” I ask the lady who just ordered from us. You see, I work the front counter of a kitchen for my towns bowling alley. “Yep that'll be all and might I say your fur is looking marvelously shiny today Riley. Oh and can you have that order be to go? I've got to get the kids to soccer here soon.”
“Yep and thanks Carol I'll make sure your order gets out fast ok. See you next week!” like I said the people are better here and I've kinda become something of a local celebrity. Not for anything epic or something similar its mainly because I stand out so much in a crowd that everyone knows who I am. At least its in a good way and I'm not one of the town delinquents.
“Theres my fluffy girl! How are things going this morning?” Nicki my manager questions as she comes behind the counter to give me a hug. I hug her back being careful to mind my strength.
“Its been good. I mean its been a bit slow but it is a Saturday morning and there are no leagues today so its to be expected. And the best part is Kathryn hasn't shown up to order something then bitch at us for one thing or another so that is a major plus. She laughs with a nod before patting me on the back as she turns to talk to one of our line cooks Jessie about some drama that I couldn't be bothered with.
And apparently I never learn my lesson because call her name and she shall appear as Kathryn herself walks through the front doors. “Oh fuck.” Me and Nicki mumble at the same time as she saunters her way towards us. She gets to the counter and gives me a sneer before turning to Nicki.
“I see you still have the damn freak working here. Honestly it should be put down like the dog it is.” She bites and I fight the urge to growl at her for that comment. Nicki though has no such filter. “Kathryn I have no patience for your bullshit today so order some food and go bowl or get the hell out.” She states coming to my defense. Kathryn rolls her eyes and I take her order so she can leave.
“God that woman is such a twat. Don't let her words get to you Riley, she's nothing but a stupid Californian snob.”
“Hey don't say that, its an insult to the Californians.” I laugh and she pats my back with a chuckle. “Alright kiddo, clock out and i'll take over ok. Go spend some time with your family or whatever it is you do when your shift is over.” She says scratching my mane. “Alright thanks Nicki, I'll see you guys tomorrow.” I say as I clock out.
“Oh wait, can I get my nuggies please?” I ask and Jessie smiles as she hands me my to go box consisting of boneless chicken wings smothered in BBQ sauce. “Alright you guys are the best, see ya!” And then I'm out the doors. I hop into my old 99 Ford ranger and drive towards home eager to eat my nuggies.
But maybe if I had paid a bit more attention to what was going on around me I would have noticed the black jeep trailing me. I continued to drive along for a few minutes when disaster struck. The black jeep that had been trailing behind me was now beside me slamming into my old Ford.
“Mother fucker!” I shout as they continue slamming into me until I rolled into a ditch. I rolled three times before coming to a stop. I craw out of the truck my mew cuts healing as fast as they appeared. The black jeep pulls up along side the road and I March towards it seething with rage.
A buff, beautiful woman with raven hair and cold eyes stepped out of the vehicle. “Listen here bitch I hope you have insurance because that fucking truck is my baby and you are going to fix her!” I snarl as I get within a few feet of her my hackles raised and my teeth bared. She doesn't say anything, only raises a gun to my head.
My snarl turns into an unamused expression. “Really you think a bullet will kill me?” I deadpan but she just smirks cruelly at me. “Oh hun, I don't have a bullet in this chamber just a tranquilizer strong enough to put three elephants to sleep with one drop. Should be enough to keep you out for a few hours though.” She states and before I can react she pulls the trigger and everything goes black.
